Chapter 48

Chapter 48: The Odd Mother

Let’s get started. Wang Wenjuan didn’t waste Xia Yu’s time, so after Xia Yu agreed, she got up and said, “Let’s go. Since we have time, I’ll fix up your hairstyle.”

“Uh-huh~”

Xia Qianmeng softly agreed, then followed her mother. Actually, she was quite curious about what kind of hairdo her mom planned to give her.

It wasn’t odd for girls to let their parents cut their hair at home; it saved money. Thus, in Xia Yu’s house, there was a set of simple haircut tools: a neckcloth, comb, and scissors.

You didn’t need many tools to cut a girl’s hair—these would do fine. Unlike boys’ short haircuts that required an electric trimmer for convenience.

Interestingly, these tools were originally used for Xia Ling’s haircuts. Who knew? Now Xia Yu, who had long hair, might also use them.

They fetched a big chair from inside and placed it on the concrete yard outside. This way, it’d be easier to clean up Xia Yu’s chopped-off locks afterward. Xia Ling had used this spot too before for her haircuts.

Naturally, to get her hair done, warm, pretty down jackets had to come off. Otherwise, how could they put on the neckcloth? So Xia Yu’s inner knitted sweater became visible.

Knitted sweaters needed to be snug to work well. The one Xia Yu wore now did the same—tight but cozy—showing clear bumps from the bras underneath…

She couldn’t help it. Xia Ling’s bras had some padding, and with the tight sweater, it made perfect sense for imprints to show.

Wang Wenjuan, not being blind, noticed. She knew what Xia Yu must have been wearing underneath, but she kept quiet, knowing this was Xia Ling’s handiwork. She decided she’d take time later to educate that girl properly.

Playtime had its limits, after all.

Xia Yu sat on that big chair like Xia Ling used to, and her mother carefully draped the neckcloth over her. Then, the moment to transform Xia Yu’s hair began.

In her heart, Wang Wenjuan had a mischievous idea: maybe she could cut Xia Yu’s hair to look somewhat like Xia Ling’s girly hairstyles. Should be fun, right?

While Xia Yu felt tickles as the bits of hair fell, she stayed still. Moving even slightly could ruin the look and make her look… well, ridiculous.

Coincidence or not, when Xia Yu’s haircut reached halfway, Xia Ling came back from playing outside. Spotting her sister getting a hairdo, Xia Ling’s eyes widened. She hoped Xia Yu’s long locks wouldn’t get cut short.

As she approached, Xia Ling got a better look at her sister’s new, rather… noticeable state. How could Xia Yu look so feminine when Mom was treating her like a boy?

It wasn’t that Xia Ling hated the idea; she just wondered why Mom wanted to give Xia Yu such a girly look. Was it because Mom had figured something out?

Mother, you sure know how to be weird.
