Chapter 55: Performance Canceled
After a brief bout of gloominess, Night Star Lan quickly perked up.
“Well, I guess I’ll just hang around here for the night. When the sun rises, that Dream Pursuer Yin will probably come out and blow the Dream Awakening Flute.”
She was puzzled as to why she was the only one who had entered, but as long as she could get out by morning, that was the main thing.
Without further ado, Night Star Lan began to wander through the dream.
She tried to find the Dream Narrator’s figure, mustering up the courage to ask what on earth was going on.
But no matter where she went, she still couldn’t find the Dream Narrator.
Logically, that guy should have popped up after she became alone, right?
Could it be that ending up in this situation was all part of his plan?
How dastardly! That Dream Narrator is up to no good!
Yet when she thought about it, that guy hadn’t shown his face.
This uncertainty made her a bit uneasy.
At this point, waiting it out seemed like the only option.
Best-case scenario, she could just treat this like a normal nap, as long as no weird stuff happened.
…
As time passed, the sky grew gradually brighter.
The sun was up.
In the capital, most of the Night Watchers at headquarters had stayed up all night, and nothing unusual had been detected.
Some Night Watchers were still trying to sleep and enter dreams but had been unsuccessful.
So it seemed that the Dream Narrator was really not interfering with anyone’s dreams.
The reason behind this remained a mystery.
But this unknown weighed heavily on the hearts of the Night Watchers, a bit like a giant rock.
The Leader stepped back into the office from the command room, sitting down in thought.
Countless possibilities sprung up in his mind, yet none could be confirmed.
He reviewed all the information they had pulled from previous dreams, but he still couldn’t discern the current situation.
Suddenly, he thought of Night Lan.
Could that girl also be unable to enter a dream?
Meanwhile, at the Rising Sun Theater.
Almost all the theater members had emerged, preparing for their off-site performance, but the Audience Performer was nowhere to be found.
“Where’s the Audience Performer?” the Group Leader inquired.
Everyone shook their heads, bewildered.
Lianhua speculated, “She’s not still in bed, is she?”
Kong Yu Bai quickly denied it.
“That’s unlikely; while the Audience Performer usually seems laid-back, she takes the theater’s activities very seriously. There’s absolutely no way she’d forget about this.”
At that remark, the theater members nodded, seemingly well aware of what the Audience Performer was like.
Since she wasn’t there, did something unexpected happen?
With that thought, Lianhua and the others began to worry.
Just then, the Announcer appeared, looking a bit serious.
“That guy really did make a move on the Audience Performer.”
The Group Leader narrowed his eyes slightly.
“What’s going on, Announcer?”
“It’s obvious—the Audience Performer’s consciousness is trapped in a dream by the Dream Narrator and can’t wake up; that’s her current state,” the Announcer whispered, revealing shocking news.
Upon hearing this, the Group Leader began striding towards the theater door.
“I’ll go bring her back for now.”
As soon as he spoken, the theater door instantly connected to the place the Audience Performer had opened last time.
The Group Leader stepped out resolutely.
The next second, he found himself in an unfamiliar break room.
He scanned the area and quickly locked onto two petite figures sprawled on the bed.
“Audience Performer.”
The Group Leader tiptoed over and scooped up the two sleeping girls, carrying them back to the theater.
As soon as he left with the two girls, the theater door connected to headquarters snapped shut.
At the same time, a sudden ringing pierced the quiet of the break room.
Night Lan’s communication device was sitting there, the screen lighting up with a message from Ji Yun.
On the other side.
In the Leader’s office, Ji Yun, while trying to contact Night Lan, fell silent.
Minutes ticked by.
Night Lan hadn’t replied to her message.
The Leader regarded this scene, squinting his eyes.
“She hasn’t responded?”
“Nope.”
Suddenly, an ominous premonition washed over the Leader.
“Go directly there; don’t wait for a reply.”
“Understood.”
The moment the words were out, Ji Yun vanished in a blink.
Seconds later, Ji Yun reappeared in the office, holding Night Lan’s communication device.
“Leader, it seems Night Lan has gone missing.”
“What?”
The Leader’s expression blanched, utterly stunned by this turn of events.
He quickly sprang into action, contacting the surveillance team to investigate the road cameras around Night Lan’s residence.
Meanwhile, he instructed Ji Yun to take him to Night Lan’s break room.
In a split second, the Leader had arrived at Night Lan’s break room.
Unfortunately, it was empty.
The Leader paced around, finding nothing unusual.
Just then, the surveillance team sent a message saying that the black-haired girl hadn’t come out since entering last night.
So Night Lan had vanished within the break room.
The Leader closed his eyes, concentrating to perceive more keenly.
Ji Yun remained silent beside him, not wanting to disturb the Leader.
After a moment, he opened his eyes, whispering to himself.
“Star Eclipses energy?”
Hearing those words, Ji Yun’s expression froze.
“How is that possible? How could Star Eclipses energy randomly appear at headquarters?”
The Leader didn’t explain but thought of something.
“Let’s head back; don’t let this leak out.”
“Sure.”
The Leader’s mind started racing.
Moving forward, they would need to see if the Rising Sun Theater had performed in Qi Yuan City.
…
In the Rising Sun Theater.
A gaggle of theater members huddled around the two slumbering Lolis that the Group Leader had brought back.
At that moment, they lay on the bed without a hint of waking up.
Lianhua leaned over the edge of the bed, her expression a bit troubled.
“Both Audience Performers are still asleep…”
Kong Yu Bai furrowed her brow.
“By all accounts, the noise just now should have woken them up, but why are they still fast asleep?”
Just then, Mo Rabbit, who was also leaning over the bed, poking at Night Star’s cheeks, chimed in, “Clearly, the Dream Awakening Flute hasn’t sounded in the dream, so the Audience Performer can’t wake up. She’s probably wracking her brain inside there, and we can’t just forcefully wake her up; the consequences would be dire.”
“What do we do then?”
“What else? We wait; I have no other options right now.”
At her words, the Makeup Artist tilted her head, seemingly wanting to remind everyone.
“But… you guys mentioned that there’s supposed to be a performance today, right?”
Mo Rabbit chuckled lightly.
“I’m indifferent; it just depends on how you all want to decide.”
At that moment, the Group Leader decisively stated, “We’ll wait for the Audience Performer to wake up. If she doesn’t participate, this performance would be utterly meaningless.”
The Gentleman and the Fraudster nodded in agreement.
As for the remaining few, there was no need to say more.
For the Audience Performer, even a typical off-site performance activity could easily be abandoned by the Rising Sun Theater.
That’s how crucial she was.
In the dream.
Night Star Lan, looking adorably foolish, stared at the lightening sky, couldn’t help but pout and shout.
“Why isn’t the Dream Awakening happening, iron meow?!”
