### Chapter 37: Night Hunt
Sometimes selling info can be quite lucrative, leveraging the gaps between people’s knowledge to make big bucks.
Even though Night Star can be a bit slow at times, she’s surprisingly savvy when it comes to certain things.
She doesn’t need to go through any shady groups to get information—she just needs to find her Announcer, Mo Rabbit!
Unfortunately, Night Star has no idea where Mo Rabbit might be.
Mo Rabbit has been missing from day one.
Must have gone off somewhere to have fun.
And Night Star can’t even reach her—whether it’s because her phone is off or something else.
So, for now, shopping for info seems like the best bet.
“Umm, is it very expensive?”
Night Star asked cautiously, worried the price would exceed her budget. Even though she’s loaded, she isn’t the kind to splurge, let alone waste money.
Claire wasn’t sure how to respond.
“It depends on what you’re asking. The value of a piece of info is determined by its difficulty to obtain.”
Night Star pondered for a moment and then inquired tentatively.
“What about the Order of Sequence? How much is that worth?”
“This is quite broad; it all depends on what you want to know.”
“I just want to know what the Order does in the Free Country.”
Night Star naturally cares a lot about the Free Country’s law enforcement concerning the Stars. After all, they could cross paths sometime soon. Getting a head start wouldn’t hurt.
Even if she’s confident in her fighting skills, peaceful resolutions are always nice. Besides, Night Star isn’t keen on violence.
“Oh? You actually want to know this?”
Claire was a bit surprised.
“Is it not okay? Is it very expensive?”
“No, it’s not that. It’s just…”
Claire’s expression was complicated.
It turned out this little loli didn’t know. Likely not someone from the industry; must be someone who’s been mingling with normal society without getting too entrenched in the dark side.
In the Free Country, the Order of Sequence is widely known, almost household names. Regular folks becoming believers in the Order isn’t uncommon either.
Even in the underworld, the Order of Sequence is feared by many, small and large forces alike.
Who can blame them? The Order is a big deal in the Free Country.
Claire decided to cut through the bs and told Night Star frankly, “This info is cheap and I can give it to you for free.”
“Yay! Just tell me already!”
“The Order of Sequence is a religious enforcement agency that works alongside the state government. Its members aren’t just traditional nuns, priests, or missionaries; there are many combat personnel, more like religious knights. Their daily tasks include praying and going on missions. These missions mostly involve Star Eclipses and Stars. They aim to prevent the nation from slipping under the influence of strange powers. Every city has a church dedicated to the Order, making it the heart of religion in the Free Country.”
After hearing this long explanation, Night Star went deep into thought.
“And do they force wild Star Holders into joining by claiming demon and god powers? Or maybe k*ll those who refuse to join?”
“Well, uh…”
Claire couldn’t help but twitch his lips.
“You came from which age? This isn’t your grandpa’s playground. The Order is barely a decent law enforcement agency now; they don’t force weak Star Holders to join, but they’re really strict with unauthorized Star organizations. Our group is within their strike zone, so we haven’t faced them yet.”
“So they’re still monopolizing?”
“No, more than half of the major accidents in the Free Country are caused by Star organizations. When explosions happen, they’re probably involved.”
Claire spoke with confidence, as if he had plenty of experience.
Night Star fell silent, deep in thought.
Does it feel like…the Star organizations here are even more chaotic than Star Eclipses?
Are you guys sure these aren’t just terrorists?!
Attacks involving Star Holders are horrifying.
Much like before, ordinary law enforcement agencies can’t handle such incidents. Only Star-specific agencies can handle it.
It’s better safe than sorry.
As for why the Free Country hasn’t cleaned up these weird Star organizations…they’re incredibly liberal.
From where Night Star stands, the Order of Sequence seems busier than the Night Watchers. At least in Huaxia, there aren’t as many made-up troubles compared to the abundance in the Free Country. She felt a pang of sympathy for the Order of Sequence.
Of course, this is also why the Order doesn’t follow the dirty tactics of the Holy Church.
As long as the Order isn’t a cult, Night Star can tolerate them, even if she’s not a fan of religions.
“Mhh, got the gist.”
She learned about the Order from Claire and gathered valuable intel.
But Night Star’s curiosity remained. She wanted to ask more questions, like about Star Eclipses.
But she didn’t know how the Free Country dealt with Star Eclipses or what the Order did to counter such abnormal phenomena.
It’s not like they just pray to cleanse demons, right?
Given the image of the Free Country in her mind… there’s a high chance of a clean and quick extermination.
While Night Star was deep in thought, Claire, sitting nearby, decided to take control.
“I’ve answered your questions for free. Now, may I ask some trivial stuff?”
“Oh, go on.”
“Since you two are both Star Holders, do you belong to any organization?”
Night Star considered mentioning the Rising Sun Theater Group but reconsidered as it sounded alarming.
“Not currently.”
“Do you have an interest in working with us?” Claire finally revealed his intentions.
Just then, a confused Night Star listened as Claire spouted what seemed like a sales pitch.
“We have an organization called Night Hunt, hinting at nighttime hunting. I’m part of a five-person team, each with different objectives.”
Before Claire finished, Night Star guessed the rest.
Was he inviting her and Kong Yu Bai to join this Star organization?
Strange.
But Night Star wasn’t ready to say no immediately. There’s so much uncertainty in the Free Country. She’ll hear him out first.
It’s never too late to say no later.
Besides, she enjoys the unpredictability of it all.
Anyway, it’s not like she’s back in Huaxia anymore.
