Chapter 2: Subtle Transformations
One night passed.
After the sky brightened, Night Star Lan slept in until ten in the morning before finally dragging herself out of bed.
Lately, she had nothing much to do and didn’t have to worry about anything. Plus, she got to cuddle up with her favorite self while sleeping, so of course, she was going to sleep in!
And after sleeping in, she could go snuggle with her friends.
Like White Fish from the Night Watcher Base.
Or Lily from the Rising Sun Theater.
All great friends to get cozy with!
Then, Nightlan and Nightlan quickly freshened up and primped themselves, finally reaching an acceptable state for heading outside.
Nightlan didn’t plan on using the Theater Door to head to the Night Watcher Base.
That seemed a bit suspicious. It would be better to take the Star Chaser car instead.
After all, this baby is super cool! To ditch the awesome Star Chaser just because there’s a convenient teleportation method like the Theater Door seems a bit overkill.
Besides, Nightlan loved driving.
“I’m off!”
Nightlan notified EyPar, who was floating around the room, then stepped out of the door.
Once outside, she turned to look next door, which was where Mo Tu lived.
Mo Rabbit should have returned to Yun Chang City after coming back from Huaxia.
This means she might change from a little loli to a black-haired youth.
Too bad.
It would be perfect if she could stay a little loli forever!
She’s way too cute, though.
Nightlan shook off the weird thoughts and summoned her nearby Star Chaser with a smart device.
As soon as she got in, Nightlan took off.
Next door.
Mo Tu’s little cottage.
A black-haired loli just woke up, having the rare luxury of sleeping in.
“Back to the mundane reality.”
Mo Rabbit stretched lazily, absentmindedly fussing with her messy short hair.
Since returning to Yun Chang City, she hasn’t reverted to her former look but slept in her girl form, which felt oddly liberating. Because everything felt huge since her body shrunk, and usually, she’d roll off the bed.
But the role of the Announcer didn’t feel like that; everything suddenly felt spacious.
It was quite comfy.
Maybe sleeping as Mo Rabbit wasn’t so bad.
Little-girl bodies had their perks, Mo Rabbit thought idly.
The next second.
“Hold up.”
Mo Rabbit froze and her face twisted oddly.
“This must be what that loli wanted to see…”
After pondering for a moment, Mo Rabbit finally gave up trying to think too hard.
Who cares?
Besides, she wasn’t that concerned about it anyway.
The little loli probably wouldn’t let it slide even if she were to resist her destiny.
Better to just give up.
As long as it didn’t affect her enjoyment, it was no big deal.
Turning into a loli? Whatever.
If the role of the Announcer hadn’t been seen publicly, Mo Rabbit would’ve joined the Yun Chang City Night Watcher Base as a loli already.
All she’d need is for Xiao Jin to make a backdoor arrangement.
But unfortunately, she’s the Announcer.
Mo Rabbit took off her pajamas and picked up a male outfit to enter the bathroom.
Moments later, the now young man Mo Tu emerged from the bathroom, still getting used to his new form.
He had grown too accustomed to being a loli and had to adjust to his new appearance.
Could this be the subtle change at work?
No denying, it’s kinda terrifying.
But at least he hasn’t forgotten his life goals.
Living’s a breeze, anyway. Like seagulls enjoying some fries at the dock.
“Huh~”
Mo Tu chuckled and walked out the door.
“Time off’s over. Gotta report to the base.”
Scene shift.
Nightlan appeared at the Night Watcher Base and prepared to go to Zero Meow’s room.
On the way, she encountered someone familiar—White Paint, White Fish’s sister.
Accompanying her were Cai Xun and Bu Jie, it seemed they had just returned from a mission together.
They greeted each other upon meeting.
“Good morning, Xiao Nightlan. Just arrived at the Night Watcher Base?”
Cai Xun greeted cheerfully.
Nightlan nodded politely.
“Hmm, I overslept today.”
“Overslept? Ah, those nostalgic words. Ever since his grandma became a Night Watcher, I haven’t slept in for ages. Got to be up early for missions, which is such a drag.” Bu Jie, as usual, made a crude remark.
But it felt kind of endearing.
Nightlan smiled without answering.
Thankfully, she was still a newbie and technically not old enough for missions yet.
If she had to wake up every morning to patrol, she’d definitely protest.
Might as well wish for eternal loli status.
White Paint then approached, patting Nightlan gently on the head as if treating her own sister, White Fish.
“Are you here to find White Fish and the others?”
“Yeah, I planned to spend time with them today too.”
“Oh, have you spent all the snack money I gave you?”
Earlier, White Paint had given Nightlan a hefty sum intended to repay her for saving her father and sister.
But no matter how you looked at it, this repayment seemed too simple.
Still, it was Nightlan’s suggestion. White Paint couldn’t really object, so she ended up giving her unlimited snack money.
If Nightlan ever ran out, she’d provide more.
Nightlan shook her head vigorously.
“No way! How could I spend it so fast? This money will keep me stocked on snacks for life!”
Just then, White Paint’s expression resembled that of a wealthy woman looking to adopt a cute girl, almost ready to buy her right off the street.
So extravagant.
If things were different, Nightlan might have desired such a situation—to be taken care of by a rich and cute girl. At least she wouldn’t have to work so hard.
Nowadays, she had saved a lot, far from being a poor loli anymore.
She was considered a rich loli now.
However, her companions were richer still—no comparison possible.
“If you want anything, just tell me. I’ll try my best to get it for you.”
“Yeah, yeah, you two go ahead. I’m heading to Zero Meow’s lounge.”
“Go on.”
With White Paint’s permission, Nightlan turned and left.
Cai Xun shouted after her departing figure:
“Remember to give us a good song tonight, Xiao Nightlan!”
“Sure thing!”
Once Nightlan was out of sight, the three sighed.
“Xiao Nightlan is getting cuter and cuter. She can sing and act cute too. I really want to adopt her.”
“Hey, p*dophile, I’ll call the cops on you. You’re gonna be picking up bars in jail,” Bu Jie quipped coldly.
“Shut up, you p*dophile. I just love little girls who can both sing and act cute. Is that wrong?”
“Uh-huh, I’m listening, go on,” Bu Jie said, pulling out a smart device, playing along seriously.
Talking about it, Night Watchers were law enforcement, so it’d be perfectly normal to apprehend criminals.
White Paint looked at them sideways.
“Want to grab some lunch?”
“You bet, let’s go.”
Food comes first, always.
