Chapter 65

Chapter 65: Hopeless Little Yu

She grabbed the box of blades, pulled one out, and then tore open the oil paper wrapping. Thus, the sharp stainless steel blade appeared.

Staring at the blade in her hand, for some inexplicable reason, Xia Yu actually smiled with an unnamed emotion. She then placed the blade against her tender arm.

Swipe ~

Due to the fact that this stainless steel blade was already very sharp, even though Xia Yu hadn’t put much force into it, the blade still cut through her delicate skin, causing a deep wound and intense pain.

Bright red bl**d started pouring out profusely from the wound. But with her eyes lifeless, Xia Yu didn’t seem to pay much attention to it. Instead, she continued to place the blade on another part of her intact skin, continuing to hurt herself.

Until she had made four cuts, the pain growing stronger with each one, Xia Yu finally gradually came to her senses and stopped. However, rather than immediately find something to bandage her wounds, she directly placed them under the hot shower spray.

Watching the bright red bl**d from her skin get washed away by the scalding water, she felt an inexplicable sense of relief. This time, Xia Yu took a very long bath. She wasn’t sure how long, but since no one was rushing her, she just kept going until… the wounds had turned white and were no longer bleeding.

She put on her clothes and then put on a long coat. Now, no one could see her wounds. As for the blade she used to hurt herself, she didn’t throw it away but wrapped it up again and brought it back to her room.

She didn’t know why, but Xia Yu felt she might need it again in the future, so she kept it.

Her wet hair hung down. Since Xia Ling wasn’t back yet, Xia Yu didn’t dare go into her room to dry her hair or do anything else. She was afraid that if Xia Ling found something missing, she would blame Xia Yu.

Why did she think like that? Because when she was little, she had been through these things. She didn’t like the feeling of being misunderstood. Instead of gambling whether Xia Ling might accidentally lose something, she preferred not to go in. She was… truly scared.

Thus, Xia Yu sat in the living room on the second floor. While drying her hair with a towel, she watched TV, but the stinging pain in her hand kept reminding her that she was wounded.

Time passed quickly while watching TV. Soon, Xia Yu heard Grandpa and Grandma talking downstairs. It was a sign telling her it was time to make dinner.

Although her arm was injured, it didn’t hamper Xia Yu’s daily activities. So she acted as if nothing happened, cooked dinner for the whole family, and Xia Ling and Xia Yue got back on their own, so Xia Yu didn’t have to call them.

Seeing Xia Yu’s wet, long hair, Xia Ling knew she had taken a bath. But she was very unsatisfied that Xia Yu wasn’t wearing pretty women’s clothing.

Unsatisfied though she was, Xia Ling didn’t inquire right away, planning to do so upstairs later. She couldn’t quite explain why she felt Xia Yu was changing, seeming to become colder and colder. Tonight, she didn’t say a word at the dinner table.

After eating and washing dishes, Xia Yu went upstairs with her book bag, although reluctantly. Inside were her assignments, which wouldn’t be avoided.

As expected, Xia Ling was taking a bath upstairs, and Xia Yue was watching TV. Xia Yu remained silent, simply returning to her room with her book bag.

Flipping through her homework haphazardly, Xia Yu saw she didn’t know any of the questions, so she gave up altogether. What difference did it make anyway? No one would ever like or praise her; she already knew where she stood in class and at home.

But just as Xia Yu wanted to roll up her sleeve to check her wounds, a knock sounded on her door.

“Little sister, what are you doing in there? Hurry and open the door for your big sis!”

Since calling Xia Yu “little sister” a few times in front of adults, Xia Ling gradually became addicted to it. Whenever they weren’t outside, she called Xia Yu that.

Hearing Xia Ling’s voice, Xia Yu’s calm expression barely changed, but she got up to open the door. There was a set of women’s clothing inside that she still needed to return to Xia Ling.

When the door opened, Xia Ling originally intended to give Xia Yu a warm hug, but Xia Yu coldly eluded her: “Keep your clothes. I won’t wear them anymore.”

“Why? Don’t you fear I’ll tell Mom and Dad your secret?”

Thinking Xia Yu was joking, Xia Ling playfully threatened, but she wouldn’t tell the adults because she knew the seriousness of it.

Though Xia Ling was joking, Xia Yu took it seriously. Her previously calm eyes no longer remained calm; her reply carried a trembling and desperate tone: “I’ve known… If you’re going to tell them, just do it now. I’m tired.”

Saying so, Xia Yu immediately shoved all of Xia Ling’s women’s clothing back to her and forcibly pushed Xia Ling out of her room before slamming the door shut.

At this moment, a dazed Xia Ling, upon recollection, felt Xia Yu’s earlier attitude and tone indicated something serious.

Therefore, anxiously, she began knocking on Xia Yu’s door again, no longer daring to joke around: “Second brother, what’s wrong? Can you open the door?”

Listening to the loud knocks from Xia Ling, Xia Yu, whose heart was already desperate, ignored them. She continued to fall deeper into despair. Why her? Would she be better off dead?

Her eyes began to warm as tears flowed freely, despite her best efforts not to cry. Xia Ling’s pounding on the door was loud and it caught Xia Yue and Grandpa and Grandma’s attention. Soon enough, Xia Yue and the older couple heard Xia Ling ask, “Little Ling, what’s wrong? Did you need Xia Yu for something?”

“Oh? Nothing, everything’s fine~”

Xia Ling although not knowing what was happening to Xia Yu now, realized if Grandpa and Grandma came up, things might get worse. Xia Yu’s secret might be exposed, so she hurriedly tried to appease the elders.

Simultaneously, Xia Ling stopped knocking on Xia Yu’s door. She had tried many times without any result. Xia Yu would have opened it by now if she wanted to.

Disappointed, Xia Ling dejectedly took the clothes back to her room. She thought their relationship was improving, but now, it seemed the opposite was true.
