Chapter 61: Little Yu’s School Life
This lifestyle, while a bit lonely, isn’t it just wonderfully free?
Xia Ling’s dining area was in the girls’ section, separated by the lunch line, so she didn’t notice Xia Yu’s situation. At that moment, she was too busy chatting happily with her close friends.
So, Xia Yu tackled lunch alone, then bravely took on the daunting task of washing dishes—all by herself! No more shamelessly bothering anyone; she was totally focused on doing her own thing.
After lunch, of course, it was time for a nap. But alas, that nap had to happen at school, and she’d have to wait until school let out to go home.
As for the dormitory, Xia Yu didn’t even need to think to know exactly where it was—it was her least favorite place in the whole school!
Why? Because the boys’ dormitory was transformed from two regular classrooms, and guess what? There were no metal bunk beds. Nope! The boys had to make do with flimsy synthetic boards just laid on concrete bricks.
And the worst part? This classroom was cramped with boys from three grades: one room for first to third graders, and another for fourth to sixth. Xia Yu absolutely loathed that setup!
When there are too many people, it naturally gets crowded, and especially in summer, the sweat—oh, don’t get her started on the smell! Even the teachers shied away, but not only that, they didn’t even allow students to leave. Mandatory napping in the stinky dorm—what a dream!
Xia Yu used to share a bed with her older brother, Xia Le, but now… who knew if her spot was even available. So, she had no plans to go back there for a nap.
That’s right! After eating, Xia Yu decided to stay in her classroom, rejecting the ridiculous idea of playing those silly boy games with her brother.
The junior high students quickly finished their lunches and, with the nap bell ringing, it was time for all students, both elementary and junior high, to march back to their respective dorms for some snooze time—under teacher supervision, of course.
Even though it was naptime, Xia Yu stubbornly remained in the classroom, not wanting to venture out. If she did, the teachers would catch her and force her back to the dorm.
Before long, she was the only one left in the classroom, and the absence of her classmates made Xia Yu feel a sudden jolt of anxiety.
Why? Because she was terrified of being discovered by a teacher!
Thus, she snatched a composition book from Xia Ling’s desk and grabbed a chair, positioning herself behind the door. This spot was a dead angle by the window; as long as a teacher didn’t waltz in, she could stay hidden.
Just as Xia Yu feared, around one o’clock, a teacher came to patrol the classroom to check if any students were slacking by not napping in the dorm.
This particular teacher was a bit lazy, so he just did a quick sweep of the room. His slothfulness allowed the anxious Xia Yu to escape detection.
So, Xia Yu sat there, bored out of her mind, flipping through the composition book. Suddenly, the dismissal bell rang! Finally, she dared to step outside… she had made it!
The afternoon lessons were only two: PE and math. After washing their faces, the fifth graders could head straight to the playground to get ready for gym class.
Xia Yu was no different. After taking care of her own “biological issues” in the restroom stall, she finally made her way to the playground to gather with her classmates.
