Chapter 389: The End
Noticing that Xia Yu seemed genuinely ticked off, Xia Ling dared not let Jiang Hanhan bully her anymore. She immediately wrapped her arm around Xia Yu’s arm affectionately, saying, “Okay, okay, Sister knows she was wrong! Next time, I’ll definitely help you.”
Upon hearing Xia Ling say this, Xia Yu felt much better and couldn’t help but act a bit haughtily, “Well, that’s more like it. So… Do we still go eat barbecue?”
“Why wouldn’t we eat? Let’s go!”
Just as Xia Yu and Xia Ling were getting along better, Jiang Hanhan’s sour voice echoed in, “Pfft, were you already full of anger just now? Gain some weight and your sister might not want you.”
“You not wanting me is fine, but I do. Little Yu, let’s ignore her and go eat something tasty.”
At this point, Xia Ling decisively sided with Xia Yu. It wasn’t like she was going to tell Jiang Hanhan about her new girlfriend anyway. Hence, Xia Ling dragged Xia Yu out of the room, leaving Jiang Hanhan all alone and flustered…
“Grrr~”
Jiang Hanhan stomped her feet on the floor after realizing what was happening, not that it helped. Don’t let her usual laid-back demeanor fool you; she took her feelings for Xia Ling very seriously.
But there was nothing to be done; Xia Ling was just as naive in emotional intelligence as Xia Yu. They were twins after all. As they stepped out of the hotel, Xia Yu could smell the delicious aroma of barbecue in the air. Being a sleepyhead, she admitted she was pretty hungry.
Seeing Xia Yu’s lack of dignity, Xia Ling decided not to drag her any further, “Go ahead and eat first. I’ll go back and look for Hanhan.”
“Sure thing. Don’t worry about me. I’m not that kid you remember anymore.”
Xia Yu knew Xia Ling still cared for Jiang Hanhan, so she headed back to camp to continue her feast.
Even though only an hour remained, Xia Yu didn’t mind. Now that most of the students were full, there was no congestion at the barbecue station, unlike when they first started. Sizzle sizzle~
Before long, Xia Yu had roasted enough meat skewers and set them on a plate, ready to find a quiet spot to enjoy them.
She was too shy to join the boys and too proud to join the girls, so she usually hid where both sides met. No one was there either.
However, before reaching the resting spot, a familiar voice called her, “Little Yu, come over and play poker. We’re missing one player.” Looking up, sure enough, it was Huang Qiao, Big Class Leader, and Li Jia and Gao Yao. They were seated together, playing cards.
Xia Yu thought it best not to refuse their invites. After all, these were old friends.
Thus, carrying the skewer, Xia Yu made her way over and couldn’t resist being a little snarky, “Playing Landlord? You guys have enough players. Why do you need me?” “We play Landlord, switch one player if you lose. Otherwise, it’s just three of us; boring. So, Little Yu, join in.”
Without waiting for an answer, Huang Qiao pointed to a seat across from her, “Sit there, perfect.” Xia Yu: “…”
Following orders, Xia Yu sat down. Sitting alone in a corner eating wouldn’t be much fun anyway. So, Xia Yu joined the game.
As expected, Jiang Hanhan and Xia Ling didn’t show up for another round of barbecue. Xia Yu had no idea where they went, but losing them in a hotel should be impossible. But little did Xia Yu know, Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhan were already cozying up in a private room.
Time flew by quickly. Before Xia Yu got into a few rounds, Head Teacher He Gongxing came out and announced, “Alright, the barbecue session is over. Boys, bring everything back, and girls, clean the area.”
Finally over!
Since nobody had complaints about the long day, they all obeyed and did their tasks quietly. However, Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhan were still nowhere to be seen.
Fortunately, Huang Qiao was quite understanding, assigning the girls the jobs while ignoring those who escaped. But for Xia Yu, she pondered whether to follow the boys or help clean up.
Enter Gao Xiaotian and his four brothers, “Xia Yu, where do we put all this stuff? Let us help carry it.”
Looking at what they were carrying—gas cylinders, iron racks, pots—it was obvious these needed returning. Perfect timing, Xia Yu thought happily, but alas, Gao Xiaotian beat her to the pots.
“No need, Xia Yu. Just lead the way. Your brother and his gang will handle all the dirty work,” he declared.
Here, Xia Yu noticed they all had specific roles, each person paired for a reason. Clearly, they wanted to get out of the mess as fast as possible.
Sighing, Xia Yu reluctantly led the way, “Alright then, follow me.”
Surrounded by people doing chores, she felt like a leader herself. Yet, despite the momentary authority, she much preferred holding something tangible for peace of mind.
Back at the hotel, Xia Yu confidently led the group to the kitchen with their haul. Except for the iron rack, everything else was returned where it belonged.
Coincidentally, the chef had left for the day, but someone remembered Xia Yu’s visits, informing the on-duty staff to take care of her.
When they arrived at the kitchen, a prep cook hurriedly offered help, “No need to stay. Put these here, and head back. We’ll clean up.”
“Thank you. We appreciate it.”
After politely thanking them, Xia Yu led the others out of the kitchen. Following her, they felt relieved once they reached the elevators.
“Phew, finally done. What a tiring day.” Elsewhere, Jiang Kekai glanced at the clock and closed her laptop…
