Chapter 17: Small Talk
On the rooftop.
Two young men faced each other.
What surprised Liu Ying Mo was that the seemingly normal black-haired youth suddenly exuded an aura of authority, looking like anything but a simple character.
Such an aura could not come from someone at the bottom level.
“Are you Sunlight from another city?”
Liu Ying Mo voiced this speculation with some uncertainty, not as dimwitted as one might think.
“Heh!”
Mo Tu chuckled.
“Isn’t it obvious? You’re not a fool; you’ve got potential.”
A corner of Liu Ying Mo’s mouth twitched, feeling quite bemused inside.
“You look so young and became Sunlight at such an early age.”
“Don’t you say the same thing? Talking about that has no point.”
“Not the same. I’m a Headquarters Sunlight, more valuable than a city-level one.”
“Haha, I’m also not just a city-level Sunlight.”
“I don’t believe you. Unless you introduce yourself, tell me your story and achievements.”
“Nah, I’m not the kind to boast about my feats.”
Mo Tu shrugged, not interested in bragging to Liu Ying Mo.
He was just trying to stay longer.
With wind, light, and quietness here, the atmosphere was nicer than the lounge.
Though divination isn’t limited by environment, Mo Tu preferred this place.
Liu Ying Mo sighed softly.
“Ah…”
If a Sunlight Night Watcher, especially such a young one, could understand his pressure.
City-level Sunlights usually didn’t stay long at the headquarters.
His presence here suggested a short business trip.
The only event for a Sunlight Night Watcher on a short business trip around this time would be something concerning the Hero Cemetery.
As a Sunlight Night Watcher, Liu Ying Mo naturally had access to such information.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t participate in the operation.
That was quite infuriating.
But it also showed his capabilities were lacking.
Hearing Liu Ying Mo’s sigh, Mo Tu stopped his divination and asked:
“Why sigh? A young person should have vigor.”
He actually wanted to chat just for fun since leaving the Rising Sun Theater Group.
Now he could only entertain himself.
“I’ve got a lot of pressure.”
“How much? Tell me and I’ll laugh.”
A corner of Liu Ying Mo’s mouth twitched once again, irritated by Mo Tu’s sarcastic tone.
Would talking about his troubles really be fine?
But Liu Ying Mo didn’t care too much about Mo Tu’s mockery.
“Just that people around me are much better than me, I’ve been stuck and become anxious.”
Among the young Sunlight Night Watchers at the headquarters, he wasn’t alone.
Several years ago, headquarters had significant changes, introducing young Sunlight Night Watchers.
Some were even younger and extraordinarily talented.
Comparatively, he felt quite ordinary.
Mo Tu soon understood the gist of it.
It was common for ambitious young people.
After all, he was only 19, also a prodigy. His peers were probably still in college.
Understood, both of them.
Mo Tu didn’t feel the need to console him.
They were Sunlight Night Watchers already.
If he needed guidance, that would be too weak.
Becoming enlightened oneself was most valuable.
This was a test.
Anxiety-prone people easily transformed negative emotions into Star Eclipses.
Overcoming them was key.
If Liu Ying Mo couldn’t overcome this, he wouldn’t be suited for his important position.
Silence fell between them momentarily.
“Do you think you’re my life coach?”
“By what right do you think that? Have some self-thoughts at your age. Are you truly the Capital City Sunlight?”
“Dang it.”
Liu Ying Mo felt oppressed by the doubt.
He always felt belittled.
If that black-haired youth weren’t a senior or a concealed strength Sunlight Night Watcher, Liu Ying Mo would have used utmost speed to give him a taste of “front running and soul chasing.”
Liu Ying Mo immediately shifted topics.
He feared being ruthlessly ridiculed if he grumbled further.
But small talk to relax was fine.
Distract oneself.
“Did you hear? A new Sunlight appeared at the headquarters recently.”
“Ha.”
Before Liu Ying Mo finished, Mo Tu laughed.
Everyone knew about the new Headquarters Sunlight.
That loli introduced herself like that too.
Liu Ying Mo actually wanted to discuss this topic.
“What are your thoughts on the new Headquarters Sunlight?” Mo Tu couldn’t help asking.
“Thoughts? At first, I didn’t believe it. Being a Headquarters Sunlight involves complex procedures; it can’t be secretly appointed. But when the Leader acknowledged it… I was dumbfounded.”
Thinking about it, Liu Ying Mo felt utterly frustrated.
“I assumed there were no younger Night Watchers, but Ye Lan changed my view. She’s just a teenager, around fourteen. Isn’t this heaven-defying? My mentality started cracking then.”
Liu Ying Mo couldn’t help covering his face, unable to accept the reality.
Clearly, he was thoroughly struck.
“Heh.”
Mo Tu patted his shoulder jovially.
This kid was certainly easy to strike down.
Quite a weak mental fortitude.
Yet, new bl**d brings high growth potential.
“Unconvinced? Want to challenge her, teach her a lesson, show her how intimidating seniors can be?”
Mo Tu tried to encourage him.
Liu Ying Mo’s lips twitched again.
“Not that bad, not that serious.”
“Huh?”
Mo Tu thought he discovered some giant backing for Ye Lan, like the Rising Sun Theater Group or the Headquarters Leader.
It wasn’t though.
“After displaying such miraculous power, how could I still be unconvinced? Converting Star Eclipses into human form, equivalent to resurrection, is vital for Night Watchers. If something happens to me and I turn into a Star Eclipse, I might ask her for help. Saying this is a defense mechanism.”
Liu Ying Mo, a common Night Watcher, knew his mindset was off.
Odds of transforming into a Star Eclipse were higher for him.
Thus, he naturally valued Ye Lan’s existence.
Chastise her?
Nah.
Pamper her while having spare time.
Everyone wanted a good relationship with her.
Looking for trouble with her—Sunlight or not, they’d be ripped apart by a mob.
“Gotcha.”
Mo Tu found it uninteresting.
Failed to troll.
Certainly dull.
But from Liu Ying Mo’s attitude, Ye Lan’s influence was undoubtedly high.
So quickly, even the Capital City Sunlights had her supporters.
If she continued this trend, who knew when she’d overshadow the Leader.
Mo Tu enjoyed such an amusing scenario.
Leader turning into a little loli, indeed fun.
This was merely wishful thinking.
Still, certain difficulties stood in the way.
Assuming Ye Lan had such intentions.
If she had no interest, all was well.
Otherwise, Leaders could change anytime.
