Chapter 55: Waking Up from the Dream
Night Lan’s expression was rather awkward.
Just moments ago, she was grandly asking the Dream Narrator about their wish, only to find out she couldn’t grant it because her spiritual power was too low. It felt incredibly embarrassing.
However, this didn’t stop Night Lan from continuing to ask about the Dream Narrator’s wish.
“Uh, what’s your wish? If you don’t tell me, how am I supposed to know if I can make it come true?”
“I’m quite sure you can’t.”
“Don’t underestimate people, kora!”
Night Lan wasn’t at all convinced. Her cheeks were puffed up in indignation, as if she really wanted to help the Dream Narrator right away.
The Dream Narrator gave an elegant smile and slowly said, “Alright then, my wish is for you to take me to the Origin of the Stars. Can you do that?”
“Hmph! How do you know unless you try?”
Night Lan quickly adopted a serious look and started communicating with the stars within her.
“Wish Machine! Hurry up and grant this wish!”
Seconds passed, then tens of seconds, then a minute.
“…”
Night Lan still maintained a serious face, while the Dream Narrator smiled at her; the atmosphere quickly turned awkward.
“Mmm…”
Night Lan’s expression instantly fell. She hugged Dream Pursuer Yin tightly in her arms, her adorable innocent and helpless look on full display.
“Sorry, I can’t…”
Although the Dream Narrator’s dreams could isolate other stars, they couldn’t isolate Night Lan’s star.
Since it was a Rank-breaking star, it was difficult to suppress it.
Moreover, the Wish Machine wasn’t an ordinary Rank-breaking one. It could be used even within the Dream Narrator’s constructed dream realm.
Yet, the same sense of powerlessness she felt earlier while trying to summon the Wish Princess surfaced once again, making it evident that it was beyond her reach.
In the end, such wishes seemed too problematic to accomplish.
Time travel might also be impossible.
It appeared that she could only achieve this after her spiritual power grew stronger.
Unluckily, Night Lan had no idea how to increase her spiritual power.
The Night Watcher Base had many methods for Star Holders to improve their spiritual power, but Night Lan had tried them all—and none worked.
Perhaps her star was Rank-breaking, and typical methods to boost spiritual power were futile.
Seems like she’d have to just go with the flow.
Definitely not because Night Lan was lazy or unwilling to work hard!
The Dream Narrator remained calm.
“Don’t worry, I don’t expect you to help me right now. I’m patient. I can wait until you grow strong enough to do it.”
“Mmm… What if it takes a long time?”
“I will wait. I have plenty of time to spare.”
“Alright.” Night Lan mumbled.
Sending the Dream Narrator to meet the mysterious Star Origin seemed okay. At least Night Lan considered it nothing too terrible—very much within reason.
As one of the individuals who followed the Star Origin back then, the Dream Narrator’s desire to locate the “deity” felt quite reasonable.
Too bad Night Lan couldn’t help at the moment.
But there was another issue.
If she couldn’t fulfill the Dream Narrator’s wish, did that mean she couldn’t learn about the details of the Supernova Star Eclipses in the Free Country?
Awful!
“Dream Narrator, would you mind telling me about that Supernova Star Eclipses information in the Free Country? I’ll definitely grant your wish someday!”
Regardless, let’s get the information first. The thought otherwise was too distressing.
The Dream Narrator gently nodded.
“No problem. I trust you won’t break your promise. You can come to me anytime for questions, and consider it advance payment.”
“Awesome!”
But Night Lan became puzzled soon afterward.
“But how will I contact you when I have questions? Do you plan on following me everywhere?”
“Not at all. I’ll continue wandering around, occasionally showing up in people’s lives without any regularity. I won’t stay in one place for too long.” The Dream Narrator shook her head gently. “However, I have a way for you to meet me anytime you want.”
“What’s that?” Night Lan tilted her head curiously.
The Dream Narrator stood up and walked to Night Lan’s side, looking down at her.
“Uh,” Night Lan instinctively hugged Dream Pursuer Yin tighter, feeling a bit nervous.
Before Night Lan could ask anything, the Dream Narrator touched her forehead lightly, as if completing some kind of ceremony.
“Gulp?”
Night Lan froze, looking utterly innocent.
Only when the Dream Narrator removed her finger did Night Lan relax her body.
“Phew… What were you doing just now?”
“Giving your soul something, like a mark. You can remove it with your own power. With this mark, no matter where I am, you’ll be able to dream of me, and I’ll appear in your dreams to answer your questions. Simple, right?”
“Oh wow… Feels a bit weird though…”
“Don’t worry. I won’t enter your dreams randomly. Usually, I’ll only come when summoned by you. And you can summon Dream Pursuer Yin in your dreams via this mark. Think you’ll accept that?”
The Dream Narrator smiled elegantly, her eyes brimming with wisdom—it seemed she knew Night Lan quite well.
Night Lan instantly held up her thumbs and wholeheartedly approved of the Dream Narrator’s actions.
“Awesome!”
This way, during sleep, Night Star or Night Lan could hug Dream Pursuer Yin in their dreams whenever they wanted.
Dream Pursuer Yin was a Star Eclipse, but she was also a cute, harmless little girl—still soft and cuddly as ever. It was perfect!
To top it off, Dream Pursuer Yin enjoyed being hugged. They cooperated fully.
Not only did Night Star and Night Lan want to achieve hugging freedom in real life, but they also craved it in their dreams. It was 24/7 bonding with the little girl, fitting perfectly for someone with her inclinations.
Alright, fantasy over, onto the serious matters.
Night Lan needed to ask about one of the Star Origin followers active in the Free Country, specifically the oldest among the Supernova Star Eclipses.
If she happened to bump into him in the Free Country, she wouldn’t need to be so nervous anymore.
Turning the unknown into the known would give her a better advantage.
The Dream Narrator smiled gracefully and began sharing information about her old friend in the Free Country.
Their conversation was brief, not nearly as long as Night Lan imagined. When she came to her senses, the Dream Narrator had finished speaking.
Night Lan filed the information away in her mind.
“Well, that’s everything for now. It’s time to wake up.”
Following the Dream Narrator’s prompt, Dream Pursuer Yin placed her flute to her lips and played the dream-wakening tune.
Whistling…
The melodious sound filled the air, blurring Night Lan’s vision.
When she regained her senses, she realized she had returned to the real world.
Night Lan lay bewildered on the bed, alongside a ghost girl named Eypar.
“Waking up from the dream…”
