Chapter 70

Chapter 70: This Is Bad

Dong~

The muffled thud echoed back to the fifth-grade classroom on the third floor. Yes, that sound was Xia Yu hitting the ground. And this thud started to make Zhang Chao’s scalp tingle and regret kick in, because things had just gotten serious.

“Qui… quiet, no one is allowed to leave the classroom.”

This was Zhang Chao’s first encounter with such a situation, so when issuing the order, he ended up stammering from fear. But he didn’t care much about it; instead, he rushed straight into the corridor to check on Xia Yu’s condition below.

As expected, several teachers were already surrounding Xia Yu. The teacher’s office was right downstairs, and it was impossible for them to miss what happened, especially given how close they were to where Xia Yu landed.

Xia Yu hadn’t landed headfirst, so her brain wasn’t damaged by the force of the impact. Her head was probably okay—though her other body parts might not be as lucky.

Luckily, there was a rural clinic nearby, so the teachers called both the local doctor and the town hospital for an ambulance.

A rural clinic could handle minor illnesses and colds, but Xia Yu’s situation made them too nervous to take chances. They needed the local doctors to provide some initial emergency treatment before sending her off to the town hospital, which was about an hour away.

Despite Zhang Chao’s warning, the elementary school kids weren’t paying attention. After he left, they all gathered at the corridor to peek down, grateful they weren’t seeing anything too gruesome, or else it might give them nightmares.

Xia Ling was still sitting dazed at her desk, unable to process that her relative had jumped out the window.

Seeing this, each class’s homeroom teacher had to suspend classes and personally ensure no students went anywhere until Xia Yu was gone.

Minutes later, a couple of doctors in white coats arrived with a stretcher. They gently lifted the unconscious Xia Yu onto it and left.

When Xia Yu was carried away, homeroom teacher Wang Ruixue hurried back to the office to find Xia Yu’s records and contact her parents. Such incidents necessitated immediate parental involvement.

With Zhang Chao now pale, no one paid him any mind—including school leaders—since saving lives was their priority. They would deal with responsibility later.

The rural clinic had some basic medical equipment, like X-ray machines. Two white-coated doctors took X-rays of Xia Yu to assess any fractures—a necessary step since these images would be useful for the doctors coming from the town hospital.

Fortunately, Xia Yu’s condition wasn’t too dire. She somehow only broke her left arm and left leg from a three-story fall. Probably the left side hit the ground first.

Her internal injuries couldn’t be checked there, given the limited capabilities of the rural clinic.

After around half an hour, the town hospital’s ambulance arrived at the clinic. Xia Yu was then transferred to the hospital with only her homeroom teacher Wang Ruixue and a few doctors accompanying her.

As for Xia Yu’s grandfather and grandmother, they didn’t know about the incident promptly since their house used a landline. By the time someone drove to inform them, they finally learned what happened to Xia Yu.

At this very moment, in a grand mansion, a middle-aged man received a message from one of his subordinates posing as a teacher. He hastily gave orders to everyone in the boardroom: “We have our chance, President Peng. You must immediately send someone to xx Hospital to bring a student named Xia Yu to our hospital.”

He then made another call. If Xia Ling and Xia Le were present, they’d see his dad’s number on the phone.

P.S.: The middle-aged man is the Young Lady’s father.
