### Chapter 38: Eating Your Tribute
“Sometime, I’ll wish you turn into a girl…” Night Lan muttered to herself.
“Uh…”
Mo Tu’s smile froze, realizing this loli had an incredible star.
If she got angry, something weird might really happen.
“Cough, cough. No way, Nightmaster, stars aren’t used like that.”
“What do you mean?”
“You need to use them for good, not let your emotions control them…”
Mo Tu played the role of a mentor, imparting life lessons to Night Lan.
But he was the worst possible Night Watcher to lecture someone about it.
He often used stars just to have fun, using divination for gossip and looking for thrills.
For instance, he’d make comfy hideouts with charts so nobody could find him.
Or use star charts to locate secrets, turning cities into his personal playground.
In short, he was the most incompetent “Sunlight”-ranked Night Watcher.
“Stop.”
Night Lan cut off Mo Tu mid-sermon, her face full of suspicion.
“Why do you keep trying to fool me?”
“Hmm… what should we eat later?”
“Your ability to dodge the issue is awful!”
“Let’s talk about something else. Oh, where’s Night Star?”
This time, Mo Tu successfully dodged the conversation.
“Heh, she’s on her way here. Couldn’t go out there anyway. Better to hang out at the base than stay home.”
As she spoke, Night Lan’s expression turned gloomy.
“And you said you’d help me, but didn’t leave any contact info, and you’re not even around. Are you messing with me?”
“Ah, I forgot. But Mo Tu didn’t appear the least bit guilty.”
“Hey, you’re doing this on purpose!”
“Come on, what should we eat later?”
“Eat your tribute.”
“Hehe. You’re such a joker.”
…
On another side.
Mo Yu finally dragged Night Star to the Night Watcher Base after much effort.
During this, he kept using illusions to escape everyone’s notice.
But this wasn’t the end.
Mo Yu met a Night Watcher affected by the Supernova Star Eclipses on the way back.
Mo Yu beat him up and took him to the base as well.
At the entrance.
Yao Can was waiting there after receiving Mo Yu’s message, exuding a chilling aura.
“…”
Mo Yu carried a person nonchalantly. He placed him down in front of Yao Can.
“Boss, I’m back.”
“Yeah.”
Yao Can crouched down, patting the Night Watcher brought back by Mo Yu.
“Wake up.”
“This hurts… feels like someone hit me.”
After a while, the Night Watcher slowly opened his eyes and saw a terrifying, empty-eyed stare.
“Omigosh!”
The Night Watcher sat bolt upright, barely alive.
“What’s the ruckus? How do you feel?” Yao Can looked exceptionally cold.
“Boss?”
Seeing it was his boss, the Night Watcher quickly calmed down.
“No issues.”
“Then go rest. We’ll assign you training after the event ends.”
“Huh?”
The Night Watcher’s face instantly fell.
Yao Can stood up, not paying attention anymore.
Next, Mo Yu approached, saying, “Boss, I noticed the Night Watcher controlled by Star Eclipses normalized back at the base. It must be due to our defense field. Do we need to carry a small device for operations?”
“Not useful. Supernova Star Eclipses aren’t that simple. Our defense field isn’t just about one Sunlight-ranked Night Watcher.”
Yao Can clearly observed everything.
He could see Mo Tu’s Threading Heaven Cavern, and the fine threads on the Night Watcher before.
Someone’s mini-Threading Heaven Cavern was much smaller than the base’s defense field.
When the controlled Night Watcher passed through, the threads only broke when passing through the cavern entrance.
If the city was like a puppet master’s stage, the watch base now seemed like a forced spectator seat by Mo Tu — a safe house.
They were tough as nails, if uncommunicative.
“But enough of that. Who’s with you?”
Yao Can squinted at Mo Yu’s familiar petite form.
Night Star gathered the courage to greet the scary, dead-eyed guy.
“Er… hi…”
Mo Yu was puzzled, “This is Night Lan, Boss. Didn’t recognize her just because of a color change?”
“Oh? Then who was the girl I asked Lanfeng Suyu to hand over earlier?”
“Huh?” Now Mo Yu was baffled.
Both stared at an awkward Night Star waiting for explanation.
Night Star blinked, “Um, hi, I’m Night Lan’s sister—Night Star. Nice to meet you…”
Yao Can: “?”
Mo Yu: “?”
…
Meanwhile.
Night Lan, eating noodles with Mo Tu, suddenly looked embarrassed. The delicious stewed meat noodle went untouched.
“Mmph…”
Mo Tu noticed her unease, “What’s wrong?”
“Night Star came to the base and ran into a scary, dead-eyed boss. I don’t know how to explain it.”
“That’s easy. Just make up a reason.” Mo Tu slurped through his noodles as if it had nothing to do with him.
“Mm, it would be embarrassing.”
“Hilarious,” Mo Tu chuckled, then stood up, “I’ll handle it for you.”
“Mmph, thanks.”
Back to Yao Can’s perspective.
Yao Can glared coldly at the silver-haired loli, his bl**d pressure soaring.
“Why was I unaware of this information?”
“I know nothing…” Night Star tried to evade Yao Can’s piercing gaze, feeling increasingly awkward.
Yao Can’s lip twitched; his bl**d pressure spiked.
If this Breakthrough Star carrier had a sister, they too could very likely possess Breakthrough Stars, which was vital intel. Yet this black-haired loli kept silent, suggesting intentional omission. If something went wrong, it would be irreversible.
Just then, a black-haired man strolled over, smiling brightly.
“Well, fancy meeting you again. Let me take care of this kid. You go rest; no need to worry about these matters.”
Night Star looked like she saw a savior; her eyes lit up.
Yao Can glanced at Mo Tu, “You knew all along?”
“Yeah, I’ve been protecting her from the shadows. She’s a friend of Lotus Flower, the cause of the Star Eclipses. Important to the situation. Leave it to me.”
“Tsk.” Yao Can stared directly at Mo Tu, “How many more things haven’t you said?”
“Does it matter?”
“Do I have the right to know?”
“Mmph…” Night Star was terrified.
That dead-eyed guy oozed such intimidating vibes you could easily scare a wicked dog.
But Mo Tu remained unperturbed, standing in front of Yao Can under this pressure.
“You don’t need to know so much. I’ll guarantee this Star Eclipse incident ends within a week. Can we stop probing Yun Chang City’s secrets?”
Mo Tu smiled, but his eyes held no warmth.
