Chapter 1: Modern Small World (2)

===============================

Regarding the shocking crimson text that appeared during their recent battle with the final boss, Kael’thas, Lady Rong Ji and Fu Yetian had quite the discussion.

They soon realized that not only they, but nearly everyone present had seen those astonishing words floating in the air.

Moreover, the text appeared differently depending on each person’s situation.

For instance, those who tried to flee during the fight saw a prompt stating, “The door cannot be opened” after being blocked by the palace entrance. If someone hadn’t touched the door, they wouldn’t see that line at all.

And when Lady Rong Ji personally dealt the final blow to Kael’thas, the text explaining the key—visible only to her before she picked it up and transformed it into a katana—was exclusive to her as well.

To keep their time wandering through the tunnel from feeling too dull, Fu Yetian initiated the conversation, making a guess.

“Clearly, this is a phenomenon we cannot comprehend. I mean, who besides a divine being can present orderly words right before our eyes?”

Lady Rong Ji sighed. “Yeah, the gods know everything. Without divine assistance, how could we ever keep track of the final boss’s real-time status?”

Fu Yetian’s expression was filled with awe. “This indicates that the gods are on our side.”

For once, Lady Rong Ji didn’t smile; she gazed silently at the side of Fu Yetian’s face, momentarily falling quiet.

She had always looked down on Fu Yetian, viewing him as a traitor of the Heavenly Sword Sect whose character was far from trustworthy. Their limited interactions kept her opinion of him relatively unchanged.

Sure, after the battle with the d*ath Knight, her perception of him had slightly shifted, but she still harbored some worries, fearing this guy might suddenly turn on her when they claimed the final rewards in the maze.

But maybe those worries were a tad premature?

As Fu Yetian and she emerged from the tunnel side by side, a brilliant light enveloped them, and any lingering thoughts were swiftly cast aside.

What they beheld before them was utterly breathtaking.

Towering, slender buildings stretched across their field of vision, while bizarre large beetles scuttled along the ground in the distance. Occasionally, booming sounds erupted in the air as small, round-headed, thin-tailed creatures circled above, seemingly shocked by this group of strangers emerging from the underground.

[Ding! Level 70 Mission: Capture Ocean City! Deadline: 48 hours. Failure to accomplish the objective within the time limit will be regarded as a failure to clear the level.]

A row of red text appeared synchronously in the views of Fu Yetian and Lady Rong Ji.

Fu Yetian: “……”

Lady Rong Ji: “……”

The meaning was clear: they were to capture a city.

But as they regarded the endless array of skyscrapers and various buildings around them, both of them went dumbfounded.

Such a massive city? They had never seen anything like it in their entire lives.

Capture it? With just 3,000 members of the Ji Shen and Demon Race? If the city had walls, then even if they threw all 3,000 soldiers at it, they could perhaps only defend a single edge!

Is this mission meant to be a cruel joke?

Yet, their seasoned guardians quickly regained their composure, and their spirits barely shook before returning to normal.

The tunnel’s exit opened up into a lakeside park right in the city center.

As soldiers poured out of the tunnel like sardines, tourists enjoying the park began noticing this bizarrely dressed and styled group.

“Are they shooting a movie?”

“Who knows? I don’t see any film crew around.”

“Strange… it must be cosplay. Look at all the different races: half-orcs, humans, elves… wait, what’s with that elf? Is she sporting horns? Maybe it’s a new character design from a game!”

As people chatted away, many raised their phones to capture the scene of soldiers forming up.

Just as Prince Eric popped out of the ground, he quickly bumped into Fu Yetian and Lady Rong Ji.

“Let’s go on a killing spree! Once we wipe them out, the city will be ours!”

Having just come from the underground labyrinth to such an outrageous place, Prince Eric’s first reaction was that this was definitely not part of the Asking Dao Continent but undoubtedly a Small Cave Heaven.

To the Demon Race, Small Cave Heavens were always places of conquest.

The Empire had several of them locked up as prisons for felons.

No one could escape except for the prison wardens.

Thus, to Eric, all creatures within the Small Cave Heaven were subservient, and he felt no qualms about slaughtering them, especially with a timed mission hanging over them.

Fu Yetian was also quite familiar with the concept of a Small Cave Heaven.

However, he had never seen such a densely populated and peculiar Small Cave Heaven.

So, instinctively, he objected to Eric’s proposal.

“I think we shouldn’t provoke them just yet. Let’s not rush until we understand the local situation.”

But Lady Rong Ji sided with Eric.

“They seem to be performing some strange ritual. Fu, haven’t you noticed that nearly everyone holds a weird object?”

Fu Yetian raised a hand, causing a few girls to gasp as they pointed excitedly at the phone furiously snapping away in his palm.

“A mirror? No, this is some mysterious device that captures appearances!”

Fu Yetian was puzzled as he saw his own reflection on the phone screen.

As Lady Rong Ji approached, adorned with a charming smile, she leaned down to see a certain otaku crouched by the ground, snapping selfies.

“Can I see that?”

The otaku nodded eagerly. “Of course! Absolutely!”

Upon seeing how stunning she looked with all the filters, Lady Rong Ji felt a flicker of affection for this world.

“Give me that thing!”

The otaku hesitated, thinking, “Is she mad? Oh no… I’m glad I just uploaded those photos online. If I lose the ones on my phone, it’s whatever!”

“Uh, I swear I won’t do it again… I’ll delete the photos… right now!”

The otaku was practically begging.

With her quick wit, Lady Rong Ji realized this device wasn’t as bizarre as she first thought. It could record appearances!

“Teach me how to use this thing!”

The otaku beamed. “Sure thing, no problem!”

As all 3,000 soldiers crawled out of the tunnel, the crowd watching couldn’t contain themselves.

“Wow, check out their cosplay—an entire lineup of elves! These guys are super cool and super pretty!”

“The half-human, half-demon headgear looks so realistic; I really want to touch it!”

“This must be some promotional stunt for an upcoming fantasy movie—seriously, talk about high-budget!”

The soldiers, initially thinking their imposing formation would frighten these people, were left scratching their heads. Did they really not fear d*ath?
