Chapter 60: Little Yu’s Misfortune
With the transfer order in hand, Xia Yu couldn’t wait to get out of that office! Snatching up two stacks of meal tickets, she left swiftly.
Watching Xia Yu leave, Wang Ruixue sipped his cup of tea, sighed deeply, and wondered why Xia Yu wasn’t a girl. That way, there wouldn’t be so many problems. Alas, such a pretty face wasted!
Back in class, Xia Yu remained silent, dividing her meal tickets into four portions and placing them on each group’s first table. She knew they would pass them around anyway.
As expected, the students at the first table took their meal tickets and passed them down, one table after another.
Xia Yu returned to her seat, picked up her new textbooks and exercise books, and started organizing and writing her name on them—the usual routine for any student.
Soon enough, the meal tickets reached her spot—just enough for her. No shortage, no excess.
Quickly, head teacher Wang Ruixue entered with the Chinese textbook in hand. His first lesson was, indeed, the beginning of the term’s first class, and he was their Chinese teacher.
Without further ado, after instructing the class to open their books, he began the first lesson. Known for being strict, the students listened obediently.
Naturally, Xia Yu was no exception.
This was Xia Yu’s first time attending grade five classes and starting directly from the second half of the year—thankfully, it was Chinese. She knew some basics, so she could understand it.
However, things took a turn for worse in the third period Math class, a subject heavily reliant on fundamentals. With Xia Yu missing an entire semester, she stood no chance of grasping much. Moreover, sitting alone now, she had no one to talk to, making it even harder.
Hence, when the third period ended, it was lunchtime.
When the bell rang, the students grabbed their utensils and dashed towards the cafeteria, only needing to bring their own bowls since the cafeteria provided them.
Boys formed two lines, girls two, given the limited number of students. Junior high would eat later.
Xia Yu maintained a moderate pace, securing a mid-front spot in one of the boy lines. But within a minute, the line stretched behind her endlessly…
“Little Yu, you’re just right here; make space for my brother.”
Upon hearing a familiar voice, Xia Yu noticed a familiar figure cutting in front of her, not only that, but bringing along a few friends to cut in as well…
That figure was none other than Xia Yu’s Older Brother, Xia Le. Seeing his older brother, Xia Yu felt a slight annoyance but dared not defy him, standing meekly at the back.
After getting her food, Xia Yu didn’t join her older brother and his mates like before. Instead, she found an empty spot, sat alone, and ate by herself.
Observing this, Xia Le’s friends couldn’t help but prod him, “Brother Le, your younger sister isn’t joining us? Isn’t she usually the one who enjoys sitting with us?”
“Dunno, doesn’t matter,” Xia Le responded nonchalantly.
