Chapter 8: Ultra-Speed B
After White Paint left the trio, she returned to the medical department.
There was someone very important to her in the ward area.
With practiced ease, she found the room and gently pressed the doorbell.
“Come in,” a warm voice replied.
The door opened, and White Paint strolled in.
As soon as she entered, she saw a petite girl sitting on the bed. Her skin was unusually pale, almost sickly so, but somehow it added to her beauty.
She had beautiful, voluminous wavy short hair and striking silver-gray eyes.
At that moment, she was looking back at White Paint with a gentle smile on her lips.
It was the kind of smile that made one feel warm, yet this smile seemed fragile, like glass—seemingly strong but deeply vulnerable.
Seeing her, White Paint finally broke into a smile.
“How have you been, White Fish?”
“Big sister, I’m doing great! Don’t worry about me.”
“Is that so? That’s a relief.”
White Paint sat beside her bed and stroked her head.
This was her little sister, just like Night Lan, another adorable child.
Then she looked around the room and noticed a high-end portable gaming device on the table. Even lying down, one could enjoy many games if they were alert.
“Did you get into gaming recently?”
White Fish nodded with a smile.
“Yeah, since I can’t go out, I play games here all the time. It turns out to be quite fun. Plus, I’ve found a great gaming buddy. Playing with him makes me really happy!”
From the look of it, she was genuinely happy, showing no sign of bad mood.
White Paint’s eyes softened as she said, “That’s good, but don’t overdo it or it might harm your health. Remember to take it easy.”
“Makes sense. Big sister can be a bit naggy sometimes.”
White Fish pouted slightly, as if she were a bit annoyed, but it looked staged.
Seeing her cute expression, White Paint couldn’t help but pinch her baby face lightly, as if to infuse her with some cheer.
“Stay happy, okay?”
“Uh-huh, because big sister is here, I’m super happy now. Plus, every day I keep myself cheerful, playing games with friends and discovering fun things online. I won’t let anything bring me down. Even if my time runs out, I’ll depart with the best smile—a dream of mine!”
Hearing these words, White Paint hugged her and gently nuzzled her face.
“I’ve found hope. When I bring you a miracle, okay?”
White Fish was taken aback for a moment, then she lightly hugged White Paint back, revealing a gentle smile.
“Okay… I’ll wait.”
…
On the other side:
Cai Xun and Bu Jie had brought Night Lan to the registration point.
“Hey, new guy, we got a new addition to our family—come on over.”
After Bu Jie’s call, the staff member who checked the newcomers quickly arrived.
“Who’s joining?”
“Here she is, this little loli.”
Cai Xun gently pushed Night Lan to the front.
Night Lan started feeling nervous. It felt just like her first job interview—a real heartstopper!
Previously, she only talked with Cai Xun and Bu Jie because they didn’t seem proper, more clownish.
But the staff member looked extremely serious!
He scrutinized Night Lan closely, looking surprised.
Night Lan waved a little, saying hello.
“Hi…”
“Uh-huh.”
He nodded and then looked at Cai Xun and Bu Jie.
“What’s the reason for joining?”
“She’s recommended by a senior. No issues!”
Bu Jie pointed to himself proudly.
The staff member started processing, checking Cai Xun’s and Bu Jie’s records. Once he found nothing wrong, he searched for Night Lan’s information.
However, after facial scan, he failed to find any information on Night Lan.
“What’s going on?”
“Oh, sorry, she’s a blacklisted one. Likely because of family reasons; she wasn’t registered when born. Dunno specifics, just assign her an ID card and it’s done,” Cai Xun added.
The staff member nodded, continuing, “What special abilities does her ‘Star’ have?”
Without hesitation, Cai Xun answered, “Rapid run.” He then looked at Night Lan, asking, “Right?”
Night Lan nodded quickly, like a bobbing chicken, “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”
Actually, she was still nervous. She’d transformed from a grown man into two little lolis, and being fast was just a bonus.
But she didn’t dare say that out loud.
It would be socially mortifying!
If people knew she was once a handsome guy but could quickly adapt as a loli, that would be beyond embarrassing!
Just as Night Lan kept her head low, trying to act deaf, the staff member came over with what looked like a belt.
“Put this on and run around this area at full speed to test your top speed.”
“Okay.”
She obediently put it on and prepared herself.
“Now start?”
“Begins!”
Hardly had the words left his mouth when Night Lan shot off like a rocket, leaving a gust of wind.
After reaching her maximum speed, she slowly slowed down and stopped in front of them, panting a bit.
“Whew.”
The staff member checked the data on the projection screen and concluded, “Super-Speed B. Decent data.”
Now Night Lan was confused.
“What is that?”
Cai Xun replied, “It’s how abilities are classified into tiers. In speed there’s ‘Speed ABC,’ which is normal. Beyond that, we use ‘Super-Speed ABC’. Same applies to strength: ‘Strength ABC’ and ‘Super-Strength ABC’. And in terms of mental power, it isn’t as complex—it’s simply ‘Mental Power ABC’ for those with Stars. Understand?”
Night Lan nodded with a light bulb moment, “Got it.”
Further tests yielded these results:
Super-Speed B, Strength C, Mental Power C.
While her speed stood out, everything else was within newbie standards.
But her strength surprised Cai Xun and Bu Jie.
Considering standard adult male criteria, having such physical strength as a teen loli was impressive.
Moreover, she had no visible muscles at all.
Probably due to her Star?
Only after the data was filed did Night Lan officially become a Night Watcher.
“All set. If anything changes come back here for updates. Otherwise, you’re free to leave.”
“Hooray!”
