Chapter 85: Dinner Time
How long they had been driving, Xia Yu didn’t know. She only knew that they had started in the afternoon and it was now evening. By then, her mother should have noticed her absence. She hoped her family wasn’t worried about her.
However, Xia Yu knew this hope was futile. After all, who doesn’t love their own children? This was also the source of her greatest guilt; she felt like she was causing more trouble for her family.
In reality, things were exactly as Xia Yu imagined. After Xia Yu was kidnapped, Wang Wenjuan searched with Xia Le and Xia Ling multiple times. Eventually, they ran out of options and had to ask the supermarket staff for help by using a loudspeaker to search for people and checking the surveillance footage.
What they discovered was shocking. With the time frame provided by Wang Wenjuan, the staff soon found Xia Yu’s surveillance footage. Initially, Xia Yu was walking with Xia Le, but then… Xia Le pushed the cart away first.
Seeing this, Wang Wenjuan immediately realized Xia Le had been lying all along. However, at that moment, she had no time to deal with Xia Le; finding Xia Yu was the priority.
The staff then followed Xia Yu through the surveillance footage until she walked out of the door. At that point, they paused their work and told Wang Wenjuan, “Madam, your child is not in the supermarket anymore; she has left.”
Hearing this, Wang Wenjuan felt a pang of disappointment. But since the footage was right there, she could only leave and look for Xia Yu.
Just then, a group of people dressed in suits and wearing sunglasses quickly rushed into the surveillance room. Leading them was a younger woman.
“There was a kidnapping at the entrance just after one-thirty PM. Find it quickly,” ordered ZHAO WEI, sounding rather authoritative.
Perhaps due to the commanding tone of ZHAO WEI, the staff suddenly complied: “Ah? Oh, just give me a moment.”
With this information, Wang Wenjuan was no longer eager to leave. She watched as the staff reviewed the surveillance footage.
Sure enough, the worst possible scenario unfolded. Xia Yu, who had already left the surveillance area, came back, and then… was abducted by an adult man.
After this happened, ZHAO WEI issued another command: “That’s him. Extract the video to this USB drive.”
ZHAO WEI handed over a USB stick and the staff eagerly got to copying the video as fast as they could. Clearly, they didn’t dare to be uncooperative with ZHAO WEI standing there with a bunch of tough-looking men beside her.
After watching the entire process, Wang Wenjuan mustered up the courage and said to ZHAO WEI, “Miss, the person kidnapped in the video is my son. Do you know who that man is?”
Looking at the two children next to her, Wang Wenjuan, ZHAO WEI asked cautiously, “Are you Xia Yu’s family?”
“Yes, yes! I’m his sister. You know my second brother, right? Please help us!”
Before Wang Wenjuan could respond, Xia Ling eagerly answered, making ZHAO WEI hear genuine concern in her voice.
“Of course I know him. I was the one who brought Xia Yu back to your village last time,” ZHAO WEI replied.
“Really? So that kind heart in Xia Yu’s story is actually you. What should we do now? Should we call the police?” Wang Wenjuan was startled, then anxious.
“There’s no need to rush to the police. My lady has also been kidnapped by them, and we are looking for her. You can go home and wait for news. When we rescue her, I will bring her back.”
With that, ZHAO WEI took the USB stick from the staff and left, clearly busy and uninterested in chatting more.
“Mum, what do we do now?” Xia Ling asked her mom, who was still staring at where ZHAO WEI had gone.
Realizing how much her children depended on her, Wang Wenjuan sighed deeply and quietly said, “Let’s go home.”
Indeed, Wang Wenjuan was terrified—terrified of losing another child. Even if it meant her mother-in-law would scold her, she had to go home and call the police.
Wang Wenjuan couldn’t hide her worry for Xia Yu, knowing she was her flesh and bl**d. But she had to keep strong; she had two more children who needed her.
So, Wang Wenjuan brought Xia Le and Xia Ling back home.
Meanwhile, one of the kidnappers packed three boxes of takeout and bought three bottles of water, returning to the car. One was for himself, another for the other kidnapper, and the third was for Xia Yu and the lady they were holding hostage.
It was a reward for their good behavior today. The two young girls wouldn’t eat much anyway, so one box of food was plenty.
The miss did not complain, accepting the takeout and water silently.
She opened the takeaway, which contained one meat and one vegetable dish. Of course, she didn’t expect much from these kidnappers, but anything was better than nothing.
Jiang Kekai nudged Xia Yu, who was still staring out the window, lost in thought. Suddenly, she seemed completely different, full of energy.
“Xia Yu, are you hungry? Want to eat?” Jiang Kekai asked.
Xia Yu shook her head, indicating clearly that she didn’t want to eat.
“What about some water? Your lips are dry; you must be thirsty.”
Jiang Kekai handed Xia Yu the water bottle. This time, Xia Yu didn’t refuse but placed the bottle between her legs and used her right hand to open it and take a few sips, probably because she was really thirsty.
Watching Xia Yu, Jiang Kekai seemed like a curious child, asking endless questions, and not taking the kidnappers seriously at all.
“Why aren’t you using your left hand? Is your left hand injured?”
Xia Yu placed the water down and nodded, indicating yes, but she really didn’t want to talk.
Jiang Kekai, now satisfied with her answer, opened her own box and began eating, not caring at all if it was roadside takeaway.
You see, Jiang Kekai may be a young lady, but she loved sneaking out and eating what her family considered junk food. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been caught so easily.
But Jiang Miss never learned her lesson.
