Chapter 26: Let Me Give You A Little Blow
“Come in,” said Lin Tian.
Gan Yan Yu carefully slipped on some slippers and walked into the room.
She took a glance around the spotless house and felt a little pride tingle her heart.
I wonder if Lin Tian was startled when he came back last night.
She took out her cello and made her way to the living room.
“Can I sit here?”
Gan Yan Yu pointed at the sofa and asked.
“What?” Lin Tian looked confusedly at Gan Yan Yu.
“Oh no!” The young woman immediately panicked, turned around, and pointed at the sofa with an exaggerated act. “Okay, sofa, I’m going to sit down now!!”
She plopped herself down hard onto the sofa.
The ample cushion bounced her buttocks, making even the soft sofa tremble thrice.
Then she turned her head, her face slightly flushed, and stared seriously at Lin Tian.
Her stern look seemed to say,
See that? I didn’t even ask you; I just sat down!
Isn’t it awesome?!
Lin Tian was left speechless by her antics.
Was Gan Yan Yu being standoffish? She woke him up at seven this morning.
Was she not being standoffish? She was open with him yesterday, but today she still asks before sitting on his sofa.
This is probably how Gan Yan Yu is with everyone: she never forgets her manners no matter what, a true embodiment of upbringing.
Fine.
Seeing as Gan Yan Yu sees him as a guest, Lin Tian also treated her as such:
“Want something to drink?”
“Thanks.”
“I’m asking whether you want to drink anything.”
“Yes!”
Gan Yan Yu’s eyes were determined, and she spoke loudly once more.
Lin Tian went to get some water.
Gan Yan Yu looked at the young man nervously.
Coming back to Lin Tian’s place again felt pretty magical to her.
Last time, they were total strangers.
But since yesterday, they had officially become… partners?
This change in relationship felt both disorienting and secretly delightful.
And yet, whenever Gan Yan Yu did something that didn’t fit a “partner” vibe, she suddenly became super nervous, fearing Lin Tian saw her as unimportant.
Extracting a big bottle of Yezheng from the fridge, Lin Tian poured some cool water into a glass.
In summer, serving cold water to guests is the highest form of hospitality.
Gan Yan Yu picked up her glass and gently sipped.
Lin Tian couldn’t help but give her a second look.
Today’s Gan Yan Yu gave him quite a surprise.
She wore a green dress with a side ponytail today. Last time, she looked cool and beautiful, but today, she looked refined and gentle. Her aura really had the makings of a musician.
“Lin Tian, when did you realize I wanted to k*ll myself?”
Drinking water, Gan Yan Yu suddenly recalled that night where she had gotten drunk at Lin Tian’s place.
Although she had sensed then that he might have purposely kept her there because of his kindness,
She wasn’t sure, because they got along so well.
Until the other night, when Lin Tian’s unexpected words made her realize how she was being toyed with the whole time!
Finally, she could ask about it. She was so curious!
“Um…”
Lin Tian picked up his water bottle and sat on the edge of the sofa, mulling over his answer.
“Around the time you mentioned looking for a cat, right?”
“Then you didn’t believe me even one bit?”
Gan Yan Yu’s eyes widened.
Since the whole cat thing, it surely wasn’t like he saw through her the moment they met!
“Well, it started with a suspicion. I was completely sure only when you leaned in and asked, ‘What do you want to do’.”
“Gah!”
Gan Yan Yu hurriedly interrupted Lin Tian, leaped onto him, and covered his mouth with her hand.
“What are you doing?”
Startled, Lin Tian tried to speak; her fingers ended up going into his mouth.
And then…
she bit Lin Tian’s little finger.
“Ouch!”
She quickly retracted her hand.
A clear tooth mark was left on her thumb.
“Sorry!”
Lin Tian leaned in anxiously, examining the red mark, then grabbed Gan Yan Yu’s hand.
“I’ll blow on it!”
“Hmm… Hmm…”
Lin Tian’s breath enveloped Gan Yan Yu’s thumb.
“It’s very hot…”
Gan Yan Yu couldn’t help but whisper softly.
“Just wait.”
Lin Tian grabbed another bottle of Yezheng nearby.
“Gulp—”
He gulped down a big mouthful of icy water.
“Hmm… Hmm…”
He continued blowing.
It was a bit cooler now.
“Guhh…”
Gan Yan Yu lowered her head; her face was getting redder.
As soon as Lin Tian mentioned what happened that day, she panicked.
Every time she thought about it, it was just so embarrassing.
She actually thought Lin Tian’s sniffing her clothes meant he wanted to—do things with her.
Sure enough, s*icide has many downsides. Never again will she consider it lightly.
“Does it feel any better now?”
Lin Tian cradling her hand, asked.
“Mm-hm.”
Gan Yan Yu made a soft, content noise.
Only now did Lin Tian realize that his action had a certain charm he hadn’t anticipated.
He treated her subconsciously like a child.
Focus on business!
Lin Tian stood up and went into the room to fetch the written sheet music.
Returning to the living room, he placed the sheets on the table.
“This piece I wrote yesterday. Take a look.”
“Wow! You actually wrote it.”
Gan Yan Yu’s pupils twitched as she took the sheet music.
Rationally speaking, she trusted Lin Tian because she believed they could work together towards their desired future.
But she never really believed he could compose music.
After all, even though she had been practicing piano since childhood, her skills in music creation were merely halfway competent.
When Lin Tian actually presented Gan Yan Yu with a complete sheet of music, it was still quite a shock to her.
The title of the piece was…
“The Love Ode?”
Gan Yan Yu read out loud.
“Yup.” Lin Tian explained, “It’s a classical piece composed in the Romantic style.”
“The Love Ode,” one of the famous compositions by the renowned British musician Elgar, created in 1888.
This song was also the piece played by the fallen genius cellist Jacqueline, whose performance made her name known worldwide.
At age 20, standing in a concert hall, one performance of the “Love Ode” made everyone remember her forever.
After Jacqueline’s d*ath,
In every major performance, musicians would perform “The Love Ode” and dedicate a moment of reflection to her.
What kind of beautiful music is this?
Why does it make people cry for Jacqueline?
All these answers lie within the music itself.
“Go ahead, try it on your cello,” Lin Tian said.
