The 509th Wind Mist
Conquer the South Coast of the Sea, Kankdar.
“Control the murderer! Control the entire train! Don’t let any suspicious person escape!”
In the morning, within the Kankdar station, intense gunshots shattered the celebratory atmosphere, causing the audience to scream in panic and flee in all directions, creating chaos on the scene. Amidst this chaos, the city guards who were originally guarding the area rushed forward, attempting to control the murderer and the train. However, due to the chaotic pushing and shoving of the audience, it was difficult for the city guards to form their ranks. They managed to subdue the murderer quickly but found it challenging to control the entire train at once. Meanwhile, Dorothy realized she could no longer stay inside the carriage.
‘I need to get out of here… If I don’t leave now, I’ll be trapped on the train…’
Thinking this, Dorothy gathered all her belongings, wrapped her headscarf around her face, and hastily opened the door, stepping outside. She then knocked on the adjacent carriage door. After waiting for a moment, the door opened, revealing Nephnis, still in her sleepwear with sleepy eyes. Seeing the light outside, she first looked stunned before confirming Dorothy’s identity by the height and eye color of the tightly wrapped figure, and lazily said:
“Hmm… It’s Miss Dorothy… Why are you knocking so urgently? What’s going on outside? It sounds really noisy…”
“There’s no time to explain much, we need to get off the train right away!”
“Get off? Hmm… let me change my clothes.”
“No time! Just put on your robe, grab your luggage, and go! We don’t have time to waste!”
“Oh… okay…”
Hearing Dorothy’s urgent tone, Nephnis realized the seriousness of the situation. She immediately started to act, putting on her Northern Ufeiga cloak without changing out of her sleepwear and wearing her headscarf and face mask. As she picked up her luggage, Dorothy had already opened the carriage window and thrown out her own belongings.
“Jump out from here and follow me!”
Dorothy told Nephnis, then flipped out of the window herself. Nephnis nodded, threw her packed luggage out the window, and then followed suit.
After jumping out of the train, Dorothy immediately led Nephnis away. Under the cover of a small zombie puppet, she escaped unnoticed amidst the chaos. Due to the audience’s panic, the welcoming scene was already in disarray, and the guards were struggling to cope. Taking advantage of this, Dorothy guided Vania through the chaos, knowing that being controlled on the train would complicate matters during this suspicious assassination attempt.
During their escape, Dorothy continued to monitor the assassination scene. The attendant, who was executing the assassination, was held down by the guards, and Chid, who was caught by Vania, was also being restrained by more guards. Chid had lost consciousness and lay sprawled on the ground.
“What’s happening?! How can there still be an assassin?! Were those attendants possessed?”
Vania thought in shock, looking at the chaos before her. Then, she turned her gaze towards the scene under heavy guard where people had been shot. Her heart raced as she thought about the wounded.
“I must go treat the injured immediately!”
Vania thought urgently, but just as she prepared to abandon the restraint and rush to the VIPs to provide emergency care, the familiar voice of Dorothy echoed in her mind.
“Treatment? I understand, Miss Dorothy…”
Hearing Dorothy’s words, Vania immediately made some small gestures and then released Chid, who had already lost consciousness. Handing him over to the guards, she quickly approached the guarded VIPs.
“Please let me check on the injured! I can treat them!”
Vania said to the guard captain. The captain replied after looking at Vania.
“Thank you, Sister Vania, but there’s no need now. The city guards’ professional doctors have already begun treating Mr. Robert and others. The treatment is ongoing, so it’s best not to disturb the doctors. Sister Vania, please take a rest.”
The captain refused Vania’s request. Looking past the captain, Vania saw a wall of guards blocking everything behind him, with makeshift medical tents being set up. These guards had almost immediately taken control of the assassination scene, securing the area before anyone else could react.
“More hands mean more strength. Please let me join the medical team! I will only assist and won’t interfere with the main doctor’s work.”
Despite being rejected by the captain, Vania did not give up. She continued to plead, but this time, the captain’s response was firmer.
“No! This matter has been fully handed over to the Kankdar Guard. Sister Vania, you do not need to participate. Please take a rest. Our medical team includes excellent physicians born of the Path of the Holy Mother. You needn’t worry about the injured.”
Hearing the captain’s words, Vania was momentarily stunned. Her expression hardened, and she spoke slowly.
“If I insist on entering to treat them?”
“Then I will have to do my utmost to stop you. I’m sorry, it’s not that I don’t trust you, Sister Vania, but the assassins are people close to you. This is necessary precaution.”
The captain sternly stated. After saying this, he silently stared at Vania, his imposing presence spreading out. Feeling this, Vania felt a chill, realizing the extraordinary nature of the captain.
“This captain… is an Extraordinary Being, and of high rank. He should be a White Chalk…”
Seeing the captain and the guards standing around him, Vania felt a strong sense of intimidation. She realized she was facing a complete system safeguarding Kankdar’s secular and secret safety, with the captain and other Extraordinary Being guards, who were part of the legal law enforcement institution. Her envoy group’s guards had suffered heavy losses and had yet to recover. Alone, she couldn’t wrest control of the scene from the city guards, who were superior both in legitimacy and power. It was irrational to confront them now.
Seeing the situation, Vania frowned and stepped back. At this moment, Dorothy, who was trying to blend into the crowd with Nephnis to leave the scene, noticed Vania’s experience and felt something was amiss.
“There’s something fishy…”
With this thought, Dorothy immediately had her small zombie puppets fly towards the makeshift medical tents guarded by the city guards. However, as they approached, she noticed the rapid consumption of the “Shadow” within her Veil Ring, which seemed alarming.
“High-intensity detection of Extraordinary Beings!?”
Realizing the powerful detection abilities around the tent, Dorothy immediately stopped the small zombie puppets and hid in a concealed spot within the station. She took out a magic box and quickly retrieved an item from it—a test tube filled with a dark red liquid. Next, she took an ordinary iron ring from the box, slipped it onto the test tube, and stuffed a small piece of cloth between the ring and the glass, securing both. She then tossed the tube into the air, using her ability to make the iron ring hover and fly skyward.
At the assassination site, Vania was still confronting the captain. Seeing his refusal to let her pass, she had no choice but to wait. Meanwhile, a small object flew directly toward the scene, which was currently under guard. It was Dorothy’s test tube.
Using magnetic force, Dorothy guided the test tube to the edge of the detection range and then released control. The test tube, influenced by inertia, continued its trajectory, arcing downward toward the sealed-off area. Just as it was about to crash onto the ground, the captain, who had been engaged with Vania, noticed the test tube and quickly turned to sh**t at it. The test tube, flying at about four to five meters above the ground, was pierced mid-air and instantly burst.
As the test tube exploded, the dark red liquid inside transformed into a large cloud of dark red mist, suddenly bursting open in the low airspace, enveloping the entire scene, including Vania and the captain. Both were engulfed in a dark red haze, their vision severely obstructed.
“What… is this stuff?!”
The captain, surrounded by the dark red fog, looked around in surprise. Though he didn’t know what the substance was, he instinctively knew he needed to disperse it. The instant the fog began to spread, the captain pulled out a “Shadow” sigil and blew a gust of wind, hoping to clear it. But to his surprise, the wind only caused the dark red fog to swirl violently, showing no signs of dissipating. From the outside, the dark red fog resembled a constantly deforming, squirming gas slime, remaining stubbornly stationary despite the wind.
Worse still, someone shouted in standard Faraluo language, “Let the wind drive away the fog!” Other guards carrying wind summoning sigils also used them, causing gusts of wind from various directions to converge. Different currents clashed within the sealed-off area, creating turbulent winds that forced people to squint. Combined with the red fog, the scene became even more chaotic.
Meanwhile, Vania immediately recognized the fog upon sensing it. She had seen this substance when fighting Claudius in the underground ruins of Saint Crown University. This bl**d mist had both concealment and healing properties—it was a product of the Eight Pinnacle Nest!
The wind failed to disperse the fog; instead, it caused discomfort among the guards and others behind the human wall. Some couldn’t even keep their eyes open. The combination of the dark red fog and the strong winds created chaos throughout the sealed-off area. During this chaos, several agonized cries emerged from within the sealed zone. Hearing these sounds, Vania wanted to rush to help immediately, but a familiar voice echoed in her mind, causing her to look to her right. She then saw an object breaking through the dense fog, flying straight towards her. Grabbing it, she examined it closely and discovered it was a classical bird-mask respirator used by doctors in this world.
Without hesitation, Vania put on the bird-mask respirator. Its protective effect against wind and gas allowed her better mobility in the chaotic environment, preventing her from being blinded by the turbulence. She then braved the wind and bl**d mist, rushing forward. The captain, who was severely distracted, did not notice her movement and failed to interrupt her.
Entering the sealed-off area, Vania quickly located the source of the cries. Approaching closely, she found two nobles, a lady and a gentleman, clutching their wounds in agony. Around them, the medical team was disoriented by the bl**d mist and the wind. Near the injured, there were broken bottles and syringes.
Seeing this scene, Vania tore off a piece of cloth, soaked it in the liquid from one of the broken bottles, and quickly carried the two injured individuals out of the sealed area. Guided by her inner voice, she navigated through the chaotic environment, finding the correct path. She could feel countless figures trying to shout and pursue her, but her full-speed running made it impossible for them to catch up. Soon, the pursuers were lost in the chaos.
Shortly after, Vania burst out of the chaotic area ravaged by bl**d mist and wind, reaching the gathering place of the frightened audience in the station. In front of everyone, she placed the two injured individuals on the ground and began diagnosing them, starting her full effort to treat them.
Not long after the diagnosis, Vania discovered something unusual about the patients. Their symptoms seemed not solely caused by the gunshot wounds. Using her ability, she confirmed that besides the gunshot injuries, another factor was threatening their lives—poison…
On these two patients, Vania sensed a potent poison that had nearly spread throughout their bodies. Such a poison was extremely potent and could end a normal life in moments. Given the extent of the spread, they should have died long ago.
Their survival until now was due to the strong life-sustaining effects inherent in the bl**d mist. This was a means developed by the Eight Pinnacle Nest for its senior officials to survive critical moments, considering various fatal factors. For ordinary people, this was more than enough to sustain life.
