Chapter 13: Arrival at the Sea City
White Paint and Mu Ling returned to the train car.
After a short chat, White Paint found out that Mu Ling was one of the Night Watchers in charge of protecting the sea train.
Naturally, the authorities couldn’t just leave the sea train to its own devices on the ocean, so they made sure at least two Night Watchers stayed inside, ensuring safe operations until their shift ended with a changeover.
Mu Ling was one of them, while another was in a different car.
She was originally waiting for her teammate, but instead, she met White Paint first.
“Events like this don’t happen often on the sea train; the last time was two years ago.”
The waters around Pinghaishi were well protected.
This is mainly thanks to a thing called the Dusk Jellyfish, a piece of Celestial tech that acts like a robot in the shape of a jellyfish, with high strategic value.
The Dusk Jellyfish can switch between sea, land, and air modes, generally cruising in the ocean, numerous in number, specialized in hunting down mutated marine animals tainted by Star Eclipse energy.
Thanks to this tech, Pinghaishi didn’t give up on ocean-related tourism.
“You guys haven’t found the Star Eclipse causing the mutations?”
“We haven’t. It’s well-hidden, even the 【Know Star】can’t locate it. It’s a real headache.”
“I see.”
Then White Paint went back to the car where Ye Lan and company were waiting.
When Baiyu saw her sister return, she heaved a sigh of relief.
“Sis, is everything okay?”
“Yeah, for now.”
“That’s good.”
Several Lolis looked at the gray-haired girl next to White Paint with curiosity.
White Paint introduced everyone.
“This is a coworker from Pinghaishi and a fellow Night Watcher. She and I dealt with the problem earlier.”
“Ah, I get it.”
Everyone felt reassured.
A little later, Cai Xun, Bu Jie, and another man came into the car. The man was clearly Mu Ling’s colleague and seemed quite formidable.
He relaxed only after confirming the situation with Mu Ling.
“We can’t let our guard down. I’ll go back to keep checking the radar while you all chat.”
Then he left.
Mu Ling didn’t follow but stayed in the car chatting with White Paint and the others. With only them in the car and no outsiders present, they could chat freely.
“So, you came here to relax? Having a Night Watcher from another city on vacation is rare, seems like you’re pretty important.”
White Paint replied, “We’re just taking my sister and her friends out to have fun.”
Hearing this, Mu Ling looked at the little Lolis next to White Paint and found them incredibly cute.
If these adorable cuties asked, even the base leader would likely give in.
They didn’t look old enough for missions anyway, so letting these “seedlings” play wasn’t a big deal.
They probably assigned child supervisors for them.
“By the way, Pinghaishi might be dangerous under the surface. Be careful, but you’re all capable Night Watchers who can take care of yourselves, so I won’t worry too much. I hope you enjoy your vacation.”
“Thanks.”
Finally, the sea train reached the end station and slowly stopped.
Chat time between Mu Ling and White Paint and Co. came to an end.
“Well then, we should get off. If I wasn’t waiting for someone to take over, I’d almost consider bringing you back to the base.”
Clearly, Mu Ling had enjoyed chatting with White Paint and friends quite a bit.
Especially with the involvement of the charming Ye Lan and company, the conversation turned even livelier.
In this brief exchange, everyone got a preliminary sense of Mu Ling: polite, rule-abiding, and a kind 25-year-old big sister.
Quite a likable veteran Night Watcher.
But it was time to part ways; perhaps they’d run into each other again in better times.
Ye Lan and co. said goodbye to Mu Ling and all got off the train, stepping onto the ground of the sea city.
“Tsk tsk tsk, this is a sea city? Seems truly different from mainland cities.”
Cai Xun observed people and surroundings, feeling a unique, laid-back atmosphere uncommon in other urban environments.
Ye Lan also curiously checked the station, eager to head toward the beach.
But they still needed to secure a place to stay first.
Since they intended to stay for days, they’d have to stay at the Night Watcher base.
White Paint said, “Let’s head to the Night Watcher base.”
“Okay.”
The group walked out of the station and summoned a common Night Watcher fly car of this city—just wait on the spot.
After a moment, two cars arrived.
Ye Lan and friends split into groups and got on, then set the coordinates for the Night Watcher base in the city.
The cars flew for a bit before stopping at the base’s parking area.
The Night Watcher base in the sea city seemed about the same size as those from other cities, perhaps because Pinghaishi was divided, requiring two bases.
As White Paint was thinking along these lines, her Night Watcher device buzzed—someone must be coming to greet them.
Though they could navigate based on known arrangements, interpersonal etiquette mattered within the base.
Minimalism might seem efficient but lacked certain atmospherics.
White Paint and company had no issue, waiting quietly for reception.
Cai Xun and Bu Jie exchanged trivial chats, maybe discussing the Night Watcher from the sea train.
Mu Ling was a particularly charming lady, exuding a fascinating quality.
Sure, they weren’t eyeing her romantically; rather, relaxing and sightseeing by the sea was their priority.
Their true goal was the Celestial vastness!
Ye Lan and Baiyu and others were discussing where to buy swimsuits.
Seemed Baiyu and friends wanted Ye Lan’s help, leaving her no escape.
Not much different from what happened with Night Star.
No worries, though.
Experience gained from interactions with Night Star meant no more concerns about being inexperienced.
Just as the conversation was flowing, Ye Lan suddenly noticed something approaching.
She turned and spotted a petite figure drawing near.
Like a little loli?
“Oh ho~”
It was a loli with gray hair reaching her waist, but her most striking feature wasn’t her cute face; rather, her bare feet showed no signs of shoes.
Her slender feet were completely in view with no covering, unashamedly bare.
Yet she seemed unconcerned about dirtying her feet.
Closely observing, her feet floated inches above the ground—could this be a result of her celestial ability?
