Chapter 87

Chapter 87: Saved

Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai had no clue where these kidnappers were taking them, but as they gazed out the window, the scenery became increasingly desolate.

Slowly, they realized that they had been taken off the road and brought to an open, barren wasteland with no cover at all.

These two kidnappers had been super cautious—deadly cautious—to avoid being ambushed by the police or cornered by the Jiang family. So they had carefully chosen this open space where they could make a quick getaway if things went south.

And with such a wide-open field, their chances of escape were pretty good.

Soon enough, Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai spotted two dark dots in the distance. As the dots grew larger, they finally made out two small cars: one fancy and the other more plain.

The kidnappers parked across from the two cars.

Then, the kidnappers each drew their pistols and commanded Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai to get out of the car. As if that wasn’t enough, they now had a g*n pointed at each of their heads.

Being led to the back of the car, Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai finally discovered that the owners of the two small cars waiting for them were their parents.

“Not only one, but both of you? What gives?”

The kidnappers, who were holding Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai, were none too pleased about Jiang Bin’s lack of adherence to their agreement, but they needed the cash.

“They’re the parents of the person you guys have kidnapped. Is it so wrong for them to see their children?”

Jiang Bin was confronting the kidnappers, undaunted—after all, he had faced far scarier situations as a tycoon.

The kidnappers breathed a sigh of relief; at least these weren’t undercover cops.

It was time for the exchange. The kidnappers asked for a ransom of ten million yuan for Little Miss Jiang, who was certainly worth every penny.

Jiang Bin, keeping his promise, opened the trunk of his car and pulled out two handheld briefcases—one for each of them, each containing a million in cash. He started walking towards the kidnappers with the briefcases.

Yet, paranoid as these kidnappers were, they weren’t about to let Jiang Bin near. Despite him being only a tycoon, he was also known for his past as an MUSA national martial arts champion…

So the kidnappers halted his progress and said, “Hold it, don’t come any closer. Go back to your car and open the cases for us to check.”

Jiang Bin, reluctantly, returned to his car, opened the cases, and showed the kidnappers stacks of cash—not a counterfeit in sight.

Though he wouldn’t stoop to cheating, the money wasn’t an issue for someone like him. And he couldn’t bear to risk his daughter’s safety.

After confirming the cash, Jiang Bin placed the cases on the ground, then retrieved more briefcases until he had ten. That made up the ten million yuan.

“Hey, go grab those cases over there, will ya?”

The kidnapper holding Xia Yu gave her a nudge, clearly intending for her to do the heavy lifting. The adults weren’t about to risk getting close.

Grimly, Xia Yu began moving the briefcases that Jiang Bin had set down.

“Don’t be scared, kid,” Jiang Bin encouraged her when she bent down to lift a case.

As for Xia Yu’s parents, Wang Wenjuan remained in the car. Xia Hong didn’t want her to get out either. For one, he feared the kidnappers might start shooting, and for another, he worried Wang Wenjuan would try to snatch Xia Yu back, messing up their plan.

A briefcase filled with cash weighed around thirty-five pounds. Jiang Bin could probably carry two easily, but Xia Yu could only manage one at a time, especially with her leg still recovering.

Seeing how slow she was, the kidnappers got impatient and urged her on: “Come on, hurry up!”

Despite their impatience, Xia Yu was struggling with the physical effort. Drenched in sweat, she finally carried all ten cases to the car.

That done, the kidnappers held up their end of the bargain, releasing Jiang the Young Miss. Xia Yu, however, was still their hostage. They were too paranoid about possible pursuit to let her go.

Thus, Xia Yu was pushed back into the car. The kidnappers drove off, leaving a message, “Relax, we’ll release her once we’re safe. Don’t bother chasing us.”

However, halfway through their escape, exactly after half an hour of driving, a sudden tire explosion rang out, whether due to normal wear or gunfire.

This heightened the kidnappers’ vigilance again, “You stay here, I’ll check it out.”

The kidnapper in the passenger seat whipped out his g*n, aiming it at Xia Yu and gesturing for her to join him outside, just in case.

The driver continued to scan the road ahead.

The flat tire was towards the rear, a clear stretch with no one around; the coast seemed clear. The kidnapper pointing the g*n at Xia Yu relaxed slightly, particularly when he crouched to inspect the tire, even lowering his weapon momentarily.

But then, the distant sound of a silencer broke the silence, and Xia Yu’s captor dropped to the ground, dead.

Boom!

Another noise echoed, and Xia Yu heard the front windshield shatter. Clearly, the other kidnapper had met the same fate.

Xia Yu had witnessed such scenes before when she’d been rescued. She remained calm then, and now she was eerily quiet, her thoughts a mystery.

Thankfully, Xia Yu managed to keep her condition under control this time.
