Chapter 36: Silence
The scene shifts.
Night Lan is already in the Leader’s office.
Ji Yun naturally steps out of the office, leaving the space for the two.
She has observed it all.
Night Lan might not just be some well-connected individual; she carries some massive secrets that seem tied to this star eclipse incident.
Otherwise, the Leader wouldn’t be calling her so frequently.
While Ji Yun has noticed this, she won’t ask any questions.
She only needs to do her job well.
Ji Yun exits the office, gently closing the door behind her.
Only Night Lan and the Leader remain inside.
Night Lan asks cautiously, “Um…Leader, what brings you here?”
“Nothing major, I just wanted to ask about some details regarding the information.”
“Uh-huh?”
While Night Lan was puzzled, the Leader continued, “Since I’ve handed this info to you in a dream, there should be more detailed explanations. Let’s skip the theory about daytime dreams and get straight to the weaknesses of the Dream Narrator. That information was supposedly discovered by our Night Watchers after interacting with the star eclipses, right? Do you remember what we discussed in the dream? If there’s anything else to add, please speak up.”
“Ah…this…”
Night Lan hesitated, unsure of how to respond.
It seemed the Leader mistook the two pieces of information as something discovered by the Night Watchers.
“Um, Leader, actually… the idea about the daytime dreams and the weakness of the Dream Narrator, these were found by me.”
“What?”
The Leader’s brain short-circuited, struggling to comprehend.
“Wait, say that again, I didn’t hear you clearly.”
“Um… the idea about daytime dreams came to me when I saw the phrase ‘day turns to night’ while shopping. As for the Dream Narrator’s weakness being told to me directly, it’s true!”
“…”
Silence, like the bridge of silence, tonight.
The Leader originally thought those crucial bits were hard-earned by the Night Watchers, admiring their efficiency, but then found out that they were obtained by a little loli in front?
This was a big embarrassment!
“Cough, cough.”
The Leader coughed deliberately, quickly recovering from the somewhat humiliating state.
As a leader, it’s necessary to have a thick skin too, to be truly competent.
“In any case, thank you Night Lan for your contribution. Your efforts deserve great rewards, thanks for the hard work.”
“It’s nothing, really, I just want to go home early.”
Night Lan scratched her head in embarrassment, still feeling a bit awkward.
Then the Leader remembered what Night Lan mentioned earlier.
“Hold on, you said the Dream Narrator told you his own weakness in person?”
“Yes.”
The Leader’s expression froze, quickly turning serious.
“What did he do to you? Did he harm you in any way? This is important, tell me everything that happened in detail.”
“Mm… I understand.”
Immediate, Night Lan obediently recounted how she met the Dream Narrator.
Like diving into deeper dreams and having the protection of the Wish Machine, which prevented the Dream Narrator from doing anything nasty.
And at last, the Dream Narrator revealed his own weakness because of one sentence from Night Lan.
That’s basically the situation.
Of course, Night Lan didn’t mention anything about Kong Yu Bai or Book Yao to the Leader, better keep it confidential.
As for stuff like the Wish Machine, probably no need for secret keeping anyway as the Leader already knew.
Listening intently, the Leader pondered.
“So that’s the way it is? What does the Dream Narrator want? Why would he reveal his own weakness?”
“Well, he probably thinks I’ll forget everything after leaving the dream, so that makes his weakness quite plausible.”
“No, even though my gut tells me it’s very likely true, his decision to tell you his weakness is definitely not so straightforward. Maybe, he already found out that you don’t forget things after leaving the dreams, but has another motive.”
“Ah? Is that so?” Night Lan was stunned, never expecting this.
The Leader nodded slightly, then looked seriously at Night Lan.
“Night Lan, did you spend a long time acting alone in the dreams?”
“Uh? Yeah.”
“Stay in the headquarters for now, don’t wander around in case the Dream Narrator targets you. It’s for your safety.”
Although the Leader has no confidence against the Dream Narrator in the dream, at least keeping Night Lan safe gives him some psychological comfort.
Night Lan, however, didn’t think quite the same.
Just because the Leader said stay in the headquarters, does that mean she’ll obey?
She’d rather hang out with Kong Yu Bai and Book Yao outside.
The Leader wouldn’t blame her, and forgetting everything after waking up means she can just lie about staying put in the dream.
Hmm, sometimes it’s good to be a naughty girl!
The Leader sensed something from her subtle expression, smiling helplessly.
“Forget it, just be careful, okay? Our Sunlight Night Watchers will attempt to verify the theory of daytime dreams today. You should join us.”
“Eh? Wait, do I have to sleep during the day?”
The Leader shrugged.
“We have no choice, who’s going to retain memories of the dreams if not you?”
“Ah…”
Night Lan hesitated, tempted to spill the beans on Mo Rabbit for causing trouble, but holding back for fear of leaking the troupe’s secrets.
Ultimately, she decides to shoulder the burden herself.
Ugh!
Now, she’s even more committed to helping Mo Rabbit fully develop quickly.
A fully-developed Mo Rabbit is super cute, after all!
Face down, Night Lan looked unenthusiastic.
“Fine…”
Seeing her pout, the Leader felt like he had committed a crime.
“Night Lan, think of it as employment, I’m not asking you to follow some obligation. Want something? I can offer it as compensation.”
“Really?”
Night Lan suddenly got energized.
Now, she has reason to push through.
No one likes unpaid overtime.
Seeing her perk up, the Leader believed he made the right call.
Though Night Lan might be a Night Watcher currently, her future isn’t necessarily bound by them.
She has an undercover identity too.
Heaven forbid, if he treated her like a worker oppressed by capitalists, she might rebel immediately.
The Leader didn’t want to create another Supernova Star Eclipse level problem.
“Of course, what do you want?”
“I want to become a Sunlight Night Watcher, then get an awesome car! And finally retire!”
With sparkling eyes full of determination, it was clear she meant it.
And this left the Leader utterly speechless.
