Chapter 426

### Chapter 438: Rest Easy

Seeing Little Husky cower and not dare to follow his instructions to scare Jiang Hanhang, Xia Yu couldn’t help but angrily ruffle its little dog head: “They say you’re dumb, but why don’t you show your usual stupidity now?”

Little Husky: “….”

Seeing Xia Yu’s dejected expression, Jiang Hanhang found this amusing. She then came over to stroke Little Husky’s head, “Good boy. I’ll give you a big bone tonight.”

“Awoof~” Xia Yu: “….…”

“Fine, fine, go play. Since you’re all buddies anyway, I’m going to take a bath.”

Seeing Jiang Hanhang and Little Husky get along so well, Xia Yu had no interest in holding onto Little Husky any longer. She simply shoved it towards Jiang Hanhang, “I’m going to take a bath.” Jiang Hanhang: “…..”

Holding Little Husky in her arms, Jiang Hanhang felt somewhat helpless. She needed to take a bath herself or her Older Sister wouldn’t let her into the room. Still, since she already held it, she might as well entertain Little Husky a bit.

As she pondered that, Jiang Hanhang instantly cheered up, cuddling Little Husky beside Xia Ling, “Want to hold too?” Xia Ling: “… No, I don’t want to bathe now. Let me do that later.”

The summer break was quite enjoyable. Apart from going to Master Chen’s place for lessons each day, Xia Yu had nothing much to do.

After all, there were no summer assignments for sixth graders. So, she could live her life carefree.

After bathing, Xia Yu finally felt fully awake and ready to tackle the world, leaving no room for even a nap. Luckily, she didn’t plan on napping anyway.

Back in her room, Xia Yu saw that Little Ning was busy working. Her eyes scanned over the data on the computer screen, and she felt a pang in her heart for her hardworking sister Little Ning.

Cautiously sneaking up behind her, Xia Yu crawled onto Little Ning’s back, wrapping her arms around her neck in an intimate manner. “Little Ning, are you hungry? Want anything? I’ll make it for you.”

“Sure.”

The corners of Little Ning’s mouth turned up slightly, but she didn’t stop working, responding with a serious tone, “I want to eat you, though I’m not sure if you’re willing to give yourself over.” Xia Yu: “….”

Why must Little Ning get so weird and teasing lately? This wasn’t fun at all. Xia Yu pouted and bounced right back to the princely bed. After being free all this time, why did Little Ning still need to be busy?

Reaching over for the tablet on the bedside table, Xia Yu started browsing online, killing time by reading about interesting happenings around the world. Just then, her phone rang…

Taking a look, Xia Yu realized it was her Grandma calling. It didn’t take a genius to guess what her grandmother wanted. Sure enough, once she picked up the call, Grandma’s voice came through, “Little Yu, when are you coming back? The corn and peanuts are ripe. Need any help?”

Typically, she would probably call Dad, Big Brother, or Sister first. Only during this time would Grandma prefer to contact Xia Yu directly. With a bitter smile, Xia Yu replied, “Let’s see. I’ll discuss with Mom and Dad first. But definitely, we will be coming over.”

Grandma seemed reassured by Xia Yu’s promise, “Alright, just let me know when you decide. I’ll prepare everything here.”

“Okay.”

Ending the call, Xia Yu rolled around again on the soft, plush princess bed… feeling exhausted.

She had skipped her hometown summers last year due to mental health issues, but today seemed inevitable. Recalling the backbreaking farm work, Xia Yu was dreading it.

It wasn’t because she was too vain or moody, but farm work was just plain exhausting. Remembering the blisters on her earlier workdays, she winced at the painful memories.

Not only was the labor physically draining, but there was also the constant worry during rest hours that the rain might wash away the crops, destroying their efforts.

That’s why, at harvest time, those families with more hands gained an advantage since they could work quicker.

Despite her focus on work, Jiang Kanrong’s mind was half on Xia Yu’s welfare. Hearing Xia Yu’s conversation, she knew Xia Yu had to return and help out.

Jiang Kanrong didn’t wish Xia Yu to undertake such grueling tasks. Not only was she worried about Xia Yu building muscles and becoming less delicate, but the sun would surely darken her skin too. More importantly, she feared Xia Yu’s frail body might not withstand the scorching sun exposure. Losing consciousness outdoors could lead to complications.

Moreover, Jiang Kanrong wasn’t one to skimp on expenses.

But after spending so much time with Xia Yu, she understood how deeply Xia Yu cared for her family. So, she thought perhaps she could find a way to ease Xia Yu’s burden.

“Xia Yu, do you have a lot of land to tend?” “Uh, I think it’s about ten acres. Why do you ask?”

“What if I send some of my bodyguards to help your grandmother out? How does that sound?” “Uh?”

Jiang Kanrong’s plan fit exactly with her own style. Xia Yu didn’t question whether this was a joke. However, sending the bodyguards to assist in harvesting the crops?

Xia Yu could almost picture the bodyguards dressed in suits, peeling off corn in the field.

But she quickly snapped back: “Lots of work, plus farm work can be dirty. They’d probably refuse these jobs. Might as well let it be.”

“This you don’t need to worry about,” said Jiang Kanrong, suddenly stopping her work and sitting beside Xia Yu, looking close-up at her.

“My bodyguards aren’t easy to come by. Before they are chosen, they undergo rigorous training and annual physical examinations. So, their strength and hygiene aren’t things to worry about – they’ve even rolled through mud pits before!”

“But… I still feel uncomfortable, knowing someone would need to do these manual tasks daily. I doubt my grandmother would want others’ help anyway.”

Sigh.

How can something so sweet be so endearing?

This time, Jiang Kanrong decided to lie beside Xia Yu and wrap her arms around the freshly showered, fragrant Xiao Yu. “Leave it to me. I’ll handle things.”
