Chapter 21: Don’t Ignore Me
Inside the shack.
Night Star, dressed in a shark pajama set, sat on the bed and turned her head away, ignoring the ghost girl waving in front of her.
This time, Night Star was really mad.
No one could soothe her.
“Ugh…”
Seeing Night Star sulking, Eypar realized she might have gone too far with her pranks.
“Night Star, I’m sorry, I was wrong. Can you forgive me?”
“Humph!” Night Star huffed, saying nothing.
Eypar floated to the side, trying to get Night Star’s attention.
But Night Star simply closed her eyes, pretending she didn’t exist.
Seeing this, Eypar was at a loss.
Her floppy head droop, lifeless.
“Um…”
Eypar attempted to touch Night Star but quickly retracted her hand when she remembered she’d just phase through.
Her grayish-white form slowly drifted back, finally lowering her head with fingers intertwined, silence filling the air.
“Eh?”
Night Star opened her eyes, surprised by Eypar crying. She was totally dumbfounded.
“What the heck is going on?”
Who was she? Where was she? What was she doing?
Night Star pondered existential questions.
Was she the reason behind Eypar’s tears?
That made no sense!
She had just been a bit upset and ignored Eypar briefly.
But why did Eypar look so heartbroken, so desperate?
Originally, Night Star just wanted to give Eypar a cold shoulder as a lesson. But now, it backfired badly.
“Guh~”
Regardless, Night Star wasn’t angry anymore. Now she had to figure out how to stop Eypar’s sobbing.
Whatever the case, Night Star still couldn’t change the fact that she made another girl cry.
“Don’t cry, I forgive you.”
“Really?”
Eypar sniffled, tear-stained eyes gazing at Night Star pitifully.
Why does a ghost even cry? So bizarre.
“You’re not mad anymore?”
“Maybe.”
“Won’t you speak to me again?”
“Uh-hum.”
“Are we friends?”
“Uh-hum.”
“Too good…” Eypar rejoiced with tears, wiping them with her tiny hand, her floppy hair regaining its vibrancy.
“I should’ve known,” Night Star sighed, feeling mentally drained.
Women are troublesome. Her other half—Night Lan—was better.
Eypar regained some spirit, though, a bit more subdued than before.
“Do you dislike my pranks?”
“Yeah, I’m pretty timid. Pranks like that scare me. Please, don’t do it so often.”
Night Star was the sort who cowered even at horror movies. Walking at night made her jump.
Eypar looked down, disheartened.
“I’m sorry…”
“Meh, keep your fun. Small pranks are fine; just not so often.”
“So you won’t be mad?” Eypar asked cautiously.
“That depends,” Night Star said confidently.
“Not fair…”
How could she continue pranking if unsure if Night Star would get mad?
If Night Star started ignoring her every time…
Eypar would definitely go insane.
“I promise, no more pranks then.”
“Right, that’s best. Just, don’t take it out on others,” Night Star nodded, satisfied.
The situation was:
Though the ghost girl Eypar seemed older, she was thoroughly dominated by Night Star. A scolding calmed her down.
Night Star rather liked this unique friend, aside from being a pretty cutie with a decent personality.
Even if annoying at times, she made for a great friend after conversations.
As for her prank-loving habit, it was mostly tolerable.
After her hair dried somewhat late at night, Eypar, like a guest staying overnight, floated silently beside Night Star, watching anime together.
They occasionally exchanged thoughts on the show’s plot, time flying by swiftly.
“It’s bedtime.”
After turning into a loli, Night Star rarely stayed up late.
With nothing much to do and loads of free time, nighttime meant sleep. Maintaining a healthy sleep cycle was important.
“Already?”
Eypar’s floppy hair twitched, puzzled.
She didn’t need sleep or rest, nor had a sense of time.
Only the company of Night Star mattered.
Eypar felt it wasn’t enough.
“Yeah, you don’t need sleep, so feel free to roam. Come back in the morning,” Night Star suggested.
“Okay…sure.”
Eypar left, passing through the wall as if she vanished.
Night Star yawned, already sleepy.
“Zzz~”
…
Time passed. Night Star fell into a peaceful slumber.
A ghostly silhouette returned to the room, black eyes watching over Night Star motionlessly.
Thus, the ghost girl Eypar kept vigil over the sleeping Night Star all night until dawn came.
