Chapter 18: Having You Is Enough
“Let’s not talk about this.”
Realizing the atmosphere had turned a bit somber, Night Star quickly changed the subject.
“Mm, Lotus Flower, can you tell me the story of this puppet? It looks so cute.”
This time her wish was to fix the puppet, but the complete puppet was right in front of her.
As expected, the method to fulfill her wish would be by altering the inevitable events in history, reversing the occurrences that caused the puppet’s damage. Thus, only then could it be considered a proper completion.
Therefore, she needed as much information about this puppet as possible.
After all, it made no sense for Night Star to stick around Lotus Flower; it would be too weird.
“Do you really think so?”
Hearing Night Star’s words, Lotus Flower’s eyes lit up as if she was very happy.
“My father and my classmates say this puppet isn’t cute at all, but I think it’s the cutest! And you agree, which is great!”
“Mmmmmm~”
While saying it’s cute might be an overstatement, the puppet’s main feature is its simplicity.
Night Star thought saying it was cute might make Lotus Flower feel better—she was right.
Details do matter, after all.
But honestly, Night Star does enjoy the fun shows this small puppet can perform.
Whether or not Lotus Flower makes a difference, she gives the puppet its true value.
Lotus Flower continued excitedly, “This puppet was a gift from my mother, who was also an amazing puppeteer. She used to put on shows for me with this puppet. That’s how I fell in love with puppetry. This puppet even has a cute name: Little Lotus. How cool is that?”
“Mhmm~ indeed it is.”
It turns out this puppet was a gift from her late mother to Lotus Flower.
It’s understandable, then, that for Lotus Flower, it’s both important and holds special meaning.
Perhaps the puppet named “Little Lotus” carries her longing for her mother.
No wonder Lotus Flower felt so heartbroken when the puppet was broken.
To prevent tragedy from repeating itself, Night Star must change the outcome of this story.
Her promise to future Lotus Flower won’t be void.
Following this, Lotus Flower spoke enthusiastically about her mother’s past accomplishments, as if she were her greatest idol.
Night Star listened quietly, nodding occasionally with a genuinely attentive look.
After a while, Lotus Flower found other puppets from somewhere.
Apparently, these were commonly used by her mother during performances.
There were a lady, butler, servant, regular citizens, all distinct figures, appearing more refined than “Little Lotus.”
Night Star became curious and tried handling them.
However, under her clumsy operation, the puppet on her foot danced chaotically like a caterpillar falling down her collar.
“Pfft~”
Lotus Flower couldn’t help laughing, but held back for Night Star’s sake.
“Ugh…”
Night Star pouted adorably, struggling for a while before finally maneuvering the puppet under Lotus Flower’s guidance.
But it didn’t amount to much.
Night Star gave up instantly.
“No worries, I don’t have this talent. I guess watching you perform is more enjoyable anyway.”
With her arms folded on the table, Night Star rested her porcelain face on them, turning her head to one side, looking utterly defeated. Her silvery hair cascaded down like a waterfall.
Her crimson eyes seemed drunk, gazing warmly at the petite figure beside her.
“You’re enough… right?”
“Ugh…”
Lotus Flower’s cheeks quickly flushed, resembling ripe red apples, almost irresistible to bite.
She touched her heated face, her heart pounding.
She didn’t know why but felt quite shy.
A simple statement, paired with Night Star’s gaze and tone, struck her core.
She was indeed hit!
“Heeh~”
Lotus Flower buried her face in her hands, emitting a small wail, steam apparently rising from her head, making her look like a true vapor maiden.
Night Star looked puzzled, tilting her head and staring at the odd Lotus Flower.
“What’s wrong? Did I say something strange?”
“No… it might just be my misunderstanding.”
After a few minutes of shyness, Lotus Flower calmed her racing heartbeat.
Looking at the time now.
Over two hours passed since their conversation resumed.
Time flew by quickly.
They spent that long simply chatting and playing around, which felt like ages.
At least the two of them didn’t find it boring, so the time felt short.
“That… Night Star, dinner time’s soon. Want to eat at my place?” Lotus Flower proposed.
Inviting a friend for dinner is basic etiquette.
Sometimes, you just want to appear hospitable.
But Lotus Flower sincerely wanted Night Star to stay and dine with her.
Even spending the night here would be perfect.
“Ah? Really?”
“Mhmm, no problem, I bet my dad won’t mind.”
Night Star nodded, deep in thought.
Frankly, she wasn’t keen on eating elsewhere due to a sense of restraint.
Having dinner with people you’re not familiar with often left her wanting to finish and leave quickly.
However, seeing Lotus Flower’s hopeful eyes, Night Star agreed.
“Alright, then we’re leaving it to you guys.”
Since Nylan wouldn’t return to the Night Watcher Base tonight and they couldn’t engage in their super fun feeding play, eating alone would feel lonely.
It was best to stay at Lotus Flower’s house tonight.
Eating at her place was secondary; making Lotus Flower happy was the priority.
“Wonderful~”
Excited, Lotus Flower hugged Night Star tightly.
Several strands of hair stuck to Night Star’s tiny nose, exuding a delightful scent that tickled and smelled good.
Indeed, every girl’s body differs.
Nylan’s body was softer, very comfortable to hug, fitting for a pillow.
Lotus Flower, however, was different.
She was soft too, but had a certain skeletal quality, leaner than Nylan, needing only to fill out a few places to be perfect.
That was Night Star’s brief assessment after being hugged.
Too bad she couldn’t voice that opinion.
Then Lotus Flower released Night Star and walked out happily.
“I’ll ask my stepmother to make extra food, wait in your room, okay?”
“Mm.”
Once Lotus Flower left, Night Star lay back on the pink blanket, staring blankly at the ceiling.
“Um… maybe I forgot something?”
No idea, couldn’t recall.
