**Chapter 31: You’ve Caught My Attention**
The moment Night Lan reopened her eyes, the fantastical colors of the dream world splashed before her.
Her consciousness had successfully slipped into the dream.
“Well, first things first, let’s find Book Yao and the others!”
Without a second thought, Night Lan sprang into action, charging straight towards the entertainment district of the dream capital.
If this dream capital was anything like the one in reality, then her decision was spot on.
Book Yao and the crew should be at the entrance to the entertainment district by now.
Night Lan just hoped that by the time she got there, at least one familiar face would be waiting for her.
And off she went—running like the wind, at speeds that could rival a caffeinated cheetah headed to the food court!
Despite her blistering pace making her quite the spectacle, in this wonderfully weird dreamland, the bizarre display of ordinary people’s true thoughts outshone her dash. Honestly, her antics barely registered on the scale of peculiar.
Night Lan wasn’t keen on exploiting the dream’s quirks to help her out. What if she suddenly got hit by the mysterious powers of a star eclipse? Yeah, no thanks.
Better safe than sorry.
Even if she did enjoy her last transformation into the Wish Princess during a dream.
Just then, Night Lan caught sight of something out of the corner of her eye and instinctively stopped.
“Ah, what’s that?”
She hadn’t reached her destination but instead spotted someone totally unexpected.
Not Kong Yu Bai, not Book Yao, not Mo Rabbit, and definitely not any Night Watcher—nope! It was the black-haired girl from her first encounter with the Dream Narrator!
This girl was strolling down the road all by herself, flute in hand, giving off a serene vibe.
Feeling a tad jittery, Night Lan found herself staring at her from a distance, not daring to make a sound.
Sure, the black-haired girl was cute, but Night Lan wasn’t about to be foolish and march right up to her.
Seriously, one must stay alert when faced with a suspicious star eclipse!
In that moment, the girl holding the flute suddenly sensed someone staring and turned to lock eyes with Night Lan.
And just like that, Night Lan had been spotted.
“Um…”
Night Lan tensed up, preparing to bolt.
But to her surprise, the flute girl merely glanced at her and returned her gaze elsewhere, evidently not too concerned.
Night Lan let out a quiet sigh of relief.
“Phew~ Not interested in me? What a relief! Thought I was about to be marked for something sinister.”
But just as she relaxed, a soft, squishy voice chimed in right next to her ear.
“You’ve been marked.”
“Eh?!”
Night Lan’s breath hitched, and she instinctively sprinted away to a safe distance.
After her heart stopped racing, she glanced back to see who had spoken.
There stood the black-haired girl with the flute, only now she had mysteriously appeared right next to her! A real ghosting act! How spooky!
“Y-You… who are you?” Night Lan stammered, her mind already plotting a hasty escape.
The flute girl replied softly, “I’m a dream spirit created from the dream, wielding the power of slumber. You can call me Dream Pursuer Yin.”
“Dream Pursuer Yin… is that a star eclipse name?”
Night Lan thought, suddenly intrigued.
“Are you one of those people who can see through dreams and reality?” the Dream Pursuer Yin suddenly asked.
“Uh… if you mean Star Holders, then yeah, I guess that’s me.”
“I see! You’re impressive. But even so, you can’t do much in a dream.”
“Uh… Can I leave now?”
“Be my guest.”
With that, Night Lan felt reassured that Dream Pursuer Yin really didn’t care about her.
Seems like her role was just to play a flute to make people sleep and shatter the dreams that construct the nighttime. Anything beyond that? Not her business.
Maybe this star eclipse was a creation of the Dream Narrator in the dream.
Night Lan instinctively took a few steps back.
She just wanted to push on to her destination and reunite with Kong Yu Bai and Book Yao.
As for the star eclipse situation? Let the Night Watchers worry about that.
Not her job description!
About to dash again, a voice suddenly halted her.
“Hold on a moment.”
It was a man’s voice.
Night Lan’s face froze, sensing a terrifying figure looming behind her.
No doubt about it.
The speaker was definitely the Dream Narrator weaving this dream world!
“Run, Nano-DA!”
With a flash, Night Lan vanished from the spot, using her speed to cover a great distance.
She had no guts to face off with a terrifying unknown star eclipse.
If she had some reliable companions, that might be different, but nope, she was flying solo!
Her life rule? When in doubt, sprint!
Just then, Night Lan spotted a tall, skinny figure up ahead on her path—it was the Dream Narrator she’d seen before!
He maintained a calm, gentle expression, staring directly at her.
“Why are you running?”
Seeing this, Night Lan immediately chucked a U-turn, refusing to stop.
But to her shock, every time she turned, another Dream Narrator seemed to pop up, as if they were clones doing a synchronized dance!
Night Lan was forced to halt, going into a defensive crouch and hugging her head.
“Wahhh, leave me alone!”
One of the Dream Narrators stepped closer.
“Am I that terrifying?”
“Um, pretty much!”
“How so? I haven’t harmed you.”
“Uh… I’m just shy!”
“Oh, I see.”
With that, Night Lan stood up and backed away, eyeing this mysterious man with all the wariness of a cat near a bathtub.
“I warn you, if you come any closer, I won’t be so polite anymore! I can be quite scary when I get mad, and who knows what might happen then!”
The Dream Narrator brushed off her words and asked, “Do you want to escape? Don’t you want to know the truth? Is this your reality?”
Night Lan squinted her eyes.
“Uh… can you please speak in plain language? I’m really not in the mood for riddles.”
She had ramped her courage up to the max, so standing still was the least she could do.
And even if she did try to run, this weird star eclipse would probably just stop her. So asking him what he wanted seemed like the best option.
If he really was up to something, she could always whip out the all-powerful Wish Machine.
Even this star eclipse wouldn’t withstand the might of a Wish Machine.
Thinking this made Night Lan’s confidence return.
Now the Dream Narrator decided to get straight to the point.
“I want a glimpse of your true self; you seem special, yet I can’t see through your uniqueness, so… you’ve caught my attention.”
What is this, a line from some over-the-top CEO romance?
Upon hearing this, Night Lan fell silent, her mind racing with realization.
It seemed her possessing an Extraordinary Star was not just a big deal to the Night Watchers—it even piqued the interest of a star eclipse.
This kind of uniqueness couldn’t be seen with the eyes; it was more of a gut feeling.
So, the current situation was:
Staring down a strange star eclipse.
Great.
