Chapter 55: The Eternal Audience
Inside the independent space.
“What gibberish are you spouting?”
Yao Can and company stared at Mo Tu with serious faces, having somewhat calmed down.
A Night Watcher must always stay cool-headed no matter what happens.
Now with a newly turned-rogue Sunlight Night Watcher, one must remain calm to consider the reasons behind it, even if the body of the Supernova Star Eclipses lies right in front of them.
Mo Tu chuckled lightly, clearly pleased with their state.
If he had a pig-brained teammate who didn’t think much, he would be truly stumped.
“Hey hey, as long as you’re willing to listen to me, I knew the Sunlight Night Watchers weren’t dimwits.”
Chi Hao closed his eyes and leaned against the nearby wall, looking indifferent.
“You get some time to explain, or else I’ll torch this place.”
Chi Hao’s Star was basically the kryptonite for most of the other Stars or Star Eclipses. Spaces like this, constructed by Star forces, were no match for his 【Cremation Star】 – he could burn them just as easy as setting fire to an entire city but much more manageable.
His delay in taking action came from respect towards Mo Tu.
Because Chi Hao felt that Mo Tu wasn’t the kind of guy to betray the Night Watchers.
Though his personality wasn’t great, he couldn’t be replaced.
“Heh.”
Mo Tu laughed lightly, feeling a weight ease off his chest.
The divination results were spot on!
If they got triggered and attacked, Mo Tu knew he wouldn’t stand a chance. Nor would he leave himself locked up in any cave heaven with these guys.
“I’ve already explained my reasoning. We need to find a perfect solution. In past cases where we dealt with Supernova Star Eclipses, each attempt left everyone with bad aftereffects, including your Star not being able to help at all. If you folks force-k*ll this Star Eclipses here, the consequences will be similarly dire.”
Yan Que said coolly, “This is currently the best solution; apart from forcibly killing us, we cannot subdue the Supernova Star Eclipses. Even among our level, there’s a high risk of failure. Let alone others.”
“Could it be that us Night Watchers haven’t found the right method?” Mo Tu smiled.
Wang Chao sheathed his light sword, having exited combat mode.
He glanced at Mo Tu and joined in the conversation.
“There might be a method, but we don’t know it yet. Otherwise, over the years, I wouldn’t have had to exterminate so many Star Eclipses myself.”
“Hmph,” Yao Can sneered.
“So you’re stopping us from forcefully eliminating them just so two little girls can resolve the Supernova Star Eclipses without lasting effects?”
“Exactly, you guessed right.” Mo Tu smiled slightly.
Yao Can narrowed his eyes.
“I recall that girl hasn’t mastered her Star yet and she’s still a novice. Why should I believe she can do it perfectly?”
“This is based on my own judgment. Unlike you, my Star is quite unique and carries much more information than others. Without my presence, this Star Eclipses situation could drag on until your forces are completely crushed.”
“So you’re trying to say how amazing you are?”
“No. I merely suggest using the time I’ve bought to allocate a bit to those two little ones. It may not work out, but at least it’s a new avenue worth exploring.”
Hearing this, Yao Can and his crew fell silent. Chi Hao snuffed out the flame in his hand and closed his eyes.
“Alright, you’ve convinced me. Give it a bit more time. If it doesn’t work, we’ll force-k*ll.”
Yan Que remained silent, effectively agreeing.
Wang Chao shrugged.
“If you’re so bold, go right ahead. Anyway, even if it fails, the main responsibility won’t land on my shoulders.”
Only Yao Can remained undecided.
As the leader of Shanghe City’s Night Watchers, his decision held the most significance.
If he insisted on the forceful extermination plan, the others would have no choice but to follow orders.
One opposing Mo Tu would not suffice.
At this moment, Mo Tu also stared at Yao Can, curious about his thoughts.
Yao Can sneered once again, gradually calming down as usual.
“If it fails, I’ll report your actions to headquarters and revoke your Sunlight Night Watcher role.”
The meaning was clear.
“Haha~ How generous of you.”
Mo Tu couldn’t help but laugh, completely easing up now.
Leave the rest to those two Lolis.
Don’t disappoint his gamble.
—
Outside.
The fire consuming the entire city dwindled away, leaving a lingering warmth.
Night Star and Night Lan watched the tear-streaked girl before them, feeling a strange empathy. The Puppet Master had ceased spreading Star Eclipses power and now slowly collected the remaining energy into the puppet.
With the Puppet Master’s lost memories coming back—a feat wrought by miracle—”Uhh… Night Star…”
Lianhua choked back her resentment, suppressing her tears.
She remembered she had died. Thrown into a trash heap, almost burnt. Her precious doll given by her mother faced destruction. This terrified her most.
Before she lost consciousness, her thoughts swirled around finding a doll, not revenge.
If only she could find the doll, everything would be fine.
Her wish finally came true.
Night Star returned the doll to her and pulled her out of her nightmares.
“Uhh… Uhh… I’m so scared…”
Lianhua recalled her first encounter with Night Star.
Him saying he enjoyed her puppet show was genuinely heartwarming.
She even thought he was an angel descending from the sky, adorable both in his smile and nature.
Looking back, sure enough, an angel in every sense.
Night Star smiled warmly and enveloped Lianhua in his arms, murmuring softly,
“Lianhua, welcome back~”
“Mmm…”
Soon, the Star Eclipses aura covering the entire city vanished completely.
Everyone regained consciousness, puzzled over what they had been doing and what had happened.
No aftereffects, no deaths.
Besides some chaos when citizens regained their senses, everything was fine.
It was automatic recovery orchestrated by the Star Eclipses itself, preventing those harmful energies from lingering in normal human bodies.
Because the Puppet Master had transformed back into Lianhua.
Night Star then released Lianhua, visibly relieved.
“Waking Lianhua up is such a relief.”
“Um… Night Star,” Lianhua hugged the doll tighter, looking somewhat anxious.
“I’m dead, aren’t I?”
“Mhm~”
Night Star pondered, then listened for her heartbeat with ear pressed against her chest under Lianhua’s surprised gaze.
“No heartbeat, looks like you’re truly gone.”
Lianhua blushed slightly.
“Uhh… What should we do then?”
“How are you feeling now? Any ill effects?”
“No, actually feel lighter…”
“Don’t worry too much then. As long as Lianhua can continue her puppet show, I’ll keep watching forever and never get bored.”
“Really?”
“Umm~ Be my eternal audience, Lianhua.”
