Chapter 23

Chapter 23: Apologize to Brother Yun Right Now!

Mu Jixue’s voice was so loud that it caught the attention of many passersby, who instantly recognized Yun Zhonghe’s identity. After all, he was the notorious young master of the famous Yun family in Cangzhou City, with his iconic golden hair known by all.

Then there was the adorable girl who shouted – a familiar celebrity in her own right, the pride of Cangzhou City, Mu Jixue! And next to her with the black twin ponytails had to be the legendary Lin family’s young lady, right?

People love to gossip, especially when these three distinctive individuals were together, sparking a brainstorming session among onlookers who concocted all sorts of wild scenarios.

But they all boiled down to the same theme: the rogue Yun Zhonghe scheming against the Lin sisters!

“This young master of the Yun family has really lost it, trying to lay hands on even the direct disciple of the Xuantian Sect? Does he have a death wish?”

“Ah, so that’s why he suddenly defended the Lin young lady at the Immortal Alliance yesterday! Seems like he couldn’t hold back for even a day.”

“See? It’s hard to change a leopard’s spots; a rogue is a rogue.”

Rumblings and whispers.

Amidst all this, Tao Jiu’er, who had been quietly observing from behind Yun Zhonghe, heard the gossip and shot a fierce glare at the culprits.

Don’t be fooled by her role as Yun Zhonghe’s maid; she was secretly an elite shadow guard with a mid-stage Foundation Establishment cultivation level.

That piercing stare terrified the gossipmongers, causing them to scurry away in panic.

Now only Yun Zhonghe, Lin Zhongyu, and Mu Jixue remained on the scene.

“Xue’er, what on earth are you babbling about?”

Lin Zhongyu was still recovering from Mu Jixue’s outrageous comments, a wave of displeasure washing over her. She had heard the nonsense from the crowd, who were bashing Yun Zhonghe for no reason. It was clear he hadn’t done anything wrong; it was the city folks who twisted the facts!

She finally understood why Yun Zhonghe had such a bad reputation. He was in the clear; the problem lay with its people!

Suddenly, Lin Zhongyu felt a kinship with Yun Zhonghe, both being victims of this judgmental city. Now, she was seriously annoyed with the “root of the trouble,” Mu Jixue.

Mu Jixue felt a twinge of guilt, noticing the disapproving look on her childhood friend’s face, realizing she inadvertently spilled her thoughts.

Lin Zhongyu was upset: “Xue’er, you should apologize to Brother Yun!”

Mu Jixue bit her lip. She was only worried about Xiao Yu’s feelings! Her pride wouldn’t let her submit to Yun Zhonghe, so she threw caution to the wind: “Why should I apologize to him?! Xiao Yu, you’re completely fooled by him! He just wants to take advantage of your innocence and kindness to earn your trust and then—who knows what nefarious plans he has when he shows his true colors!”

“Enough with the insults towards Brother Yun!” Lin Zhongyu snapped, startling Mu Jixue into silence.

Mu Jixue had never seen Lin Zhongyu this furious before.

Lin Zhongyu felt hurt. She had been trying to introduce her friend to a decent guy, only for Mu Jixue to throw shade at him time and again.

What’s her deal? Did Yun Zhonghe ever do anything to her? Just because of her feelings, she was slandering him with no proof?

Did Mu Jixue even care about her, Lin Zhongyu?

Meanwhile, Yun Zhonghe stood there looking utterly bewildered.

Wait, Huang Aotian and the female lead were bickering over him, the golden-haired one?!

And it looked like things were about to get explosive! What in the world? They were meant to be together, not fighting!

“Alright, calm down, both of you! Please don’t argue over me! It’s far more important that you two get along.”

“Uh… actually…”

“Brother Yun, don’t say anything! This is a matter between us sisters!”

Lin Zhongyu’s momentum surged, cutting off Yun Zhonghe before he had a chance to speak.

This strong yet gentle female lead surprisingly had a fearsome side—when she got angry, it was terrifying!

Yun Zhonghe wanted to argue that Mu Jixue’s words didn’t bother him that much.

True, she was blunt, but she had a point. If he hadn’t awakened his past life memories, he would’ve truly been a bad seed in Cangzhou, causing a bit of mischief but nothing too serious. However, once he entered the sect, it would be chaos!

And yeah, he had ulterior motives for getting close to Lin Zhongyu.

But he definitely didn’t want these two good friends squabbling—this was the last thing he wanted! In fact, he was terrified they might break apart, making him the villain in Huang Aotian’s eyes!

Come on, ladies, calm down! Huang Aotian could scream all she wanted; he was her good buddy and could handle it—what mattered was that you two had a happy ending! He had no connection to any of this!

However… enraged Lin Zhongyu was simply uncontainable.

This situation reminded Yun Zhonghe of a scene from the original game: Lin Zhongyu had a fallout with Mu Jixue and furiously walked away, only to be intercepted by a towering BOSS who got annihilated by the angry Lin Zhongyu.

Even a BOSS that could wipe the floor with players like Huang Aotian had been one-shotted by her fury!

So, it’s not that Yun Zhonghe didn’t want to intervene; he instinctively sensed danger.

He shot a desperate glance at Tao Jiu’er behind him, but she wore a curious, popcorn-eating expression, completely unfazed by the drama.

Curse this…

“Xiao Yu…” At this moment, Mu Jixue felt guilty. She realized she’d overstepped and tried to soften her tone.

But Lin Zhongyu was too fired up; even her imposing aura felt like a weight on Mu Jixue, making her feel suffocated.

“Xue’er, apologize!”

Mu Jixue gritted her teeth. Normally, she would have yielded by now, especially if Lin Zhongyu was angry.

But in front of the golden-haired dude, she couldn’t swallow her pride.

She clenched her fists, defiantly turning her head away: “I won’t!”

She sounded like a petulant child throwing a tantrum.

This only fueled Lin Zhongyu’s anger, her voice growing serious: “Apologize to me right now!”

“Ugh…” Mu Jixue felt heartbroken, tears threatening to spill.

“You silly Xiao Yu, I… I won’t talk to you anymore!”

With a stomp of her foot, she turned on her heel and ran off.

Yun Zhonghe: “…”

Holy cow! Did this really escalate to a breakup? Isn’t it game over for me now?!

Huang Aotian’s emotions were so fragile, just a few words from his childhood friend had her weeping?

Simultaneously, the Book of Prophecy in his Sea of Consciousness flashed a warning:

【Danger】

Ah, crystal clear message. Too easy to understand.

Yun Zhonghe promptly felt a migraine forming.
