Chapter 2: Fierce Battle (1)

==============================

Falling into an abyss deep enough to make one question where the heck the bottom is—it’s a feeling that’s hard to put into words, let alone wrap your mind around.

With hearts full of fear but just a hint of hope, two people zoomed through thick clouds, one after the other.

What had been solid clifftops suddenly transformed into an incomprehensible void, like they had just tumbled out of a cave on Phoenix Mountain. Now, despite the lousy situation, the male character inexplicably felt a bit better—at least he wasn’t the only one falling into the abyss.

Turns out, entering or leaving this world always involves a spectacular nosedive. Only this time, it felt like the fall was stretching longer than usual.

“BANG BANG!”

Those were the last two sounds the male character heard before blacking out.

After who knows how long, he opened his eyes only to discover that his head was resting on something fluffy.

Luo Ying’s concerned face hovered right above him. “How are you feeling?”

He then realized that what he was using as a pillow was actually Luo Ying’s legs.

They had shared a ridiculous experience in the Animal World, having mooched around as small animals without a clue, but now, back in human form and this close? The male character felt his cheeks heat up and quickly sat up. “I’m fine!”

Luo Ying didn’t seem fazed at all.

Perhaps it was the distant sound of explosions outside the cave that kept them from focusing on their little moment. They both turned their heads toward the cave’s entrance, their faces growing serious.

“Let’s go check on Fatty and the others!”

“Right!”

They rushed out of the cave, only to be halted in their tracks, gaping in disbelief at the scene before them.

The yellow-tinged sky was filled with swarms of people sporting insect wings, reminiscent of a zillion mosquitoes taking over the sky. The sound of their wings buzzing echoed ominously, like a chaotic symphony of annoyance.

Below them, a massive horde of self-exploding beasts, spilling magma from their skin, surged forward. Clearly, they were all heading toward the Main Peak. It looked like they were gearing up for one last big assault.

Before they could collect themselves, a team of insect-like humans spotted them.

The Fallen Species erupted into excited screeches, like hornets whose nest had just been discovered, swooping down toward the male character and Luo Ying.

Nothing good comes from those hornets—better get moving!

“Run! Let’s regroup with Fatty and the others first!”

They immediately hopped on their flying swords and zipped toward the peak of Phoenix Mountain.

Those Fallen Species swarmed after them like flies chasing after a fresh pile of dung, even shouting with glee.

“Grab them!”

“Wahaha! Haven’t seen such high-quality women in ages! Everyone get out of my way, she’s MINE!”

“Over my dead body! I saw her first, you bunch of morons!”

The male character felt a strong urge to turn around and put up a fight, but who knew what had happened to Fatty and White Peach? Anxious as they were, there was no time to waste on a scuffle with these fools.

They reached the mountaintop in no time.

What a bummer—while their makeshift hut was still standing, the two they were looking for had vanished.

Looking on the bright side, maybe they had sensed danger and found another hiding spot.

“If I were White Peach, I’d definitely leave a message for the others if I had to leave in a hurry. What if they come back and can’t find us? They’d be so lost!” Luo Ying remarked.

“Got it,” said the male character.

They stopped and resolutely turned back to face the horde of approaching Fallen Species.

With the Dark Light Sword in hand, beams of light shot forth like lasers, ripping through the masses of bugs, causing explosions that sent them into a frenzy.

Though his sword didn’t have the same flashy effect as Luo Ying’s, the male character’s skills had reached a considerable level from all his training. At least, he was sure he wouldn’t be on the losing end against these pesky wannabe bugs.

The Fallen Species didn’t care about fair play.

They attacked en masse, trying to swarm from all sides. If even one got a hold of you, that long proboscis could s*ck you dry in seconds, leaving you as feeble as a freshly amputated limb.

At one point, the male character fought five of them at once, clashing sword against claws with loud clinks and clanks.

And then there was Luo Ying, the top fighter among the inner circle, scaring off anyone who dared stand in her way, including the Great King of the Split Land. There was no way she was going to be intimidated by these so-called Fallen Species.

“Dark Light Cherry Blossom Slash!”

With a flurry of pink cherry blossom petals swirling around, her sword beams darted through the enemies like shooting stars.

Though reinforced in body, these Fallen Species, despite being many times stronger than regular humans, were not invincible.

Every thrust of Luo Ying’s sword was aimed at their vulnerable throats, and surprisingly, even Fallen Species had weak spots.

So when that pink silhouette danced among the enemies, the ground quickly filled up with their pristine corpses, each sporting a neat little hole in their throats.

Realizing the odds were not in their favor, the remaining few Fallen Species scattered like roaches when the lights came on.

They had just wanted a tasty snack but found themselves stuck with a tougher bunch than they ever bargained for—one wrong turn, and poof! It was curtains for them.

“Hold your horses, let’s assess the situation first before making any rash decisions.”

The male character stopped Luo Ying, who was eager to chase down the fleeing enemies. “What if we attract other teams? That would be a disaster!”

With a pout, Luo Ying reluctantly sheathed her Dark Light Sword.

Squatting beside the fallen Fallen Species, they examined the bizarre creatures before them. It was their first encounter with something so unusual—ninety percent of their appearance was human, except their mouths morphed into nasty proboscises and their backs sprouted thin, insect-like wings. Their main weapons? Sharp claws made from their very own fingernails.

No demonic energy, not human—where on earth did they spring from?

“Could these gross guys be from a place similar to the Animal World?” Luo Ying pondered.

“Maybe,” the male character replied, glancing at the swarming Fallen Species that surrounded the Main Peak, while self-exploding beasts kept charging up with suicidal determination.

The Main Peak was in grave danger.

“What do we do? We need to help them!” Luo Ying exclaimed, her heart racing.

Ever since the self-exploding beasts had shown up, they were hell-bent on annihilating the whole Small Thousand World.

In this situation, the Main Peak was the last stronghold blocking their path, holding immense significance for both sides.

With that thought, the male character nodded decisively. “Let’s head to the Main Peak.”
