Chapter 29: Day-Night Reversal Club
In a twist of perspective, Night Lan, Kong Yu Bai, and Book Yao appeared somewhere in the capital.
They had long left the Night Watcher Headquarters and were heading toward the entertainment district.
Kong Yu Bai looked around, a wave of nostalgia washing over her.
“Ah, it brings back memories! The last time I was in the capital feels like ages ago. I nearly forgot everything about this place!”
“Really?” Night Lan replied, raising an eyebrow.
Kong Yu Bai nodded, pointing in a certain direction. “I remember over there is the central stage of the capital! I once stood there facing thousands of fans in a real extravaganza. If it weren’t for Star interrupting, I probably would’ve had another concert here.”
Even though Kong Yu Bai had stepped back from the frontlines as a Songstress, her love for singing remained strong, and it’s totally normal for someone to miss the thrill of belting out tunes on a big stage.
Though she could still sing for audiences now, it just couldn’t match the grandeur of a full-blown concert.
Only the grand performances hosted by the theater group could come close to that kind of spectacle.
Night Lan smiled and suggested, “Well, if you miss it that much, why not do it again? You’ve just withdrawn from the front lines; you haven’t really retired! You’re still a Songstress, right? If you decide to go for it, I’m sure plenty of fans would support you. Just sing if you feel like it!”
Kong Yu Bai shook her head. “Nah, let’s not. If I held a concert as a Songstress again, I might not be able to hide my presence anymore. This life seems more suited for me—the feeling of being with you, Night Lan, is better than any concert!”
“Oh wow~”
Every now and then, Kong Yu Bai’s mushy words would send Night Lan’s heart fluttering, and by now, she was almost immune to it.
Still, deep down, she felt a little touched. Having friends like this truly was a blessing!
Then suddenly, Kong Yu Bai exclaimed, “Speaking of which, how about you try holding a concert, Night Lan? In this era, creating a virtual image is super easy! You can just provide your voice behind the scenes, and the virtual image can handle the fans on stage. I think it’s doable!”
“Hmm… that does sound feasible.”
Since she wouldn’t have to face a crowd in her real form, Night Lan felt there was nothing to be afraid of.
If she lacked confidence in her singing, she might have hesitated. But with the approval of two world-renowned Songstresses and her experience on an unparalleled stage, denying her own talent would just be outlandishly ridiculous.
So, Night Lan thought she could pull off a concert.
“So, is this what you want too, Kong Yu Bai?”
Night Lan’s bright blue eyes fixed on Kong Yu Bai as if confirming something.
Kong Yu Bai smiled slightly. “Well, as a Songstress, if a Songstress hasn’t held a proper concert, can we really call her successful? I think you have what it takes, and that’s enough for me. I want to be part of your concert, that’s it.”
“Uh-huh, I’ll do my best!”
Night Lan cherished her friends; she wouldn’t overlook their wishes. Plus, having learned singing from Kong Yu Bai and genuinely loving it, achieving this tiny dream was absolutely no problem.
This time, it wasn’t about a Wish Machine, but rather her own efforts.
“Don’t worry, Night Lan! By the time your concert comes around, I’ll have written a ton of amazing songs! You just sing your heart out for me then. I can’t wait to hear your enchanting voice live at the concert!”
“Okay-dokey!”
At that moment, Book Yao chimed in from the side.
“If it’s your concert, I’ll definitely be there.”
These days, Book Yao’s interests were mostly confined to reading. She seldom ventured anywhere outside the theater or library, so if she was going somewhere, it had to be extraordinarily important—like anything related to Night Lan.
“Uh-huh! Welcome to your supporting role, Book Yao!” Night Lan responded with a smile.
After a while, they finally arrived at the entertainment district.
Night Lan glanced at the entrance and suggested, “How about we meet at the entrance of the entertainment district tonight?”
“Sounds good!”
“Whatever works!”
Looks like Kong Yu Bai and Book Yao had no objections. As long as they could meet Night Lan in their dreams, any location would do!
“Well then, it’s settled! Do you remember the way? Want to explore a bit more?” Night Lan asked.
Book Yao shook her head. “Well, it doesn’t really matter as long as we know the routes on the capital’s map. As long as the building routes in our dreams haven’t changed, we can just use the map to reach our destination…”
Kong Yu Bai interrupted, “Stop! Book Yao, that stuff doesn’t matter. It’s rare for us to be out having fun with Night Lan. Can’t we just enjoy some shopping together?”
At that, Book Yao pondered for a moment and nodded gently. “That does sound nice.”
“Then it’s decided! Let’s have a blast this afternoon, Night Lan!”
“Yay!”
For the next few hours, Night Lan, Kong Yu Bai, and Book Yao roamed the entertainment district, playing countless exciting games and having loads of fun.
This happiness was something else, incomparable to before.
Although she had just hung out with Yu Xin recently, it didn’t even come close to the joy of being with Kong Yu Bai and Book Yao.
Because beside them, Night Lan felt she could truly be herself—no hiding, no nervousness. Just pure, unrestrained fun. This was the real state of enjoyment.
That was the feeling of having close friends around.
…
As time ticked by and dusk settled in, it seemed like nightfall was approaching.
This signaled the end of their day of fun.
The three of them walked down a street in the entertainment district, preparing to find a blind spot and open the Theater Door to return to the Rising Sun Theater.
They had even grabbed dinner already.
No need to linger here.
Just then, Night Lan noticed the name of a shop nearby.
“Huh? Day-Night Reversal Club? What’s that?”
The Day-Night Reversal Club had its doors closed tight, looking like it hadn’t opened all day, standing out as unusually quiet compared to the other storefronts.
While Night Lan was pondering, the door of the club suddenly swung open, revealing a staff member looking like they had just woken up.
“Ah~ A new day is starting~”
The staff member suddenly noticed the three girls standing at the club’s entrance. “Hey, ladies! Are you here to join the club’s party? Showing up this early? At this hour, I’d expect the other members to still be snoozing!”
“Ah, um, no, no! You’ve got it all wrong; we’re just passing by!” Night Lan quickly denied, preventing any misunderstandings from continuing.
The staff member blinked in surprise and apologized. “Sorry, I made a mistake! But would you be interested in learning about the Day-Night Reversal Club? You might find it interesting!”
