Chapter 309

### Chapter 310: Letting Go

Temporarily setting aside the awkward and fluttery emotions from before, Mu Jixue glanced around. The wedding room had returned to its pristine and serene state; the stifling and eerie atmosphere seemed to have melted away with the night.

Just like when one’s heart finally finds clarity after letting go of attachments, long-lost calm had finally arrived.

Yun Zhonghe couldn’t help but agree: “Yeah, maybe…”

He slowly walked over to the window, gently pushing open the tightly closed window that had been sealed shut for ages. With a creak, the window opened, allowing fresh air to flood into the room, bringing a cool breeze.

But outside was just blank, nothing in sight. It was a sea of white—nothingness.

But amidst this emptiness, there were faint, indistinct sounds, now deep, now urgent.

“Big sister… don’t…”

“Calm down…”

Yun Zhonghe and Mu Jixue exchanged glances. They both recognized the voice as Su Xinghe’s desperate call. But they couldn’t make out the details and they didn’t know what was happening.

But if they could hear outside, did that mean they could leave?

Just then, everything began to subtly change in the wedding room, as if a beautiful dream was about to end, all the details dissipating little by little.

The red silk, the happy candles, the Plum Green Brew—that had once made up the joyful atmosphere of the room—now rippled like waves on a lake, eventually revealing the illusion’s own emptiness and ruin.

The wedding room had reverted to its original, empty, and cold state. All the celebrations and noise were gone.

In this haze and silence, a figure emerged, gradually becoming more visible, walking from the corner towards Yun Zhonghe and Mu Jixue.

She had a calm expression and sorrowful eyes.

Liu Yan!

Her ghost-like form slowly materialized in the illusory room.

Mu Jixue immediately tensed up, moving instinctively to protect Yun Zhonghe. Her decisive action left a deep impression on him.

“That’s it… You’re never truly ours… What am I even hoping for?” Liu Yan’s voice held self-mockery. She lowered her head and murmured, looking slightly lost. “My Dong Lang won’t come back.”

Seeing her pitiful state made Mu Jixue’s heart ache. She knew this was the feeling Dong Xuanxu had towards Liu Yan.

She snapped out of it, gazing at the collapsing illusion. Suddenly, she understood something. “It wasn’t like that… He risked his life too. Though he didn’t succeed, he really… he was absolutely trying to protect you!”

“But you’re not Dong Lang, how do you know?”

Mu Jixue’s tone remained unchanged as she steadily focused on Liu Yan’s position. It was almost as if she was channeling Dong Xuanxu’s unspoken sentiment: “You’re not Dong Lang. But I can assure you, he definitely sacrificed himself for you.”

Hearing this, Liu Yan’s dull eyes flickered briefly with light.

“So… Dong Lang also risked his life for me…”

Liu Yan’s voice choked up as she struggled to force a sad smile, tears welling up in her eyes. “Good…”

Finally, Liu Yan let go of her attachment. She softly raised her hand, pointing at the somewhat worn-out main door of the wedding room. The originally blank and vague world outside seemed to be gently pushed aside, revealing a clear exit—a way to the real world.

“That’s the exit, the path to reality,” she whispered apologetically.

Before her words had fully died down, her form began to blur, fading away completely, leaving only an ephemeral shadow in the unreal space.

Liu Yan’s attachment dissipated, leaving Mu Jixue looking at the fading figure. Her usually bright purple eyes seemed to scatter momentarily.

After a while, she calmed down, her rationality returning. At this moment, the big red wedding outfits vanished, replaced by their normal attire.

Yun Zhonghe’s Snow Cloud Sword reappeared in his hand.

“Master, why have you been disappearing again?” the Snow Cloud Sword chimed.

She was almost getting used to it; Yun Zhonghe always played these games of disappearance.

Is this some new kind of play? Like the kind where you leave someone hanging?

Yun Zhonghe thought bitterly.

“I’ll explain later. This time, we can really leave.”

Mu Jixue muttered quietly, “I hope they find happiness in the next life.”

Taking a deep breath, she turned to look at the exit leading back to reality.

Everything outside could now be perceived by their heightened senses.

This exit was right at the bl**d pool’s center, offering them a peek into the outside world.

Yet…

Opening the exit didn’t bring the expected joy.

Instead, Mu Jixue and Yun Zhonghe’s relaxed expressions tightened again as unease washed over them.

What’s going on outside?

Why is the ominous atmosphere so thick? It feels like an unprecedented disaster is descending, shrouding everything in gloom!

Black mist was even seeping through the exit.

This ominous aura made Mu Jixue feel like her bl**d was freezing solid.

“What’s happening? Did it not end?”

Mu Jixue’s face shifted, and Yun Zhonghe had already sensed the source of the problem.

“Jixue, look!”

Pointing upward, Yun Zhonghe revealed a pale figure hovering in the sky.

Mu Jixue followed his finger and her eyes widened in shock.

Hovering in the air was a young girl with silver hair, her eyes dead, completely devoid of emotion. Only cold vacancy remained.

She looked familiar yet strange, a lot like Su Xiaoxiao, but different in an unsettling way.

“Could this be… Xiaoxiao?” Mu Jixue hesitated, unsure.

Indeed, a trace of Su Xiaoxiao’s presence mixed with the ominous aura, indicating it was Su Xiaoxiao, though not the one they knew.

Her sudden transformation was baffling. Once poised and beautiful, now her stature had shrunk, her chest noticeably flatter. Her lifeless silver hair danced wildly in the wind, as chaotic as trampled grass.

Yet, she was totally indifferent, her hollow eyes conveying endless coldness and destruction.

Mu Jixue was utterly bewildered. Only Yun Zhonghe, after spotting her, paled dramatically, lips trembling.

“Disaster Empress…” Yun Zhonghe’s voice trembled and sank deeply.

He recognized her because she was identical to the game illustration, trapped within Su Xiaoxiao’s body.

No… it’s not just another personality—it’s the residual power of a previous incarnation residing in Su Xiaoxiao’s body!

The empress of disasters, who once shook the entire continent, was awakening prematurely within her!

But why now?!

The awakening of the Disaster Empress was meant to be the climax of Su Xiaoxiao’s storyline.
