### Chapter 74: Pros and Cons
As for what kind of words would be stimulating, both Wang Wenjuan and Xia Ling were a bit fuzzy on the matter. At this moment, they realized that they truly didn’t understand Xia Yu that well. As close relatives, they felt like they had failed in their roles.
So, Wang Wenjuan frankly expressed her doubts, admitting her shortcomings: “Doctor, what exactly are the stimulating words?”
Hearing this, the elderly doctor didn’t say anything sarcastic; instead, he held back his urge to roll his eyes and answered her earnestly, “It’s about the patient’s impulsive behavior right now. Don’t worry about that for the time being since the patient’s condition is unstable. What’s most important now is showing the patient some care. I believe that’s what the patient needs at the moment.”
Listening to this, Wang Wenjuan nodded dazedly: “Okay, I understand.”
“Alright, go ahead and enter now. I won’t interrupt anymore,” the doctor said, then turned and left.
Wang Wenjuan and Xia Ling opened the door to Xia Yu’s room, only to see Xia Yu staring blankly out the window, lost in thought. She seemed almost frighteningly calm.
Seeing Xia Yu like that, Wang Wenjuan suddenly didn’t know where to begin when she wanted to offer some comforting words; she was afraid that any word might trigger her. How could a child who seemed fine just a few days ago have turned out like this?
Finally, Wang Wenjuan managed to stutter some caring words: “Xia Yu, how are you feeling?”
Hearing this, Xia Yu slowly looked toward her mother, then averted her gaze and answered hoarsely, “I’m fine~”
“Are you hungry? Mom will go get you something to eat.”
…
Wang Wenjuan talked with Xia Yu for a long while. It was noon, and surely it was time to eat. Adults can hold off, but Xia Yu and Xia Ling still needed food for their growing bodies.
But as Wang Wenjuan prepared to head out to buy lunch for Xia Yu and Xia Ling, the door to the hospital room suddenly flung open, and a nurse pushed in a food cart, cheerfully announcing, “Little sister, I brought you some food!”
At the same time, Xia Hong received an enormous transfer from Jiang Bin. This made him nervous, unsure if the money was coming from somewhere shady. After all, you don’t accept gifts unless they’re deserved.
So, Xia Hong immediately called Jiang Bin to ask for clarification. Otherwise, he wasn’t sure he could accept such a large sum. The amount was just too big.
When Jiang Bin heard Xia Hong’s inquiry, he was not surprised. So, he half-jokingly replied, “Mr. Xia Hong, do you remember the kidnapping incident of your son six months ago? Let’s be straight. Those kidnappers were actually my family. They acted impulsively, so think of the medical expenses for your son and the million you got as compensation. I hope you won’t pursue legal action.”
“Is this money a sort of payoff?”
“Sure, you can think of it that way. So think carefully, do you want to take this money and live peacefully, or do you want to call the cops? You must realize that my connections mean there are people everywhere, and if this comes out, the money would be gone anyway. I just don’t want any trouble.”
Under the lures and threats from the seasoned Jiang Bin, after weighing the pros and cons, Xia Hong reluctantly agreed to Jiang Bin’s terms.
After all, Xia Yu was already back, just with mental issues. Xia Hong considered it safer not to stir up trouble. There was no point in getting into a conflict over money. Why not accept this compensation and improve the family’s living conditions by buying a house or car?
Little did Xia Hong know that the responsibility Jiang Bin mentioned involved everything, including what happened to Xia Yu. He could have jumped ship, but if they really went public, Xia Yu might end up with first or second-grade disability. Either way, Jiang Bin would owe more.
“If we’re set, I’ll send you a contract later for you to sign. Plus, I’ll take care of the medications and treatments for your son’s future. Is that okay?”
“No problem.”
