Chapter 47: Wang Wenjuan’s Suggestion

“Yeah… I like it~”

Suddenly realizing what she had said might not have been the best thing to say, sure enough, after hearing her mother’s words, Xia Yu blushed and replied, averting her eyes, somewhat guiltily, “But I’m a boy, right? Boys can only have short hair, can’t they?”
“Who says boys can only have short hair? Look at the TV; there are so many boys with long hair. Besides…” Wang Wenjuan suddenly found Xia Yu’s cute, attractive outfit amusing: “If you cut your hair short, you won’t be able to wear Little Ling’s cute outfits anymore. It wouldn’t look right.”
“So you don’t support me getting a haircut?” Xia Yu looked at her mother sadly, knowing full well if this were the case, her hair wouldn’t ever see the scissors.
“No, um, getting a haircut costs a lot these days. I think your long hair looks better, actually. Plus, you can still wear Little Ling’s cute outfits. If the length bothers you, I could trim it a bit, how does that sound?”
“What about when school starts? The school won’t allow me like this, will they?” Xia Yu said, clearly flustered.
Wang Wenjuan, however, had a laid-back response: “Rules are one thing, people are another. We could just have your father talk to them beforehand. It’s not like it’s some secret.”
“Alright…”
Sighing in resignation, Xia Yu really did not want to cut her hair, especially after having grown used to it over time. But if having long hair attracted gossip saying boys shouldn’t, then maybe she had no choice.
Since her mom had put it that way, she might as well compromise. After all, wasn’t being pretty better than losing money?
