Chapter 52

Chapter 52: Little Yu’s Choice

Since there was still a ton of food to prepare tonight, the grown-ups in the house were worried Xia Yu would mess up the dishes, so they didn’t let her go downstairs to cook. Instead, they rolled up their sleeves and did it themselves.

Thanks to this, Xia Yu got more time to play games in Xia Ling’s room—pure bliss.

It wasn’t until the adults called them down for dinner that Xia Yu and Xia Ling finally put on their cotton slippers and headed downstairs.

When they arrived, Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s sisterly outfits naturally took everyone by surprise, except for Mom Wang Wenjuan. But just like a flash, everyone quickly accepted the new look. Seeing as Xia Yu had worn girl clothes before during the New Year’s visits, seeing her like this now was no big shock.

Though taken aback, the adults kept quiet about Xia Yu’s outfit, partly because they didn’t know what to say, and partly because Xia Yu looked stunning.

Xia Le had the most complicated feelings inside. Watching his former sidekick dressed so beautifully and with his youngest sister Xia Ling getting all the attention made him feel oddly crestfallen.

Sure enough, at dinner, Xia Ling naturally sat Xia Yu next to her, making them look incredibly close.

But then, when Xia Yu thought everything was going smoothly, her mom Wang Wenjuan addressed her dad Xia Hong with something that sent chills down her spine: “Honey, I fixed Xia Yu’s hair today. Could we not cut her hair anymore? I think she looks great like this. Can you talk to the school about it?”

The whole family turned their eyes toward Xia Yu, who had always sported a different style.

Seeing Xia Yu’s cute transformation, Xia Hong hesitated. He’d be fine if Xia Yu were a girl. In that case, he’d have no objections. However, Xia Yu was his son, and long hair might impact his growth.

After much deliberation, Xia Hong decided to leave the decision to Xia Yu himself, since ultimately, the child’s opinions mattered most: “Xia Yu, what do you think? I respect your choice.”

“If my little sister looks so cute with long hair and can wear pretty dresses too, wouldn’t it be better to keep it long? Right?”

Excited, Xia Ling suddenly hugged Xia Yu, since she didn’t want Xia Yu cutting off those lovely locks. They made her adorable.

Looking from her dad to her mom, and finally to Xia Ling, who was still hugging her expectantly, Xia Yu blushed and replied shyly, “Then… let’s keep it!”

Grandpa and Grandma didn’t say anything about their grandchild’s choice. They found this version of Xia Yu quite appealing compared to the boyish one.

Hearing Xia Yu’s answer, Xia Hong nodded. “Alright, I’ll talk to the teachers. Just remember to study well after school, especially you, Xia Yu. You missed a lot this semester. Xia Ling can help you catch up.”

Xia Yu: “Mhmm~”

Xia Ling: “Got it! I’ll make sure to finish the task~”

Why doesn’t Xia Hong ask Xia Le for help? Haven’t they figured out Xia Le’s attitude by now? Asking him could easily lead to a fight, or worse, nothing getting done.
