Chapter 11: The Lady Representative
“Wow~ Is this what high society looks like? It’s truly magnificent!”
Surrounded by many young nobles dressed in formal attire, all behaving gracefully as if they were cultured and civilized, radiating an extraordinary charm.
This was Night Lan’s first formal ball, so instead of diving right in, she hid in a corner, observing from the shadows like a true stealth master.
No one suspected that a little loli was sneaking around in this gathering of young aristocrats.
After enough observation, Night Lan felt ready to make her move.
“Hmm, time to start gathering intel.”
She mumbled to herself and began weaving through the crowd.
Most of the people here were in pairs or small groups, building their little cliques and expanding their social networks.
This was quite typical in high society, where solitary figures were as rare as a unicorn sighting.
Thanks to her Existence Interference, while she didn’t vanish from sight, people subconsciously overlooked her.
So, naturally, Night Lan was alone.
But that was just perfect for her to eavesdrop!
Now, she was the only one aimlessly wandering around the venue.
While it didn’t seem odd to an average person, others were staring at her like she was a glowing light bulb.
Even though Existence Interference was dimming her shine, a little bit of glow still leaked through.
Before long, someone approached her.
“Excuse me, miss, are you here alone?”
Night Lan stood frozen, staring wide-eyed at the figure before her, nearly unable to process it.
What the heck!?
Someone was actually striking up a conversation with her!
Hadn’t she just diminished her presence?
Under normal circumstances, she should’ve been ignored by everyone around her.
Night Lan forced herself to calm down, plastering on a graceful smile, trying to pass off her best impression.
“Did you notice me?”
The young noble flashed a charming smile, looking thoroughly polite.
“Of course! Your aura is incredibly striking; it’s hard not to notice you. Plus, you’re the only one alone nearby, which makes you even more eye-catching. Are you maybe a little insecure about your charm and aura, dear lady?”
Hearing this, Night Lan started to catch on.
Diminished presence didn’t mean total invisibility; she could still be noticed, just easily overlooked.
But this ball wasn’t a typical environment.
There weren’t too many people, mostly notable figures forming various small circles.
And while her presence was lowered, being alone at a ball was, ironically, a surefire way to increase it; it made her stick out like a sore thumb!
“Ugh, miscalculated.”
Night Lan quickly adjusted her demeanor and smiled again.
“Sorry for the concern, but you don’t have to worry about my situation.”
“Neglecting a solitary lady isn’t very gentlemanly. If you don’t mind, I’d be delighted to chat with you.”
Night Lan pondered for a moment.
Oh no.
This young man seemed to think she was a lonely noble girl being shunned!
And apparently, the gentlemanly charm was in full bloom at the moment.
A proper gentleman wouldn’t just ignore a ‘poor soul’ like her!
Now it was her turn to feel troubled.
How was she going to escape this mess?
Answers needed ASAP!
Then another figure approached.
“Excuse me, sir, can’t you see this young lady is distressed? Persisting with a troubled lady doesn’t fit the gentleman’s style either.”
The young man was slightly taken aback, revealing a contrite smile.
“My apologies, I didn’t realize your feelings, dear lady.”
“Ah… it’s fine, no need to apologize.”
The young man then turned and left, no longer pressing Night Lan.
“Phew~”
She let out a sigh, feeling the tension within her gradually fade away.
What would she have done if that guy had continued to bother her?
This was a significant ball gathering; she couldn’t just resort to drastic measures.
“Wait, there’s someone else to deal with…”
Night Lan quickly put two and two together.
Someone just stepped in to help her, and that person was still nearby.
She adjusted herself and turned to look at the figure beside her.
As soon as she saw her, Night Lan was momentarily stunned.
The girl had shimmering, wavy gold hair that glimmered under the light, and stunning blue eyes that seemed to hide a multitude of thoughts, radiating elegance.
She looked like the very definition of a noble lady!
“What a beautiful big sister…”

If you compared the other women at the ball to fireflies glowing in the night, the girl in front of Night Lan was the moon hanging high in the sky—totally a different level!
The golden-haired girl didn’t seem to notice Night Lan’s dazed expression and instead introduced herself.
“I’m Sharon, what’s your name?”
“I’m Night Lan.”
Night Lan instinctively replied, quickly realizing what had just happened.
Sharon?
That name rang a bell.
Night Lan recollected quickly!
Wasn’t she the renowned lady?
Ranked alongside Hughes, the famous gentleman, as the epitome of nobility!
She didn’t expect to bump into her so soon!
As Night Lan was deep in thought, Sharon continued, “Which family are you from? How come I’ve never seen you before?”
“I just returned from out of town; it’s no surprise you haven’t seen me,” Night Lan dodged the first part of Sharon’s question.
What did she even know about any family?
If she randomly answered, her cover would be blown in no time!
However, Sharon didn’t seem inclined to let Night Lan off that easily. Her keen intellect was more impressive than Night Lan had anticipated.
“You still haven’t answered my first question.”
Night Lan’s expression froze, her heart beginning to race.
Uh-oh!
If she couldn’t answer, she would definitely blow her cover!
And she couldn’t just say anything!
Who knew how aware Sharon was of the surrounding families?
Night Lan wasn’t a noble lady; she was merely a “commoner” who had slipped in!
Was this how she’d meet her end today?
No way~
Night Lan’s face twisted in anxiety, unable to respond to Sharon’s inquiry.
Sharon chuckled lightly but didn’t call over anyone to take this “suspect” away.
“Come on, let’s chat a bit.”
“Um…”
Night Lan could only obediently follow her, carefully observing Sharon’s delicate back.
Upon closer inspection, she sensed something strange.
Sharon didn’t seem ordinary; she was harboring a star within her, making her one of the Star Holders of this era.
With such a special power, she must be quite extraordinary herself.
No wonder she noticed me…
Night Lan was on high alert now and didn’t dare underestimate any Star Holder.
If anything went south, she’d have to use her Teleport to make a speedy exit.

After walking for a while, Night Lan and Sharon finally stopped at an empty balcony.
“You’re not one of the young nobles who received an invitation, are you?” Sharon asked directly.
Night Lan’s heart sank, an urge to run flooding her senses.
She couldn’t believe her disguise was seen through so quickly.
This girl was no ordinary competitor.
