Chapter 56: The Origin of Stars and Star Eclipses

“Son of a g*n!!!!!”

Night Star and Night Lan stood on the highest floor, shouting out their frustrations as if it was their personal scream room, finally letting out the pent-up emotions that were bugging them.

But this only lasted for a moment. They knew they ultimately needed to step out eventually.

After Night Lan got it all out, she took a deep breath, her face filled with melancholia.

“d*mn… I was eagerly waiting for the sound of the dream awaking whistle but by the time dawn came, there was no sign of it at all. Are you mocking me? You rotten Dream Narrator!”

After voicing her complaints, she started mumbling again.

“I remember the dream awaking whistle was supposed to be blown by the cute ‘Dream Pursuer Yin’. That kid seemed harmless. Why didn’t they play the whistle? Could it be that Dream Pursuer Yin went rogue too? No way, this is surely the doing of the Dream Narrator. What’s that bloke up to…?”

She pondered left and right, but still couldn’t figure out the Dream Narrator’s intention.

Who knows what that guy wants?

Just as Night Lan was deeply in thought and feeling utterly miserable, a voice echoed around her.

“So what happens in a dream that belongs to just one person? Lovely little lady.”

“Eyaa!”

Night Lan jumped, startled by the sudden noise. Turning her head, she realized the Dream Narrator, complete with a smile, and the Dream Pursuer Yin by his side.

Forcing herself to calm down, she tried making sense of what he said, remembering it wasn’t unexpected.

“That’s it, you definitely did that on purpose.”

“d*mn, did you set a trap that only I’d fall for? Why would you lock me in a dream by myself? Get Dream Pursuer Yin to blow that dream awaking whistle now or I’m not holding back!”

No matter what, she decided to bluff him first. She may not have power to fight back, but she had guts!

The Dream Narrator just chuckled and patted Dream Pursuer Yin on the head.

“Don’t get upset, Miss. Can we please talk alone?”

“d*mn! Is leaving me stuck here all night your idea of an apology?!”

In this silent city, left alone, for an entire night. Who could handle such bizarre loneliness?

If she hadn’t toughened herself working in the theater, she might’ve gone insane already.

She figured the Dream Narrator must’ve planned this intentionally.

And so, he sincerely apologized.

“Sorry, I only wanted to see what you would do, alone in this dream place where anything is possible. But I never imagined watching you having a chat with yourself, all night. This really caught me off guard.”

“Huh…”

Listening to this, Night Lan realized he had been observing her the whole night. Imagine being watched role-playing with another version of herself—it was embarrassing!

“Whatever… Just let me out now!”

Ignoring her, the Dream Narrator changed topics.

“Talking here isn’t ideal. Let’s move somewhere else.”

He clapped, the world shifted, and before Night Lan could react properly, she found herself in the Rising Sun Theater.

“This… How did you do that?!”

“I can read some of your thoughts, create customized dream scenarios from them, and if you feel safe somewhere, why not share it with me? Think of this like a comfy chat spot.”

“If you tell me everything, will you let me go?” she asked tentatively.

Dream Narrator nodded assuredly.

“Absolutely. After this chat, I won’t need to trap you here forever. And satisfying my curiosity means finishing our talk.”

“Satisfying? Does that mean you’re leaving this town soon?!” Night Lan’s eyes lit up with excitement.

Her freedom depended on it.

If he were to leave, maybe she could return to Yun Chang City!

Suddenly, she felt less resistant.

She sat down and said,

“Okay, let’s start. What do you want to discuss?”

The Dream Narrator and Dream Pursuer Yin sat three seats away.

“It’s about the dream you had last time, where Star Eclipses merged smoothly into society.”

“Annoying spy!” she grumbled, but was powerless against it.

He shook his head and said,

“I can’t help it. Observing reality within dreams is my obsession; seeking permission for that would defeat its purpose.”

“So you’re still the troublemaker.”

“True, and with my powers, seeking permission is unnecessary. Being called bad is fitting.”

When a person gains extraordinary power, why follow normal rules?

Star Eclipses’ actions were driven by obsessions too; once accomplished, who cared about others’ opinions?

Back to the original topic.

Dream Narrator turned to look at Night Lan.

“I do have some insights on your crazy idea; they may show you how hard reality is. Ready?”

Night Lan tilted her head, intrigued.

“Insights about Stars and Eclipses? Tell me!”

Dream Narrator continued, “About the origins of Stars and Star Eclipses?”

Night Lan’s eyes widened in shock.

To her, Stars appeared suddenly out of nowhere; no records existed about their origins.

Researchers with the Night Watchers seemed puzzled too. It was a mystery she thought unsolvable.

Now, to discover from the mysterious Dream Narrator?!

It excited her. Maybe even more than the Scholars of the Night Watchers knew!

“Spit it out quickly! I’m dying to know!”

Noticing her eagerness, Dream Narrator smiled charmingly,

“I knew you’d find it interesting. Then, shouldn’t you forgive me for trapping you in this dream? Secrets don’t come cheap; I told you only due to your special circumstances.”

Impatient, Night Lan said,

“Yes, yes. Stop beating around the bush!”
