Chapter 73: Severe Depression
The old man spent hours conducting a detailed psychological examination on Xia Yu, who was very cooperative because there was no point in arguing over a million dollars and she figured a mental check-up was part of the deal.
As a result, the outcome of each examination was not good, because the combination pointed to Xia Yu suffering from severe depression, which made it no surprise that the kid tried to jump off a building.
Right away, Jiang Bin told Xia Yu’s father, Xia Hong, about Xia Yu’s depression because he thought Xia Hong should know and hoped at least one of the parents would come back to be with their poor child.
However, when it came to the experiments involving Xia Yu, Jiang Bin kept quiet because he wasn’t sure if the parents might cause trouble later on. So, after finding out Xia Yu’s identity hadn’t been exposed, he altered her medical records to show she was a boy to continue the cover-up—little details like the name tag on the hospital bed and such.
Despite this, Xia Yu’s dedicated nurses knew the cute patient was actually a girl; they just didn’t know why their boss went through all this trouble.
That night, Xia Yu was wheeled into an operating room for a thorough set of tests since the equipment was more advanced, like bl**d tests and X-rays. The urgency was due to Jiang Bin knowing Xia Yu’s mother, Wang Wenjuan, was starting her journey home by car and might arrive the next day, so the testing had to be rushed.
Fortunately, with her heart already broken, Xia Yu didn’t care what time the tests took place.
She cooperated fully with all the checks and was then returned to her room by the nurse sisters.
At the same time, the test results for Xia Yu came in—they were nothing out of the ordinary for a regular girl, meaning T Doctor’s experiment was a success.
But unknown to Jiang Bin and company, T Doctor had already known this. His only regret was unable to share this success with the world.
The results were written down on a single piece of paper to prevent any leaks, knowing such information could greatly affect Xia Yu.
So, Jiang Bin rushed through the night carrying the investigative materials to T Doctor’s tombstone to burn them as per his father’s request, since T Doctor and his father were close friends. They wouldn’t use cruel methods like taking the Young Lady hostage or conducting human experiments.
In the afternoon, Xia Yu’s mother, Wang Wenjuan, finally arrived with Xia Ling to take care of Xia Yu. Xia Ling had insisted, refusing to listen otherwise.
But when they saw Xia Yu in bed, the sparkle in her eyes—the lively glint of the past year’s Spring Festival—was gone. Now her eyes were filled with dark, dead energy, as if she had given up on life altogether.
Just as they were about to open the door, the elderly psychologist who accompanied them stopped them: “Do you know how the child is inside?”
“Yes.”
“What condition?”
Seeing the different reactions from Wang Wenjuan and Xia Ling, the old man sighed and then carefully explained again: “The child suffers from severe depression. It’s good if you can be supportive, but don’t say anything that could trigger her. What words might trigger her? As family, you should know better than I do.”
