Chapter 78: Who to Snuggle With?
Since Xia Yu was sick, she didn’t have to do the dishes after dinner. Xia Le took care of everything without any fuss.
That’s because during the time when Xia Yu and Xia Ling were away, all the housework had fallen on Xia Le’s shoulders. And today was no exception.
Moreover, at dinner, Xia Yu and Xia Ling were both called upstairs by their mother, Wang Wenjuan, leaving Xia Le with no choice but to wash the dishes and utensils.
Meanwhile, as they climbed upstairs, Wang Wenjuan suddenly asked Xia Yu, “Little Yu, are you planning to sleep with your little sister or me tonight?”
“Can’t I just sleep alone?” Xia Yu weakly countered.
“No way, Little Yu. We don’t want you doing anything silly,” Wang Wenjuan said firmly.
Indeed, Wang Wenjuan was worried that if Xia Yu slept alone, she might do something reckless. After all, the scars on Xia Yu’s wrist were already noticed. She couldn’t bear for this to happen again.
Why not let Xia Yu sleep with Xia Le? That would be a foolish idea, as Xia Le’s hot temper could make things worse. Plus, Xia Yu wouldn’t dare bully Xia Ling in her current state.
Hearing her mom, Xia Yu understood there was no room for discussion.
Without much hesitation, she replied, “I’ll sleep with Xiao Ling.”
Of course, that was Xia Yu’s decision. If she slept with her mom, her secret would surely come out. With Xiao Ling knowing her secrets, sleeping together seemed like a better option.
Wang Wenjuan wasn’t surprised by this answer. Kids grow up and might not want to share beds with their parents anymore. But she still reminded Xia Ling, “Well, you used to really want to sleep with Xiao Yu. Now your wish has come true, so take good care of her, okay?”
“Got it~”
Xia Ling responded cheerfully. She had always wanted to sleep together with Xia Yu, and now she finally could do so without any guilt.
And so, the sleeping arrangements were settled.
Suddenly, Xia Yu felt something odd and grabbed her crutches to head to the bathroom. But upon seeing the squat toilet, she froze in frustration.
The family toilet lacked anything fancy compared to the hospital ones, leaving Xia Yu struggling with her injured leg wrapped in a cast. How was she supposed to squat down?
After hesitating, Xia Yu looked at her plastered leg and mustered the courage to give it a try, knowing there wasn’t much else she could do.
She started slowly lowering herself, leaning heavily on her right foot to ease the pressure on her injured leg. Despite the difficulty, she managed to complete her business without falling over. But her left foot ached and tingled from the strain.
(Don’t try this at home. The author made it up.)
Later, Xia Yu, Xia Ling, and their mom spent some quality time watching TV because Wang Wenjuan took a long leave due to Xia Yu’s condition. Thankfully, her boss was understanding. Hence, Wang Wenjuan was able to spend more time at home with the kids.
With the new car and house, the pressure to work hard was greatly reduced.
Naturally, it was all thanks to Xia Yu. Her kidnapping led to a hefty payoff, though at the price of her mental health.
Wang Wenjuan believed the main cause was the trauma from being kidnapped.
Xia Le, who was outside playing and having fun, came back to find that his mom and sisters had taken over the TV. Feeling embarrassed, he returned to his room to play mobile games.
Soon, it was 9:30 PM, and Wang Wenjuan, as a responsible parent, insisted, “Xiao Yu, Xiao Ling, it’s time for bed. It isn’t good for kids to stay up late.”
Seeing no other option, Xia Yu and Xia Ling obediently got ready for bed. Although Xia Yu hadn’t bathed in a while, she didn’t smell bad. This was partly due to her diligent cooperation in the hospital and the effectiveness of her medication, which was odorless and helped her feel better quickly.
Wealth certainly did buy comfort.
Though Xia Yu had tough braces on her limbs, she otherwise smelled fresh. This made Xia Ling hesitant about hugging her.
After a moment’s reflection, Xia Ling summoned her courage and asked, “Um… Second Brother, can I give you a hug?”
“Why?”
Xia Yu didn’t outright reject Xia Ling’s request but responded with a question.
“Because… because I just want to hug you! Can I or not?”
Surprised by Xia Ling’s response, Xia Yu didn’t refuse, “Sure~”
While Xia Yu didn’t love herself, she loved her family with her whole heart.
Overjoyed by Xia Yu’s consent, Xia Ling embraced her with all her might.
Seeing Xia Yu jump from the rooftop had scared Xia Ling immensely. She was glad she could finally hold her dear sister close.
It was said that twins share a special bond. Xia Ling felt terrible for not sensing Xia Yu’s pain better. If only she could understand her pain, perhaps she would know how to help her.
