Chapter 63: Fed Up
Just as Xia Yu was secretly relieved that she might get away with not running laps, she suddenly heard Teacher Zhang Chao’s voice, “Now you girls go to the equipment room and bring out some stuff for fun. Don’t forget to grab some basketballs for the boys too.”
Hearing this, the girls marched off with laughter and chatter towards the equipment room.
As for Xia Yu, she was caught between staying and going. If she left, the girls would surely mock her. But if she stayed, Zhang Chao would give her a hard time for slacking off.
Just when Xia Yu was at a loss, her arm was yanked by a pull. She looked over and, much to her surprise, it was Xia Ling who was dragging her along.
Despite rumors about Xia Yu, Xia Ling’s bond with her remained unshaken. Why? Because Xia Ling knew Xia Yu had changed so much that there was no point in trying to take advantage of her.
So, Xia Yu went with the girls to the equipment room…
Sure enough, on their way, Xia Yu could hear some of her classmates’ snickering about her. But she paid them no mind. Xia Ling could hear the whispers too but what could she do? Challenge every single one of them? Nah, too troublesome. Besides, seeing Xia Yu’s nonchalant attitude, she decided not to dwell on it either.
Inside the equipment room, Xia Yu grabbed two inflated basketballs and left quickly. Compared to walking with the other girls, being alone felt much better.
Xia Yu ambled back to where everyone had gathered before, just as the boys finished their run and were catching their breath.
Seeing Xia Yu return, Zhang Chao said, “Alright, everyone can play whatever they want now.”
With that, Zhang Chao left for the comfort of his office, leaving Xia Yu standing alone.
Without hesitation, Xia Yu tossed the balls into the crowd of boys. Who got them was none of her business because… well, she was just the delivery girl.
Then, she found herself a spot and sat down, bored. It dawned on her how lonesome she felt. The boys wouldn’t let her join in, and the girls treated her the same. So here she was, all by herself.
She gazed at the clouds, lost in thought. When the bell rang signaling the end of class, the fifth graders began returning the sports equipment and headed back to their classrooms.
Sitting back at her desk inside the classroom, Xia Yu felt much more at peace. Perhaps it was the absence of UV rays?
After the last lessons and evening school dismissal, Xia Yu stuffed her homework into a bag, then walked out unbothered.
She knew Xia Ling had her own posse to hang out with, and Xia Yu wasn’t about to join in. As for Xia Le, despite having to stay in class longer after sixth-grade classes, Xia Yu didn’t wait for him either. After so many times of unrequited loyalty, she… just couldn’t be bothered anymore.
Yes, Xia Yu went home alone and fed up.
