Chapter 435: Extremely Honorable
Back at her seat, Xia Yu suddenly realized she was drenched in cold sweat. Seriously, she was a bundle of nerves! Who knew that coming in first place meant she had to give a speech? But… on the bright side, she felt a bit smug. Being a top student felt fantastic, especially with all the envious glances directed her way!
“Are you okay?”
Gao Xiaotian looked at her as if she’d just wrestled a bear. Seriously, it was just a speech, not a battlefield! “I’m fine! By the way, remember our bet? You lost.”
Gao Xiaotian: “….”
“Little Yu, how did you pull that off?”
“Right? We thought your grades only improved a bit, but now you’re basically a genius!”
Now that Xia Yu’s grades shot up, the two girls who used to look down on her were suddenly friendly, but Xia Yu couldn’t be bothered to rekindle old friendships. So she just smiled at them and continued doing her own thing.
After hanging out with Sister Little Ning for so long, Xia Yu’s not just improved in grades; she’s also picked up a thing or two about life.
Like, if someone who usually ignores you suddenly gets buddy-buddy, they definitely want something. Xia Yu wasn’t born yesterday! With Sister Little Ning around, she didn’t need a bunch of flaky friends. She wouldn’t want to upset Sister Little Ning, anyway.
Seeing that Xia Yu wasn’t in a chatting mood, the two girls retreated to their seats, figuring it was better not to make fools of themselves.
Popular students get more attention, mainly because they can offer homework help and answer questions. The two girls were definitely looking to take advantage of that.
Unfortunately for them, Xia Yu seemed to be riding high on her new-found academic pride, at least that’s how it looked to them. Meanwhile, the homeroom teacher, He Gongxing, wrapped up his lengthy monologue and dove into the class to grade the exams.
After class, Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang intended to do their usual restroom run with Xia Yu, but just then, He Gongxing swooped in beside Xia Yu’s desk.
At that moment, Gao Xiaotian was still glued to his phone, completely oblivious. Xia Yu kicked him, but he was too engrossed to notice.
It wasn’t until He Gongxing snatched the phone from his hands that he finally snapped back to reality.
“Go wait in my office.” He Gongxing said, furious.
He had his eye on this student for a while, but with Xia Yu’s protective presence, he never found the right moment. Until now, he finally got his chance!
Xia Yu: “….”
Dude, I tried! You were just too absorbed to blame me! Watching Gao Xiaotian walk away, Xia Yu mentally sighed.
Just when Xia Yu thought He Gongxing would leave her be, he turned to her, causing her heart to leap into her throat again.
“Do you want to switch seats?”
Xia Yu: “???”
Seeing her completely puzzled expression, He Gongxing elaborated, “I’ve seen your talent! Maybe sitting here isn’t the best for your learning? Shall I move you to the front? You can sit behind your sister.”
Upon hearing this, Xia Yu finally grasped why He Gongxing said that. He thought she was a top student!
But she didn’t want any special treatment. She preferred to stay in the unbothered back row: “No, thank you, Teacher. I like it here.”
He Gongxing: “…Are you sure? This won’t affect your studies?”
“Nope.”
Seeing her stubbornness, He Gongxing couldn’t push her any further and reluctantly agreed, “Alright then. You have half a semester left before you graduate from elementary. Work hard.”
Suddenly, as if an idea struck him, he added, “You know how Gao Xiaotian’s grades are, right? See if you can help him out. After all, he’s your desk buddy. Mutual help and all that.”
“Sure.”
He Gongxing liked obedient kids like Xia Yu who said yes to everything. Too bad she didn’t want to switch seats, so he dropped that idea.
Having said his piece, he didn’t linger, especially since Gao Xiaotian was waiting for a lecture in his office for being so brazen as to play on his phone during class!
Once the homeroom teacher left, Xia Yu finally felt she could relax and laid her head down on the desk for a quick rest. But in less than a minute, Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang came over.
“Little Yu, let’s go to the bathroom together!”
Jiang Hanhang was used to dragging Xia Yu to the bathroom by now. In fact, she even slipped her arm out of Xia Ling’s hold to push and pull Xia Yu along.
Xia Yu: “…You guys go ahead. I’m not going.”
“Not happening! Holding it in is bad for your health. Let’s go!”
“I’m not going.”
Xia Yu pouted and turned to face the wall, ignoring her two mischievous little tormentors.
Even after all this time, Xia Yu still felt a strange aversion to using the girls’ restroom. Not just that one; the boys’ restroom was off-limits too! The idea of going anywhere was undesirable when all she wanted was to hold on for dear life until she got home.
But… was that possible? Absolutely not.
Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang had spent enough time around Xia Yu to know exactly what was going on in her mind. There was no escaping; she was a girl now. They were just helping her embrace her new identity!
So, exchanging knowing glances, they each grabbed one of Xia Yu’s arms and hoisted her up. If she wouldn’t go willingly, this was the only way!
Xia Yu, still recovering from transforming into a girl, was no match for their combined strength.
Before she knew it, she was being carried out of the classroom, amid the gazes of her classmates. How exceedingly… honorable!
