### Chapter 5: Star
Quick as the wind—this must be what they meant by Night Lan!
“So fast!”
Realizing she could actually run at such incredible speeds, Night Lan was already bubbling with excitement.
This was just a trial run; she hadn’t even pushed herself to the limit, not knowing where that limit lay.
With that thought, Night Lan decided to accelerate.
“I can go even faster!”
Whoosh!
As her speed increased, Night Lan left behind increasingly blurry images on the road, like a shadow on the verge of vanishing.
If you blinked, you’d swear no one was running at all.
By this point, Night Lan had completely forgotten about the onlookers.
She was lost in the fantastic feeling that speed gave her!
Meanwhile…
Standing on the overpass, Cai Xun noticed this oddity.
“Holy cow! What’s that?”
White Paint and Bu Jie were also drawn in by the spectacle. As Night Watchers, they quickly caught on to the unusual sight too.
“Looks like a person? But it shouldn’t be one of ours,” Bu Jie concluded rapidly. “But why are they running so fast? Genetic modification? No, current technology isn’t that advanced yet.”
A contemplative look formed in White Paint’s eyes.
“It must be a star! She’s awakened her star powers just like us.”
The term “star” refers to the Night Watchers’ collective designation for their abilities.
These stars exhibit supernatural powers that can’t be explained by science, and certain specific individuals are the vessels for these stars.
The tiers based on how these stars manifest can vary significantly.
They are divided into “New Star,” “Bright Moon,” and “Sunlight.”
The lowest tier, “New Star,” doesn’t signify weak abilities—it simply means that their powers aren’t very applicable in many situations; they’re more niche.
Next up, “Bright Moon” has a broader utility, like abilities that can deal damage or provide support.
The number of Night Watchers with this tier is fairly substantial; it’s useful in many scenarios.
Lastly, “Sunlight” embodies the frontline attacking force among Night Watchers.
A prime example would be the “Doll City” incident, where five Sunlight tier Night Watchers played crucial roles.
Without them, Night Watchers would have suffered even more dire losses.
Of course, the categorization of the stars that reside within Night Watchers is merely the judgment of professionals.
Mistakes or misjudgments can sometimes occur.
For instance, a Night Watcher may not fully awaken their “star,” only showing a portion of its power, leading to easy misjudgments.
Additionally, if an ability isn’t fully developed, the likelihood of misjudgment escalates.
A star’s growth can be tied to the person’s soul, spirit, and physical state, depending on the type.
Thus, a “New Star” or “Bright Moon” can still evolve into a “Sunlight.”
Well, provided they do what they’re supposed to!
Is there something even wilder?
Oh yes.
Supernova.
Technically, this extraordinary capability also belongs to the “star” family.
But it’s tricky to harness; it’s more like an unstable bomb born from a poor vessel.
Old foes, new sources.
Stars can awaken in more than just Night Watchers.
Put simply, only those who have awakened their stars qualify to become Night Watchers.
Because only those who bear stars can notice the anomalies caused by runaway stars.
These anomalies stem from stars that tend to go out of control, usually confined to a small scale, easily managed or resolved—unless we’re talking about Supernovas, which are the exception.
Such anomalies are referred to as Star Eclipses, and handling them is the primary duty of the Night Watchers.
Back to reality.
White Paint thought that the person dashing at breakneck speed was indeed an awoken star.
If someone were to randomly sprint through the streets, causing chaos, wouldn’t that qualify as a Star Eclipse?
Just as White Paint was deep in thought, Cai Xun and Bu Jie shouted in alarm beside him.
“Dude! Look! She just sped up!”
“Yo, I saw it!”
White Paint cast a lazy glance at the duo before returning his gaze to the increasingly fast figure.
At this rate, she’d soon disappear from their view.
That could definitely be categorized as an anomaly.
Given the current special circumstances, they needed to catch her for an investigation—that was the order from above.

Night Lan had no idea that three people had caught wind of her odd behavior.
Right now, she was like a runaway husky, blissfully unaware of her surroundings and lost in her own joy.

Just as she was about to push for more speed, a sudden wave of fatigue washed over her.
This feeling of helplessness made her movements stutter, and the abrupt change in speed knocked her off balance.
Night Lan’s face went pale.
“Oh no!”
Thud!
Roll, roll, roll—
The next thing you know, Night Lan rolled away like a ball for quite a distance.
Cai Xun and Bu Jie, watching from the overpass, were left gaping.
“Whoa!”
“My mom!”
White Paint blinked, stunned for a moment, before rushing over.
Cai Xun and Bu Jie followed right behind.
By the time the three reached the scene, several people had already noticed Night Lan peacefully lying on the ground.
Now, they looked as if they were about to cart off this little girl, who ran so fast she fainted, to the hospital.
The three quickly approached.
“We’re doctors; leave it to us! She needs emergency treatment, please step back.”
Night Watchers can take on whatever identity helps them execute their tasks without facing repercussions.
The bystanders quickly dispersed after hearing this.
The trio crouched in front of the petite loli.
Cai Xun examined her closely, eyes going wide.
“Wow, a girl barely in her teens running that fast! After that kind of fall, even a Night Watcher would be wiped out on the spot!”
White Paint checked Night Lan’s body.
“She still has a heartbeat and is breathing—she’s salvageable.”
Now, Night Lan’s exposed skin bore various degrees of abrasions, and there was even bl**d on her face—likely from hitting her head.
As Bu Jie prepared to remove her cap, Night Lan suddenly opened her eyes wide.
“Whoa! You scared me!”
Bu Jie quickly recoiled his hand, but Night Lan grabbed him by the wrist.
“Help me… go back and destroy my computer… format my phone too…”
After saying that, Night Lan fainted again, this time looking peaceful as could be.

“No, girl! I don’t even know where you live; how am I supposed to help you?”
White Paint shot him a glare.
“Quick, call our organization’s medical team!”
“On it!”
And just like that, mere moments after she took off, Night Lan was whisked away as if packed into a box.
Meanwhile, in a little room somewhere…
A silver-haired loli held her head in her hands on the bed, letting out cute whimpers of despair.
“Waaah! It hurts so much!”
