Chapter 81

Chapter 81: Time to Take Off the Plaster!

A week flew by quickly, and before we knew it, it was time for Xia Yu to take off her plaster—both on her foot and hand. At last, she could get rid of these hard things that were so uncomfortable to sleep in.

It’s just a small matter, really; Xia Yu didn’t need her family to go through the hassle of taking her to the hospital where she originally received treatment. She could easily do it at the school clinic, where the doctors still knew how to do it.

And so, after breakfast, Wang Wenjuan took Xia Yu to the clinic, while Xia Ling had long since gone to school.

Upon arriving, Xia Yu saw it was busy inside—the clinic was filled with parents bringing their kids in for IV treatments, probably for colds or fevers. Xia Yu’s arrival naturally drew attention from the doctors and some parents since she looked quite pitiful in her plaster.

Either it was because the doctors were too busy to notice or because the parents’ eyes were too piercing—a sudden thought struck Xia Yu—maybe she should come back when the doctors weren’t so busy.

However, she didn’t voice this thought; instead, she felt her words were choked as if seized by an invisible hand. Wang Wenjuan had already arranged everything with the clinic’s doctors, so they needed only to wait.

Silently, Xia Yu followed her mother into the clinic until the doctor arrived to take off the plaster.

If Xia Yu’s condition had slightly improved at home, now it seemed it had returned to square one. She barely wanted to talk to anyone and wished to leave this crowded place. She hated those pitying looks people gave her. But there was no avoiding it; the plaster had to be removed, whether she liked it or not.

Fortunately, a white-coated aunt approached Xia Yu, carrying plaster-removing tools. This must be the doctor.

The small clinic, built next to the school, was well-known in the village. Anyone sick would head here for treatment. Over time, everyone became familiar.

Xia Yu was no exception; she always got treated here when sick. The aunt knew this child well. Most memorably, she remembered Xia Yu’s previous s*icide attempt. She didn’t know why the child did such things but felt for her deeply.

Traditionally, the doctor joked around with Xia Yu to lighten the mood, noticing Xia Yu’s wrist bracelet… Suddenly, the doctor’s smile froze.

Yes, the doctor knew Xia Yu’s situation—no wonder she’d jumped.

Removing the plaster didn’t take long, but Xia Yu still couldn’t walk normally after removing it. A period of adaptation was necessary.

After all, her leg hadn’t been used for a while.

Recovery times vary for everyone, and since Xia Yu is young, she should bounce back fairly quickly.

Seeing Xia Yu wasn’t enjoying her stay, Wang Wenjuan didn’t chat more with the doctor. After putting on the brought shoes, she hurriedly left the clinic, leaving Xia Yu with a lingering weakness in her other foot.

Feeling helpless, Xia Yu still hobbled along with crutches. Perhaps within a few days, she could finally shed them.

Instead of going home right away, Wang Wenjuan took Xia Yu to the school. As a mother, she wanted to check out her daughter’s dormitory—whether it was comfortable.

So, at the school, Wang Wenjuan found Wang Ruixue, who was grading papers in the office: “Teacher, you said you arranged a dorm for Xia Yu, right? Can we see it now?”

Wang Ruixue, eagerly hoping Xia Yu would return to school soon to dispel rumors, couldn’t refuse. Otherwise, if the reputation suffered, the new school year’s enrollment might decline.

“Sure, sure! When did you remove the plaster? Xia Yu looks more spirited already.”

Faced with Wang Ruixue’s teasing, Xia Yu didn’t know what to say but preferred not to speak outside.

But her mother spoke up: “She just had the plaster taken off today. Her leg isn’t fully healed yet. We’ll wait until it’s better before returning to school.”

“Take your time, don’t rush!”

Though she may have been thinking otherwise, Wang Ruixue smiled and started leading them to the dorm. “Come, this will be Xia Yu’s new dorm, and she’ll surely sleep well here.”

Fortunately, classes hadn’t ended, so the campus had no students around, averting curious stares.

After all, Xia Yu’s incident had caused quite a stir.

As Wang Ruixue led the way, Xia Yu vaguely sensed something; were they really going to put her in that place?

In fact, Xia Yu wasn’t far wrong. Wang Ruixue actually brought her to a girls’ dormitory building, up several floors…

Finally, at the stairwell halfway up the second floor, Wang Ruixue stopped: “We can’t put boys in this dorm anymore. Girls only from now on. This will be your single-room dorm. You’re okay with that, right?”

He opened the door, showing Wang Wenjuan and Xia Yu the room.

Single? Hearing this, Wang Wenjuan frowned. She worried Xia Yu might do something drastic alone.

So she asked directly: “Can Little Ling move here too? I’d feel safer with both of them staying here.”
