Chapter 69: Jumping Off the Building
Back at the upstairs, the somewhat weak Xia Yu immediately returned to her room and locked the door from inside. Only then did she feel a little bit of safety.
Without Xia Yu’s help with chores, Grandma had to take matters into her own hands. However, she was still quite upset.
As such, during dinner time, Grandma didn’t call for Xia Yu, and Xia Yu had no intention of coming down either. She continued to lock herself in her room, hurting herself, unbeknownst to anyone.
As for Xia Ling, after her bath, she originally wanted to talk to Xia Yu, but thinking about how Xia Yu had treated her yesterday and this morning, she… chickened out.
Yes, Xia Ling thought she would wait until Xia Yu was back to her old self before playing with her again, because this current Xia Yu was truly giving her some serious scares.
The next morning, Xia Yu got up at 5:30 AM. It being so early, her family hadn’t stirred yet, which was just fine with her.
Indeed, she didn’t want to see anyone or talk to anyone, especially not Grandma who had beaten her up yesterday.
Thus, in the dark, Xia Yu quietly opened the front door and left for school alone.
After catching some sleep, Xia Yu’s condition improved somewhat. At least, she was willing to go to school now, even if she remained silent.
It was early, and there weren’t many students on the road; most started their commute between six and six-thirty. So, on the way to school, Xia Yu was still alone.
Yet, walking quietly on that empty street didn’t bother Xia Yu; instead… she found it quite peaceful.
Upon reaching school and returning to her classroom, predictably, Xia Yu was the first student to arrive at the fifth-grade classroom. Sitting in the back row, she sat there silently as always, her thoughts and emotions unknown to others.
At breakfast time, Xia Yu didn’t eat anything, neither did she feel particularly hungry, despite not having eaten much last night.
So, Xia Yu sat quietly from dusk till dawn, never leaving her seat until class began.
Ding-dong, the bell rang.
For the first lesson, it was math teacher Zhang Chao’s class. The first thing he did upon entering wasn’t to teach, but rather walk straight over to Xia Yu’s seat, drag her up, and declare: “Get up, you don’t want my class? Fine, continue like yesterday and just leave, won’t be needing to come back.”
Saying this, the annoyed Zhang Chao gave Xia Yu a gentle push. The slight force almost made Xia Yu stumble, but she managed to stay upright without a word, seeming to have not spoken since the previous day.
Thus, under everyone’s watchful eyes, Xia Yu slowly walked out of the back door of the classroom. Xia Ling wanted to say something for Xia Yu, but seeing how Zhang Chao was not to be trifled with, the young girl… chickened out, fearing to provoke him.
Suddenly, the students in the classroom let out gasps. Why? Because they had been watching through the glass as Xia Yu left, and had witnessed her climbing over the fence as though to jump off the building—mind you, this was on the third floor.
Main character dies. Story ends.
