Chapter 88

Chapter 88: Things Come to an End

After a while, two yellow figures moved in the distance and headed straight toward Xia Yu. They even had guns on their backs, probably the same ones who had just fired.

Xia Yu calmly watched as they approached; she didn’t move, perhaps too stunned to react.

Though Xia Yu wasn’t sure if those two yellow-outfitted men were good or bad, she stayed rooted to the spot, watching everything with calm serenity.

Fortunately, those wearing yellow uniforms were indeed not bad people.

As they approached Xia Yu, they immediately began comforting her: “Little girl, are you okay? The bad guys have already been knocked out by the uncles.”

Then, to avoid frightening Xia Yu with the kidnappers’ bodies, they took off their uniforms and covered the corpses with them.

Once the uniforms were off, their flower-patterned camouflage military suits became visible. Their identities were obvious—Chinese soldiers.

But seeing Xia Yu still in a daze, they could only sigh in pity. They knew this incident had a huge impact on a child. Perhaps they’d need to arrange for a psychologist later to help her cope.

After ten minutes, two cars finally caught up. Their speed seemed almost supernatural…

Indeed, the owners of these cars were Jiang Bin and Xia Hong.

Earlier, after the kidnappers left, they followed based on the car wheel prints. Once they learned that both kidnappers were dead, they sped to the scene.

As expected, when the car stopped, Wang Wenjuan couldn’t help but jump out and hug the small Xia Yu tightly: “Little Yu, are you okay? It’s Mom’s fault. I shouldn’t have left you to go shopping.”

Seeing her mother so self-blaming, Xia Yu felt terrible inside. So she snapped out of her dazed state and wiped away her mother’s tears with her tiny hand.

In reality, Xia Yu understood clearly—if she hadn’t run around, she wouldn’t have been caught. Therefore, she didn’t want her mother blaming herself.

Everyone watched this touching scene of motherly love in silence.

Until Xia Yu separated from her mother, Jiang Bin handed her a sealed bottle of mineral water: “Little Yu, take this to wash your face. Otherwise, it might look pretty rough.”

Next to him, Xia Hong felt something was off, but once he realized that they viewed Xia Yu as a girl, he no longer found it strange.

Unbeknownst to him, he was actually the clown in this scenario.

Hearing Jiang Bin’s words, Wang Wenjuan noticed bl**d stains on Xia Yu’s face and clothes. As Xia Yu had no injuries, the bl**d must belong to the kidnappers.

Wang Wenjuan thankfully accepted Jiang Bin’s offer and started washing Xia Yu’s face with the water, while her clothes would need to be changed later.

Jiang Bin also got his ten hand-carry suitcases back in his car, thanks to the assistance of two Chinese soldiers. This incident seemed to finally be coming to a close.

Plucky Jiang Kekai, despite her father repeatedly warning her not to leave the car for fear of anything happening, felt a little reluctant seeing Xia Yu reunited with her family.

After hesitating, she finally ignored her father’s advice and stepped out of the luxury car to give Xia Yu one last, heartfelt embrace: “Little Yu, let’s meet again.”

Jiang Kekai certainly didn’t want to regret anything, so she wanted to do and say everything she possibly could.

Unexpectedly, both sets of parents were startled by the emotional moment. However, they concluded that their kids had formed a strong bond while being kidnapped, which explained their newfound closeness.

To Jiang Bin, if Xia Yu were still a boy, he’d definitely not allow anyone to take advantage of his daughter. However, since Xia Yu was now a girl, he had no objections. It was fine if girls gave each other hugs.

Even though Jiang Kekai had disobeyed him again by running over, he just couldn’t bring himself to be angry at her.

Likewise, Xia Yu’s parents didn’t object either, knowing Xia Yu remained their son. Giving the impression that everyone was doing well made it feel worthwhile.

Before long, the embraces ended, and each pair went home with their respective parents.

The two soldiers had to continue guarding until specialized personnel arrived. Thus, they couldn’t leave yet.

Inside the car, watching Xia Yu revert back to her seemingly dazed state, her mother Wang Wenjuan felt a deep pain. Xia Yu already suffered from severe depression, and this ordeal might worsen her condition.

After some thought, Wang Wenjuan softly suggested to Xia Yu: “Little Yu, I think you’re in a rather tough state. Should we find a psychologist?”

Xia Yu, understandingly, shook her head in refusal. Why was she being so sensible? She knew seeing a psychologist cost money, and she didn’t want her parents wasting it. Besides, asking for help wasn’t exactly glamorous.

Thus, Wang Wenjuan had nothing else to do but respect Xia Yu’s wishes. With her current state, forcing her wasn’t a good idea.

On the way home, Xia Yu finally realized how far they had been taken. They had left early in the morning but didn’t return until dusk, making the journey seem endless.

Back at home, Xia Le and Xia Ling were still enjoying their Sunday break. Seeing Xia Yu return, Xia Ling felt overjoyed, almost diving on top of her, silently thinking how great it was that Xia Yu came back safe.

On the other hand, Xia Le felt too embarrassed to come downstairs. He didn’t know how to face Xia Yu. If he hadn’t indulged in playtime earlier, Xia Yu might not have encountered such danger.

Alas, what happened couldn’t be undone.
