Chapter 90

Chapter 90: Force-Fed

Well, since there seems to be no objections from either side’s parents, what’s the point of me worrying? Therefore, Wang Wenjuan let go of Xia Yu’s arm and awkwardly went back to her seat with a chuckle.

As a result, Xia Yu was pulled back to her seat by Jiang Kekai. Yet, Xia Yu couldn’t understand why this young lady Jiang wanted to keep her around and even peel shrimp for her? She wasn’t anything special to Jiang Kekai, right?

Jiang Kekai had no idea what Xia Yu was thinking as she resumed peeling shrimp after Xia Yu sat down again. She wanted to continue feeding her.

But this time, Xia Yu didn’t obediently open her mouth when Jiang Kekai tried to feed her again. Xia Yu overheard her mother saying earlier that it would be embarrassing for her to have a young lady peel shrimp for her. She was just an ordinary kid, wasn’t she? What right did she have to enjoy such treatment?

Seeing Xia Yu not opening her mouth as usual, Jiang Kekai started to get annoyed. But wasting food was out of the question, so she tried to force the shrimp into Xia Yu’s mouth.

The parents watching from the sidelines were at a loss for words.

Despite Xia Yu not willingly eating the shrimp, Jiang Kekai blamed Wang Wenjuan instead of her, arguing that if it weren’t for Wang Wenjuan chatting with Xia Yu, she might still have been happily waiting to be fed.

Seemingly sensing Wang Wenjuan’s gaze on her, Jiang Kekai glared back fiercely, with more than a hint of displeasure that Xia Yu wouldn’t eat her food. That glare, it was truly terrifying.

Even though Wang Wenjuan was an adult, she was still shaken by Jiang Kekai’s fierce look. “Big Sister” indeed lived up to her reputation; she was no joke.

Knowing Xia Yu wouldn’t eat any more, Jiang Kekai stopped forcing the issue and cleaned her greasy fingers with a napkin before picking up her chopsticks to eat.

Perhaps it was because of Jiang Kekai’s forceful behavior, but during dinner, Xia Yu kept glancing at Jiang Kekai or giving her furtive looks.

Yes, Jiang Kekai’s actions definitely caught Xia Yu’s attention. To put it nicely, Jiang Kekai had successfully captured Xia Yu’s gaze.

Since Xia Yu was sitting next to her, Jiang Kekai couldn’t help but notice whenever she peeked over. While secretly rejoicing in having Xia Yu’s attention, Jiang Kekai thought Xia Yu wanted her to feed her more.

So, Jiang Kekai served Xia Yu more meat…

The surrounding parents watching the exchange could only scratch their heads.

Fine, if you want to serve her more meat, but Xia Yu really showed face by finishing every bit of meat Jiang Kekai put in her bowl.

Naturally, this sparked Jiang Kekai’s curiosity even more, causing her to pile on more food, piece after piece, while Xia Yu quietly ate it all, not wanting to waste any food.

Seeing this, the most shocked of all was Xia Yu’s mother, Wang Wenjuan. She knew Xia Yu hadn’t eaten much since coming home from the hospital. How come her appetite suddenly improved so much now?

Of course, Wang Wenjuan wasn’t dumb. She figured there must be a reason behind Xia Yu’s sudden change, and Jiang Kekai was likely the main cause.

This made both sets of parents even more curious about what could have happened to Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai when they were kidnapped and what made them become so close. Jiang Kekai, who normally wouldn’t bother with others, actually engaged in friendly behavior towards Xia Yu.

However, when questioned later, neither of them elaborated because nothing earth-shattering occurred.

In the end, everyone enjoyed the meal to some degree, except for Xia Ling, the youngest daughter.

Why?

Because seeing Jiang Kekai interact with Xia Yu made Xia Ling really unhappy. She feared Jiang Kekai would steal her second brother away.

So, on the way home, Xia Ling was extra clingy to Xia Yu because she felt that with Jiang Kekai gone, her brother might come back.

Although Xia Yu didn’t say much during the dinner, her attentive family noticed she seemed more energized the moment they got home. They couldn’t figure out why, though.

Everyone returned to doing their own thing after the meal; thankfully, it was evening time, or the household work during the day would have been overwhelming.

The two elders went straight to bed, while the younger ones either stayed up watching TV or taking baths…

Naturally, Xia Yu had already bathed previously and could rest directly in her room.

As for where she would sleep, she still opted for Xia Ling’s room. Her parents couldn’t yet stomach the thought of letting her be alone, especially after such a recent traumatic experience like being kidnapped. If anything happened, it would be too late.

Initially, Xia Yu was supposed to return to school tomorrow. However, with this new development, Wang Wenjuan wasn’t sure if Xia Yu was mentally prepared to go back yet. If Xia Yu remained fearful, she would not force her.

With these worries in mind, Wang Wenjuan headed to Xia Ling’s room. Coincident timing, Xia Ling went to take a bath at that moment, leaving Xia Yu alone.

Gazing at Xia Yu, who was silently absorbed in her phone on Xia Ling’s bed, Wang Wenjuan approached and sat beside her, trying to inquire gently, “Little Yu, tomorrow is Monday. Do you feel like going back to school? If not, we can wait.”

It would be odd for a student to decline school, but Xia Yu, being very considerate, didn’t want to be a burden at home. So, after a moment, she nodded—a small yes.

After the kidnapping event, Xia Yu seemed greatly affected. Yet, something about tonight’s dinner felt like it had improved her mood back to normal.

Predictably, Xia Yu’s response matched Wang Wenjuan’s expectations, so she simply patted Xia Yu’s head gently, advised her to sleep early, and left, respecting Xia Yu’s choice.
