Chapter 19: Pinch the Mama
After Yu Xin finished spilling Wang Chao’s dark history, the car already zoomed into the entertainment district.
Yu Xin casually parked in a spot, while Ye Lan curiously asked beside her, seemingly eager to know what happened next.
“What happened next? How did things turn out between you two?”
“After that incident, Wang Chao stopped coming to see me. When I tried to find out where he was, I discovered he went off to a faraway city to become the Sunlight Night Watcher after recovering.”
“Oh wow… that was quite an unexpected outcome.”
Ye Lan pondered for a moment, imagining herself in Wang Chao’s shoes.
Defeated by a girl who let him off easy and then having her fall for him?
Ye Lan was at a loss too.
But she wasn’t Wang Chao and had no idea what he was thinking.
Who knew if Wang Chao was making up excuses to dodge Yu Xin?
Yet, regardless of the situation, it was definitely not cool to make a girl who had summoned the courage to confess feel so humiliated—he definitely deserved a solid thrashing for that.
In this case, dodging Yu Xin seemed pretty understandable.
Just as Ye Lan was deep in thought, Yu Xin interrupted.
“However… I feel like I should convey my feelings to him. Even though he left the capital, he wrote me an apology letter shortly after, and even now, way across the distance, he still sends me things. Knowing that guy, he probably wants to get stronger before coming back to challenge me again.”
“Ah, I see! So that’s what he’s thinking!?”
Ye Lan quickly got it.
Wang Chao probably thought he wasn’t strong enough for Yu Xin, plus he felt a bit embarrassed after being beaten up, so he took off to train in a more distant city.
Then, Ye Lan recalled what Wang Chao had been up to in Yun Chang City and realized that aside from doing missions, he was mostly lounging around—no signs of training whatsoever.
What was up with that?
Oh well.
It wasn’t her business; let the lovebirds deal with their own drama.
Ye Lan was happy to just munch on some popcorn and not get involved.
Back to reality.
Yu Xin had parked the car.
Ye Lan got out and looked around, noticing the crowd.
No wonder it’s the capital’s entertainment district—it’s bustling for sure.
But looking at it, it didn’t feel too cramped. There were tons of people, but the density was just right; even standing in the middle of it all didn’t feel claustrophobic.
Must be some management rules in this entertainment area.
Like, crowd control and stuff.
In this age, managing such situations was a piece of cake. No need to worry about losing the fun because of too many people around.
Especially in the capital.
The citizens here were plenty, and the control was stricter—entertainment spots needed the most management.
The reason Ye Lan could enjoy the perfect crowd here was thanks to the authorities keeping things in check.
At this point, Yu Xin asked, “Any place you wanna go next? The capital’s entertainment district is huge, it’s tricky to find something interesting without a plan.”
“Um… I don’t know, how about you recommend something?”
“Want me to recommend? How about grabbing a bite to eat?”
“Um… okay!”
Ye Lan agreed.
Even though she had just been to the cafeteria with Ye Yu, Night Star hadn’t eaten yet.
The other body was still hungry, which was quite uncomfortable.
If you want to feast, you may as well feast together.
With that in mind, Ye Lan followed Yu Xin to the food zone, which wasn’t far away.
After a bit, they arrived at a high-end restaurant that looked so posh it could probably make you bankrupt with one meal.
“Wow… this place seems really classy, is it really okay to eat here?”
“No problem! It’s expensive, but I have discounts, and there’s also a Night Watcher working here as a part-time chef, no need to worry.”
Ye Lan quickly understood.
Now that’s what you call perks!
Night Watchers had fantastic benefits regarding food and shelter, saving a lot of cash.
Ye Lan still had quite a bit of money in her pocket. A small portion was pocket money from White Fish’s sister—White Paint—plus her Night Watcher salary and the hefty profits from being the “Starry Sky Songstress.”
Now, Night Star Lan could be considered a little rich woman!
But even if she had the money, she wasn’t one to splurge. She’d save whenever possible and definitely wouldn’t waste extra cash.
Getting freebies through hard work? Now that was a joy!
Sitting back and doing nothing? No fun in that.
Then, Yu Xin started ordering while Ye Lan casually selected a bunch of tasty dishes.
Even though she had eaten earlier, there was still room in her stomach for delicious food. Enjoying some good chow was totally fine.
After finishing a satisfying meal, Ye Lan slyly packed some food and headed to a secluded corner, using the Theater Door to send the packed goodies to Night Star.
After doing that, she returned like nothing happened.
Yu Xin noticed her little antics but didn’t pry.
Wang Chao had previously mentioned that Ye Lan had some unspoken secrets, but she was definitely trustworthy and not to worry about her odd behavior.
Plus, the Leader had also reminded her, so she didn’t push further.
Meanwhile, Ye Lan was completely oblivious, happily congratulating herself on how seamless her sneaky operation was.
Little did she know, every move she made was right under Yu Xin’s watchful eye.
“Ahh, I’m stuffed! Let’s go to the next spot~”
“Yep!”
Meanwhile…
Inside the theater.
Night Star was enjoying the food Ye Lan had sent over, making it taste oh-so-good.
“Coo, coo, coo~”
A pigeon flew in, landing next to Night Star.
Night Star skillfully pulled out a box of fries.
“Hey, here are Guqiu’s fries for today; I didn’t forget!”
When ordering, Ye Lan had snagged a box of fries just for that particular pigeon.
“Coo! Not bad!”
Guqiu happily munched on the fries Night Star brought back, which made Eypar next to her look absolutely forlorn.
“Night Star, what about mine?”
“You don’t eat things anyway, so what’s yours?” Night Star replied, a bit speechless.
“But that pigeon is so cocky! Didn’t you see? While eating fries, it kept glancing at me like it was showing off!”
“Hmm?”
Night Star turned and stared at Guqiu, who was focused on the fries, having no such antics whatsoever.
“Maybe it’s your imagination running wild?”
Eypar’s hair constantly bobbed up and down as she fixed her gaze on Guqiu, as though seeing a gleam in its eyes.
“Coo, silly ghost.”
Guqiu muttered.
This sent Eypar’s bl**d pressure soaring.
“Pinch the mama! As a Ghost Girl, I swear on my dignity that within three days, I must turn you into soup for Night Star!”
“Coo, coo, coo~ This is killing me.”
Night Star looked at the scene between them, utterly perplexed.
Even though Eypar couldn’t touch Guqiu to escalate the argument further.
Still, those two squabbled easily.
What could possibly improve their relationship?
