Chapter 42: Special Program
Night Lan and Star Sheng walked into the aquarium.
The lighting inside was much dimmer compared to outside, with no overly bright lights.
However, it emitted a faint, ghostly blue glow that made it feel as if they had submerged into the ocean.
Night Lan held Star Sheng’s hand and continued forward.
Tourists passed them by, one after another.
Star Sheng also looked around curiously, wanting to spot those friends of hers.
After a little while, they finally arrived at a spacious area.
Walls of glass separated them from the seawater, revealing the wonders within.
This was undoubtedly the best viewing spot in the aquarium, where they could clearly see the variously shaped fish, as if they were truly in the ocean, surrounded by these magical sea creatures.
“Whew~”
Night Lan let out a breath of relief, thinking that this place was perfect for Star Sheng.
She watched those ocean spirits swimming by.
Even Night Lan, who wasn’t particularly interested in such things, found herself drawn in.
Then, she turned to look at Star Sheng, only to find her eyes sparkling as she gazed at the marine life behind the glass, completely entranced.
“So many… so many…”
Upon seeing this, Night Lan knew she really liked it here.
“Let’s get closer and take a look.”
Night Lan let go of Star Sheng’s hand, allowing her to move freely.
Star Sheng quickly scooted up to the glass, pressing her hands against it, her eyes shimmering as she stared at the marine animals on the other side.
If it weren’t for the glass barrier, she probably would have jumped right in to interact with those critters.
For her, they were the best of friends.
“Night Lan… can I take them home? I really want to be friends with them.”
Star Sheng turned to Night Lan, her eyes full of pleading.
Although that expression was hard to resist, Night Lan shook her head.
“No way, they’re best off here; we can’t disrupt their lives.”
“Then can I stay here forever?”
“Nope, this isn’t a place for you to hang out.”
It was absolutely unrealistic to have a Star Eclipse who could cause significant changes to marine life lingering in one spot.
Even if Night Lan neutralized her own pollution, it might not be a good idea.
Who knows what odd things Star Sheng would do with her bizarre love for little animals?
After being turned down by Night Lan, Star Sheng quickly became disappointed.
Night Lan comfortingly ruffled her hair.
“Don’t be so down! The sea creatures are always here, and you can come back anytime to see them. They’re happy here; if you took them away, maybe they wouldn’t be so cheerful anymore.”
Night Lan spoke in a tone that felt like she was soothing a child.
Even if it was a load of nonsense, it was just the kind of reassurance Star Sheng needed.
After all, this Star Eclipse loli’s mental age wasn’t exactly high.
She could easily be treated like a little kid.
Star Sheng’s mood brightened quickly, her eyes filled with hope.
“Really, I can come back anytime?”
“Of course! Just tell me, and I’ll bring you back.”
“Okay!”
Then Night Lan and Star Sheng wandered around the enormous aquarium for a long time, enjoying many different kinds of marine life.
Star Sheng was very pleased throughout the process.
Although there weren’t as many friends here as she had seen in the ocean.
But after all this time…
She could only hide in the basement with her little fishbowl friends, and there were nowhere near as many as there were here.
The satisfaction from this contrast was enormous.
Hours passed before Night Lan finally led Star Sheng out of the aquarium.
This wasn’t Star Sheng’s decision to leave; it was Night Lan’s doing.
“Why can’t we stay a little longer? I want to chat with my friends…”
Her idea of chatting with friends involved staring at marine creatures behind a glass wall and babbling to them, which seemed pretty odd.
Star Eclipse’s mental issues were evidently common.
Night Lan chuckled softly.
“So, how was the aquarium trip this time?”
“Well… my friends are all ignoring me…”
Star Sheng sank back into disappointment.
Night Lan understood what she meant.
Before, Star Sheng would easily gather a crowd of aberrant sea creatures swirling around her in the ocean.
A ton of sea life revolved around her like she was their sun.
To her, that was a symbol of friendship.
However, in the aquarium, since Night Lan nullified her Star Eclipse pollution, she couldn’t distort or influence the creatures.
Without being affected by Star Sheng’s powers, those marine animals wouldn’t acknowledge an ordinary little girl at all.
The friendship that Star Sheng fantasized about simply didn’t exist.
Night Lan didn’t say it outright and kept her comments to a minimum.
“Let’s go to the next place.”
“Where to?”
“The zoo.”
“What’s that?”
“It’s a place with lots of land animals. You can look forward to it.”
However, this ocean city didn’t have a zoo.
That was only found in the continental area.
They just needed to take a sea train ride.
…
At the Night Watcher Base.
A group of watchers monitoring the live feed fell into deep thought.
“Is this just a fun trip to the aquarium?”
“Nothing happened at all.”
What surprised them even more was that the embodiment of the Ecological Distortion remained stable throughout.
No Star Eclipse pollution.
No Star Eclipse power.
No chaos in order whatsoever.
The black-haired girl seemed just like a regular child, enjoying everything the aquarium had to offer.
Her adorable, satisfied smile came through the monitor, causing the watchers to waver a bit.
“This… looks just like an ordinary little girl.”
“Could the Ecological Distortion be swapped out?”
“She’s too powerful! How did that black-haired loli manage this?”
The watchers were utterly shocked and grew curious about the black-haired loli in the footage.
Was this really from headquarters, the Sunlight team?
They were witnessing such an unprecedented way of executing a mission for the first time.
Who would have thought they would treat a Star Eclipse embodiment like an ordinary person, strolling around the aquarium hand-in-hand, completely fearless of Star Eclipse pollution?
Most Sunlight Night Watchers wouldn’t be able to pull off such a feat.
On the other side.
The leader of Pinghaishi continued to calmly watch the scene.
The two other Sunlight Night Watchers remained equally composed.
It was hard to believe that the seemingly normal blue-haired girl on the screen was the target they once sought to eliminate.
“Where are they heading next?”
As the route was clearly displayed, Night Lan and Star Sheng arrived at the sea train station.
This was likely to lead them to the continental area of Pinghaishi.
Even though there was a possibility that the embodiment of Ecological Distortion might come close to the ocean and create a bunch of aberrant sea creatures, the leader and the others had come to trust Night Lan after prior events.
Since her actions hadn’t caused any chaos, there was no reason to worry.
Moreover, the leader and his companions were curious about how the blue-haired girl’s story would unfold.
Not just them.
Every Night Watcher in Pinghaishi wanted to know how long this so-called Sunlight Night Watcher would maintain the status quo with this Star Eclipse.
Without a doubt.
This was truly the most highly anticipated and peculiar program in the history of Pinghaishi.
