Chapter 47: Let the Theater Collect Dust
The moment Night Star Lan saw the glowing orb, she hurriedly distanced herself.
“Eeeek! Take that thing away! I don’t want to turn into a Star Eclipse!”
Night Star Lan remembered clearly.
This orb could turn her into a Star Eclipse!
Just thinking about it freaked her out!
Wish Princess stared at Night Star Lan with a slightly exasperated look.
“What do you plan on doing?”
Night Star Lan pondered for a bit.
“What’s this thing mainly used for?”
Wish Princess started explaining in detail.
“This is half of the Origin of the Stars, but it turned into this form for unknown reasons. It has the potential to be revived. However, this part belongs to the Star Eclipses. I know there’s also the Star part out there. We won’t even mention the Star part whose whereabouts are unknown. The Star Eclipses part can be absorbed by the Star Eclipse Embodiment, boosting its level over Supernovas. It can also remove the inner obsessions of other first generation Star Eclipses, or even control lesser Star Eclipses below Supernovas. But of course, all these benefits only come into play if you fully master it. If you just put it aside, it might just turn into a dusty decoration that emits some kind of aura.”
After listening to Wish Princess’s detailed explanation, Night Star Lan fell into deep thought.
“Seems pretty powerful, but nah, let’s just leave it in the theater and gather dust. If someone like the Ballad Conductor gets their hands on it, I’d be in for a rough time.”
That thing made the Ballad Conductor incredibly troublesome, creating an enemy even she struggled to deal with.
If not for the final wish she tricked out of the Ballad Conductor, Night Star had no idea how to handle him.
She didn’t want to face another enemy as helpless as the Ballad Conductor.
It’s better to keep it somewhere safe.
Wish Princess held up the orb.
“You’re not putting it inside your body?”
“No way! It feels so scary! Stop shoving things into my body!”
Night Star Lan trembled with fear, looking pitifully scared.
This was the Origin of the Stars, possibly the final Big Bad.
If it suddenly decided to mess things up, even Wish Princess couldn’t handle it, and then what?
Night Star definitely didn’t want to have a ticking time bomb inside her.
“Just do something to it, though.”
“Uh…Wish Princess, could you make it stop emitting an aura? If it keeps radiating Origin energy, it’ll affect other Star Eclipses, right?”
“It does indeed. It’ll constantly attract Star Eclipse Embodiments to it. Without reaching Supernova levels, almost nothing can resist such temptation.”
Night Star Lan pondered again.
Actually, she did consider letting the troupe members use it.
But it’s still a ticking time bomb.
She had no clue what the Origin of the Stars really was, or what kind of character it had.
If it were to suddenly wake up and take over any troupe member permanently, that would be a disaster.
Ultimately, leaving it in the theater to gather dust seemed best.
Wish Princess then isolated the orb’s aura, fulfilling Night Star Lan’s wish.
Now, the orb just looked like a bright light source, not glaring at all, but giving off a mysterious glow.
Night Star Lan asked Wish Princess to carry the orb outside the theater, then used her “Flash” technique to arrive above the theater.
There were many beams above, and she could hang it here, adding more light to the theater.
This would decrease the creepy atmosphere significantly.
“Mmm, hanging it here should be fine.”
Night Star Lan nodded in satisfaction.
Then she noticed a tiny thing sitting on one of the beams next to her.
A gray pigeon!
Guqiu watched Night Star Lan curiously.
Night Star Lan quickly warned her.
“Guqiu, don’t touch that thing, okay?”
“Gu, is it french fries?”
“No.”
Guqiu immediately lost interest.
Wish Princess returned to Night Star Lan’s body.
One breath later, Night Star Lan was back on the ground.
“Everything is finally over…”
The Ballad Conductor was eliminated by Wish Princess’s correction power, hopefully not appearing in her face again.
Which was pretty great news.
But there was still something that bugged Night Star Lan.
Despite being able to tamper with Gentleman and Fraudster’s stories and taking their payments, she didn’t change the outcome, ending up with yet another tragedy.
That frustrated her immensely; she wished she could start over.
Even though she had boasted about her ability to rewrite tragic endings into happy ones, she really couldn’t change anything.
Especially since there was this huge misunderstanding involving Ulysses.
Night Star wanted to drag the Ballad Conductor out and beat him up.
As she felt gloomy, two figures emerged from the nearby shadows—Fraudster and Gentleman.
“Good morning, Audience Performer.”
“Looks like you’re not having a good day.”
Night Star turned and bowed apologetically.
“I’m sorry.”
Gentleman quickly came to her side, helping her stand straight again.
Fraudster gave a resigned smile.
“Actually, I owe you an apology. You don’t need to apologize to us. On the contrary, we should thank you.”
“What are you thanking me for? I didn’t do anything useful…”
Night felt somewhat dejected.
“It’s the past now. At least you helped us recall those moments and spend some enjoyable times together,” Gentleman comforted her.
“Mmm… Really, it’s okay?”
“Of course.”
“That’s a relief…”
Night Star took a long breath, her heart gradually relaxing.
They helped lighten her burden.
While she wasn’t completely satisfied, it seemed like the best solution.
Gentleman and Fraudster hadn’t changed their core, and seemed to be in much better shape than before.
Now they could continue with the troupe.
Too bad Sharon and the Cursed Bird had to stay in this era.
“Alright, Audience Performer, let’s prepare for today’s outdoor performance.”
“Okay.”
Night Star pushed away her complex thoughts and began making preparations with the troupe members.
Night Lan returned to the Night Watcher Base.
She had been away all night—she needed to report in or else she’d worry others.
Back to a normal routine.
No more bad-guy Star Eclipses like the Ballad Conductor.
Could feel a bit lighter now.
At the same time…
In Gaul Region.
Uncrowned Wanderer returned to his alternate dimension and sensed the situation there.
“Strangely, the Ballad Conductor’s aura has vanished.”
Logically speaking, once he entered his alternate dimension, he shouldn’t be able to leave without using Flash power.
Or perhaps…
something happened?
For Uncrowned Wanderer, the Ballad Conductor’s fate meant little, but the Origin of the Stars mattered.
The ball representing the Origin was gone now.
Whatever.
“Aside from the Eclipses, there’s still some Star fragment floating around. May as well k*ll some time and search for it…”
