Chapter 30: Severing
The dream world dissipates.
Nene, Xiao Meng, Chenxi, and Yu Xi return to the side of Yez Sky and Kaguha.
“Hey, Dummy, are we really cool with going this hard? I mean, even an S-Rank Mist-Hidden Beast would be dead-dead if it took a hit like that. We were just supposed to half-k*ll the guy!”
Yez Sky isn’t too worried.
“He should be fine. According to Yez Star Lan, Star Eclipse Embodiment isn’t easy to k*ll, especially when he’s fused with Kuro. He’s supposedly got some kind of ‘immortality.’ It may not be possible to k*ll him with normal means,” Yez Sky reasons.
Yez Sky remembers a previous battle against an immortal S-Rank Mist-Hidden Beast. She had to go through a grueling fight until she understood new powers to finish it off.
Now, Yez Sky has a “purge power” that could k*ll anyone no matter how many times they come back to life. But she promised Yez Star only to half-k*ll the Group Leader and bring him back alive.
Cutting him directly would be overkill.
Yez Sky has plenty of ways to deal with the Group Leader, but most won’t work. The Group Leader’s spiritual contamination doesn’t affect her much either. She’s immune to mind games in any condition.
Soon, everyone’s eyes follow where the Group Leader stood. Hikage shares his soul senses with each of them, keeping them informed of every detail in real-time.
The Group Leader slowly stands up as if he hasn’t been hurt at all. No, scratch that. He must have reassembled after being destroyed, making him seem unhurt. That’s Kuro giving him immortality.
“Incredible! Truly incredible! After hearing the response from the river of time, I now understand all your identities. You were once the stars of a grand drama. I admire you and am glad you returned to the stage. Thank you for inviting me to participate as well. Now, let me recreate that theater!”
With a radiant smile, the Group Leader opens his arms. The mysterious forces kick in.
Night Sky quickly realizes something alarming.
The sealing ability didn’t work!
The Group Leader’s Time-Space powers are back!
He smirks maniacally as Kuro’s powers start shining through.
“Then let me invite another protagonist. Only then will this drama be truly splendid!”
A massive rift appears in the sky, almost filling it completely.
Endless fog pours out, polluting the pure land below.
“Wooooooah!”
The unearthly howl hits Night Sky and the others, causing headaches and dizziness.
Night Sky stares in disbelief at the gigantic creature descending from the rift.
“F*cking hell! Origin of Mist!? Playing big time?”
She finally realizes the enormity of the spatial and temporal abilities.
Combining time and space can open up historical channels to summon old threats like the Origin of Mist.
This thing could pollute the entire world with its powers. Previous Mist-Hidden Beasts were basically extensions of the Origin of Mist!
Unbelievably, this disaster-source has returned. And it seems fully operational!
“This cannot get more unreasonable!”
Night Sky clenches her teeth and looks at the others, including Hikage.
“It’s time to get serious. Let’s try to one-hit destroy this monster. It can’t be left to corrupt the world again!”
Hikage nods along with the others.
Night Sky steps forward, rising into the air, dual blades merging, spirit energy boiling.
The last time she defeated the Origin of Mist, it wasn’t a cakewalk. It cost a fortune, even sacrificing a seer for the victory. But with their growing understanding of their unique powers, they’ve reached the max level in their respective fields.
If they time traveled back, dealing with the Origin of Mist would be much easier. Fewer sacrifices would be needed.
But that was the past.
Now, the Origin of Mist has returned. Night Sky wants to try one-shot-destroying it!
Hikage uses her [Dominion of the Soul] to connect the six souls on the scene, extracting everyone else’s spiritual energy for Night Sky.
She won’t need the others anymore.
“One shot.”
Night Sky breathes out, her gaze becoming clear as powerful spirit energy concentrates.
“Time to bite the dust.”
Next, she just needs to swing one final strike—a concept-breaking slash.
This move isn’t showy, just a fatal precision.
Breaking a concept requires considerable spiritual energy.
Night Sky once severed space concepts, temporarily neutralizing space abilities.
But this was temporary.
Now, she aims to permanently sever a concept, rendering it impossible to exist.
And her enhanced S+ spirit energy is enough.
She gazes at the Origin of Mist, locking onto the “Mist Concealment” concept, before lightly swinging her blade.
Ding!
Suddenly, the fog pouring out of the rift freezes in mid-air. The vast form of the Origin of Mist stiffens, as if time has stopped.
Night Sky waits only briefly.
Those fog particles slowly dissolve, carrying the Origin of Mist away, eventually fading into oblivion.
All things relating to “Mist Concealment” disappear, including its specific name in everyone’s memories.
Night Sky lands smoothly and coldly locks onto the Group Leader, raising her blade.
Mission accomplished.
Realizing the grave threat, the Group Leader instantly escapes using his time-space powers.
But Night Sky has locked onto that concept, ensuring it’s unevadable.
Night Sky simply swings her blade.
No words.
The Group Leader vanishes, having escaped before the permanent severing of time-space concepts could affect him.
She sheathes her blade and yawns, feeling sleepy.
“Aww… Guess it’s up to Yez Star Lan and the others now. I’ve handled the tricky time-space stuff; they’re free from most trouble.”
She only sealed off the Group Leader’s spatial powers, not affecting global time and space concepts.
Otherwise, it might have caused irreversible world-end game.
That means the Group Leader can no longer use those powers regardless of methods he employs.
Night Sky and company feel exhausted.
Killing a pseudo-god is spiritually taxing. Adding permanent conceptual severances doesn’t help.
Sadly, the Group Leader used his remaining time-space power and fled.
If he hadn’t, they could have brought him back half-dead for Yez Star Lan.
Ah well, better let them handle their own mess.
Night Sky reckons she’s done enough.
