Chapter 405

Chapter 417: Good Talk

While Lin Jie was busy gobbling down his food, he couldn’t help but notice the scene unfolding around him. You know, outstanding women like Jiang Kekai often do have a peculiar way of attracting attention from men—it’s almost like they’re waving a neon sign that says “Look at me!” It wouldn’t be too surprising if Lin Jie thought someone might take a plunge and go for it!

Of course, he was also aware of the dynamic between Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu. He figured nobody in the room would be more interested in the show than he was, unless they were looking for a d*ath wish.

And just as Lin Jie was pondering this, Uncle Li’s son stood up bravely. He shuffled over to Jiang Kekai, ignoring all social norms, and said, “Can we be friends? Maybe add each other on social media?”

Boom!

That bold move hit harder than a thunderclap, leaving everyone in the room dumbstruck. Who did this guy think he was? Did he not realize that Jiang Kekai was the hardest nut to crack in the entire venue?

Honestly, you shouldn’t blame this kid too much; he had no clue about Jiang Kekai’s status. After all, during the past year, she’s been busy transforming herself from a simple girl into, well, a cybersecurity goddess, putting in more hours at her IT job than most do in their entire lives. So it wasn’t a surprise that some less-informed folks forgot her real identity.

However, that didn’t mean Jiang Kekai was going to go easy on him.

She didn’t snap back right away but instead scrutinized him from head to toe with a frosty gaze. The poor guy squirmed under her intense stare and slowly turned less confident. “Uh, is that a no…?”

“Nope,” Jiang Kekai replied flatly, offering him a response colder than an Arctic breeze, giving no room for negotiation. The boy had come, but now he had to leave.

It wasn’t that Jiang Kekai wanted to be hard on people—her status gave her the right to dismiss Uncle Li’s family. But considering how Uncle Li might be her father-in-law one day, she figured she had to tread lightly. Plus, Xia Yu’s secret identity was still under wraps, and she wanted to keep Xia Hong in her good graces.

A change in attitude?

Jiang Kekai’s restraint left Lin Jie feeling a bit disappointed. I mean, come on, you’d expect Jiang Kekai to be a bit more dramatic! No wonder Dad always told him to take a page out of her book.

Seeing his son looking glum, Uncle Li chuckled and gave him a pat on the shoulder. “Hey, it takes courage to sh**t your shot! Keep it up!”

The four ladies at the table had only wanted to enjoy their meal, but Uncle Li’s antics had turned the atmosphere sour faster than spoiled milk. What kind of guests were they, anyway?

“I’m done eating,” Xia Yu declared first, tossing her chopsticks down. She zipped off to grab her clothes and head for the bathroom.

“I’m also done,” Jiang Kekai followed suit. Now that Xia Yu was showering, there was no way she’d waste the rare opportunity to bond with her. So off she went after Xia Yu.

Uncle Li’s family aside, everyone else felt it was just another day—just Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu sharing a shower, which we all know is nothing unusual.

The most colorful reaction came from Uncle Li’s son. He had thought Jiang Kekai, even if she were Xia Yu’s girlfriend, was still in a budding phase, and a peck on the lips was about as far as things would go. However, he was not prepared for the reality that they had apparently taken things to the next level! Suddenly, he was left without a plan. He wasn’t one to go after just anything.

“I’m stuffed, I’m stuffed~” Jiang Hanhang announced proudly, having polished off her favorite ribs. She dropped her chopsticks and headed to her room to grab clothes and knock on the bathroom door. “Sister, I wanna wash up with you guys!”

Everyone: “……”

“Scram~”

In the bathroom, Jiang Kekai was doing her best to help Xia Yu scrub her back and massage her, but she was seriously fed up with how shameless Jiang Hanhang could be.

And it was indeed true—if they could all wash together, that would be great. If not, Jiang Hanhang could always pester them: “Hurry up, sisters! I wanna wash too!”

So, Jiang Kekai, with a change of clothes in hand, went back to her room to play video games. It truly felt like paradise—no prying eyes, and she could do whatever she wanted in the comfort of her sanctuary.

Click!

Xia Ling returned after finishing her meal.

Dinner had been a feast crafted by the culinary skills of Xia Yu, but thanks to Uncle Li’s family, they didn’t feel very full. So, once back in her room, Xia Ling pulled out a bag of chips and plopped down next to Jiang Hanhang. “What’s wrong? Not feeling happy?”

“Isn’t it the same for you?”

Jiang Hanhang shot a look at Xia Ling; after spending so much time together, they could read each other like a book. They both knew exactly why they were bothered.

Thankfully, Uncle Li’s family was just here for a meal, so Jiang Hanhang thought she might need to remind her future father-in-law to not invite just anyone over anymore.

“Wanna play a game?”

Not wanting to dwell on things that put a damper on the mood, Xia Ling suggested they shift topics. “Nope, not in the mood.”

Jiang Hanhang, unusually uninterested in gaming, turned over and flopped on the princess bed. “Xia Ling, tell me, if your dad had agreed earlier, what would you have done?”

“Huh?”

Xia Ling had resolved not to think about those things anymore, only to find Jiang Hanhang was still hung up on them. But she was ready with her answer: “Don’t worry, Hanhang! I’m calling the shots when it comes to my marriage. If Dad tries to force me, I’ll just elope with you! You’ve always wanted to run away, right?”

“Totally! Let’s pack our stuff and elope right now!”

Xia Ling: “….”

Seeing Jiang Hanhang seriously about to pack her bags, Xia Ling yanked her back. “Hold on! You’re not really going to do it, right? Nothing like that has happened yet!”

“Aren’t you just a silly little girl?”

Jiang Hanhang rubbed the spot where Xia Ling had smacked her. Not letting her off that easy, the thought of silly girls reminded her of Xia Yu, and she added, “Xia Yu is a silly girl too! You’re both silly!”

“Hanhang! Have you not been spanked in a while or something? Are you itching for it? You think I’m easy to bully like Xia Yu?” SMACK! Jiang Hanhang suddenly found herself plopped onto the princess bed by Xia Ling. Well, they hadn’t showered yet, so a little playful wrestling wouldn’t hurt, right?

Xia Ling hesitated for a moment, before deciding to go all out; she was determined to give Jiang Hanhang a memorable experience so that she wouldn’t dare step out of line again. Meanwhile, Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai had both just finished their cozy shower.

“Where’s Hanhang? Didn’t she say she was in a hurry? Where is she?”

“Forget her! Let’s go dry our hair. Don’t want to catch a chill.”

“Oh.”
