Chapter 67

Chapter 29 An Amateur Detective?

The night passed.

The next day came as normal.

Night Star woke up around nine in the morning, just like any other day, and greeted the ghost girl who had been staring at her all night.

Daily life went on unchanged.

It was three o’clock in the afternoon.

Night Star headed to the park and sat down where Lotus used to put on puppet shows, waiting for the little Puppet Master.

“Ugh…”

But despite waiting, Lotus didn’t show up.

An hour had already passed since she was supposed to arrive.

“Is Lotus not coming today?”

Night Star muttered, her tone tinged with disappointment.

Yet she was still willing to wait. She watched a video while she waited.

Another hour passed.

Dinnertime was approaching.

Night Star let out a sigh, stood up from the stairs, and straightened her dress.

“It looks like Lotus has something she needs to take care of today. Should I come back tomorrow or should I go to her place?”

Night Star leaned her chin onto her fist and pondered.

In fact, her steps were already moving toward Lotus’s house.

“Mm, I’ll go check on Lotus’s place.”

Without Lotus’s puppet shows, Night Star felt uneasy inside.

Isn’t visiting a friend under this pretext normal?

Not long after, Night Star arrived at Lotus’s villa and rang the doorbell.

Ding-dong~

“Hmm…”

Night Star anxiously waited, wondering who would open the door.

Was it Lotus’s father?

Or Lotus’s stepmother?

Or was it Lotus herself?

As long as she could see Lotus, that would be fine.

Click.

The door opened; it was Lotus’s father.

Night Star immediately bowed and said quickly, “Hello, sir, I’m looking for Lotus. Is she home?”

After a few seconds, Night Star received no response.

“Hmm?”

Night Star looked up, puzzled. Seeing Lotus’s father’s bloodshot eyes told her he hadn’t slept much, looking very tired.

“Lotus… she’s gone missing,” Lotus’s father said in a weary voice.

“Eh? What did you say?” Night Star was stunned.

“Lotus didn’t come back last night, and we can’t get in touch with her. We’ve already filed a report. You should go back now.”

“How can that be? She was with me just yesterday…”

Bam.

The door slammed shut.

Night Star stood there for a while, unable to process what was happening.

Why would Lotus disappear?

She seemed fine yesterday, eating snacks and chatting in the small room together.

Could something have happened on her way back?

After thinking about it, Night Star decided to head back, feeling extremely disheartened and worried about Lotus’s situation.

“Lotus…”

Just as Night Star was about to get home, she bumped into Mo Tu coming towards her.

“Night Star, what’s wrong? You look really upset.”

Night Star stopped, hesitated, then finally spoke out.

“My friend… she’s missing, and I’m very worried about her.”

Mo Tu frowned slightly.

“Is that the girl named Lotus?”

“Yeah…”

Receiving confirmation, Mo Tu tightened his grip, suddenly realizing things were getting out of control.

Destiny is indeed unpredictable.

Anything can happen under the shadow of destiny to disrupt the balance.

Plans can’t keep up with changes.

Yelan’s prophecy can’t be stopped, right?

Mo Tu’s mind ran through a thousand thoughts within a short time, analyzing a lot of information.

Since Ye Lan and Night Star arrived at this timeline, the future had already deviated from its original path.

Is it terrifying? Yes, it’s terrifying, especially for someone like Mo Tu who knows a lot of information—like everything got jumbled up for him.

Their arrival may have disrupted the wheels of history.

Supernova Star Eclipses was originally supposed to be discovered by Night Watchers later.

Mo Tu wasn’t supposed to come to Shanghe City early either.

And Night Star wasn’t even supposed to meet an Extraordinary Star Holder.

With these things getting turned upside down, the overall situation had become chaotic.

Mo Tu quickly used his divination abilities to gather more information, but when it came to Lotus, he failed entirely.

“Phew…”

Looking at the extremely worried Night Star standing in front of him, he said, “How about I go to her house with you?”

“Eh…?”

“I’ve read many detective stories; analysis and deduction are somewhat my specialty. If I find something important, I might help you find your friend.”

“Really?” Hope rekindled in Night Star’s eyes.

“Of course.”

“So let’s go!”

Night Star grabbed Mo Tu’s arm and pulled him away with incredible speed.

Mo Tu looked at the swiftly passing scenery and his lips twitched.

Night Star, running so fast that it surpasses the limits of a human body with someone else, is this really okay?

Or have you already ceased caring about hiding your non-ordinary identity?

In a moment, Mo Tu found himself in front of a villa, feeling a bit dizzy.

His spiritual energy was high, but physically, he was still ordinary.

“This is it?”

Mo Tu observed Night Star’s anxious look, choosing not to point out her abnormality and treating it as if it didn’t matter.

“Yes, this is my friend’s house.”

“Then let’s go.”

Mo Tu approached and rang the doorbell. Quickly, a man answered the door.

Still Lotus’s father.

Mo Tu kept a smile on.

“Sir, hello. I heard your daughter is missing, perhaps I can offer some help. What do you think?”

Lotus’s father, looking at Night Star beside him, asked, “Who are you?”

“I’m called Mo. Think of me as an amateur detective. While detectives don’t mean much in this era, I trust my abilities somewhat.”

“Detective?”

“Yep.” Mo nodded.

“Please come in then.”

Mo Tu and Night Star stepped inside the house.

Currently, there were two people in the house: Lotus’s father and her stepmother.

Night Star knew both.

As did Mo Tu, who knew them better from having read a lot of material.

The stepmother looked confused seeing someone unfamiliar at home.

“Dear, who is he?”

“He must be the detective Lotus’s friend brought over.”

“Detective? A detective in this age? How quaint.”

Mo Tu glanced at Lotus’s father and redirected his gaze toward her stepmother.

Compared to Lotus’s father’s obvious distress, the stepmother showed a worry which looked fake to Mo Tu—though she was pretending.

Mother-daughter bond isn’t strong, he thought.

Mo Tu narrowed his eyes slightly and smiled.

“Madam, greetings. Do you know where your daughter went?”

“How should I know? She didn’t come back home yesterday since leaving for a friend’s place.”

Night Star nodded, showing extreme concern.

“Yeah… Yesterday, Lotus did go to my place,” Mo Tu saw this, too. But around mealtime, she left.”

“Meaning she might have gotten into trouble on her way back? Hmm, hmm, I’m starting to understand everything.”

While Mo Tu said those words, his gaze remained fixed on a certain woman as he used his star powers.
