Chapter 42: Bright Prospects Ahead
Mo Rabbit certainly wasn’t going to drag Ye Xing into some sort of trap.
She had always been quite content with all the amusing things that came her way while tagging along with Ye Xing.
These little adventures added glittering stars to what was otherwise a dull life for her.
Back in the day,
With her divination abilities, she rarely encountered unexpected events.
Since she could foresee them, there was no sense of anticipation.
Sometimes, Mo Rabbit was grateful for her divination powers, and other times she resented them.
Grateful because it allowed her to foresee and avoid many potential troubles, yet resentful because it stole away the excitement of the unknown.
And due to her Night Watcher duties,
She couldn’t just do without it.
But everything started to change after she met Night Star Lan; her future became a tangled mess.
Divination wasn’t much help anymore.
This marked the start of something she called “the meta-decline.”
It basically meant that anything she followed Night Star Lan into would be way beyond her solving capacity.
No more trifles—these were now enormous challenges!
So far, Mo Rabbit had found it more than tolerable compared to her previous mundane existence, even if her presence always seemed to draw trouble to others.
For example, just seeing the humiliation of the First Generation Star Eclipses earlier—it made her feel like it was totally worth it.
That had its own peculiar meaning.
Only she knew the value of it, of course.
Sure, despite feeling gratitude toward Ye Xing, it didn’t mean she enjoyed being at the receiving end of trouble.
Using Ye Xing’s promotion as leverage without putting any effort into it? Impossible.
Think of an overly energetic Husky,
If kept constantly charged up, it’ll just mess around with home improvement projects.
But once you wear down that excess energy, it can finally rest.
Similarly,
Mo Rabbit figured it was best to use this approach with Night Star Lan.
Get her to deal with the Graveyard Star Eclipses and maybe her interest in tormenting the Announcer would wane.
Imagine that!
In turn, this would also greatly benefit Night Star Lan—it was a win-win situation, really.
Ye Xing had no idea Mo Rabbit was pondering such strange things, so he simply took a moment to think before concluding her words weren’t entirely off.
“Um, well then, I guess you’ve got your work cut out for you, Mo Rabbit,” Ye Xing said warmly, patting Mo Rabbit on the shoulder.
Where would you find such a reliable friend?
I’m crying!
“Not at all, it’s just part of what we do as part of the ensemble,” Mo Rabbit chimed in cheerfully.
Of course, it was a load of bull.
The only reason the Rising Sun Theater Group treated a special audience like the Audience Performer so oddly was because everyone fussed over her.
Despite being special, they could replace the Group Leader without much thought.
Everyone had to walk this tightrope.
Yan Jue yawned and returned the Telekinesis he traded for from the Graveyard Star Eclipses.
If it’s not meant to be his, back it goes.
“Alright, let’s sort out the follow-up plan. I just wished for a bunch of things and need to go back to sleep. Contact Ye Lan when you’re done, she’s heading back to the capital soon,” Ye Xing declared.
“Good luck, dear Audience Performer!”
“Ew, such a gross prefix,” Ye Xing remarked as he swiftly vanished through the Theater Door.
In the end, Mo Rabbit and Loti Shana were left alone.
Seeing the most dangerous one leave, Loti Shana bared her teeth at Mo Rabbit with a venomous glare, like a growling puppy.
“You vile humans!”
Mo Rabbit waved dismissively as if it was no big deal.
To her, Loti Shana was just another pet of Ye Xing’s.
If she was his pet, it was probably best not to provoke her.
“Come on, since you’re already past your prime, there’s nothing you can do about me. Why not think about how to turn things around, and if you don’t want to end up like the Ballad Conductor, seriously consider making a move.”
“Grrr~”
Loti Shana sat down, humiliated to her core.
The King’s authority should be inviolable!
That’s how it should be…
But deep down, she knew there was someone above the king.
The Origin of the Stars.
In the face of this greater power, the king was nothing.
Which then begs the question:
If this Origin-grade loli is considered significant, then what does it matter to submit to her?
Surrendering to her didn’t seem like such a disgrace after all…
Loti Shana sank into deep thought, perhaps subconsciously convincing herself to settle.
Seeing she was genuinely thinking about herself, Mo Rabbit decided to drop it.
With those thoughts aside, there were still important things to handle.
Silently spinning around, Mo Rabbit slipped away without disturbing Thoughtful Lotus, who was pondering life.
She returned to where Ye Xing and the Star Eclipses had been battling.
It was a total mess: a castle turned to rubble.
However, the damage wasn’t from Ye Xing but from those controlled by the Ultra Star Eclipses.
Look at the scene.
The devoured Star Eclipses seemed to have been regurgitated by a Devourer Star Eclipse somewhere.
All in all, there were a couple hundred Star Eclipses back to normal.
At least it wasn’t permanent.
Otherwise, things would be really scary.
Two figures approached Mo Rabbit, none other than Yan Jue and Fox Nine Song.
“How dare you control me so brutally? If I ever see that annoying Star Eclipse again, I’ll give her a good slap!” Yan Jue grumbled.
As a stubborn type, he was really irritated when manipulated against his will.
Especially when it went completely against his beliefs.
Just thinking about it made him feel like he was going to explode.
Then Mo Rabbit waved dismissively.
“Forget it, she’s already paid the price. And here you can’t beat her anyway, so why stress?”
Confused, Yan Jue remained puzzled.
Fox Nine Song chimed in coldly.
“Who was that girl just now?”
“That was Ye Lan.”
“Bullcrap! I remember she was clearly dark-haired and blue-eyed, but the girl who appeared just now had silver hair and red eyes. Did I suddenly go blind?” Yan Jue argued, emphasizing his clear memory.
Mo Rabbit glanced at him, speechless.
“She can still be considered Ye Lan, one holding the inexplicable stars. Does it really matter with ordinary people’s common sense anymore?”
“Guess not,” Yan Jue mused.
“With such power, overwhelming us single-handedly, I believe you. So when do we pledge our loyalty to her?”
Fox Nine Song also felt a bit dejected.
“Looks like she can get by even without my protection…”
“Stop making nonsense, you’re still pretty useful to her. Just support her,” Mo Rabbit comforted them.
Yan Jue shrugged it off.
The stronger his chosen one was, the brighter his future seemed.
Even as a Star Eclipse, he believed he could accomplish his obsessions.
“Enough chitchat. In short, how should we work together?”
